organissimo wins two WYCE Jammie Awards
DTMX replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
Congrats - couldn't have happened to a better bunch of guys. Now about that entourage thing... -
Was volunteered to work 6AM to 6PM Sunday so I couldn't stay up late. If my rusty VCR did its job, I can watch it during the Superbowl. I gotta go see Prince the next time he comes to ATL. The last time here he played Symphony Hall, a place where the funk is usually thrown down by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Shoulda gone. When I flew up to Minneapolis to see Ornette, I made sure that I was looking out of the window during the descent/ascent to see if I saw any giant purple houses or swimming pools shaped like a 'gluck' or whatever that symbol was. Didn't see any though...

What would you do if you had to sell your music collection?
DTMX replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Got it all backed up on a 300G drive (soon to get a 1TB drive). If I smell smoke, I grab that drive and I'm out the door. May not have the liner notes and artwork, but at least I've got the music. And yes, the 300G is backed on two smaller drives stored offsite so if I come home to smoldering trash heap of a house I've still got everything saved (back it up every two weeks). Fire, tornados, and yard sales to fend off potential bankruptcy - I laugh in your general direction! /famous last words. -
Verrrry dark video of the Frippster recording new Microsoft theme... Robert Fripp was on the Microsoft campus a few weeks back. He's the famous guitarist and composer, known for his founding role in the band King Crimson. Charles Torre (a big King Crimson fan) was invited over by Steve Ball to film the session. So, what was he doing on campus? Recording the various sounds we'll all hear in Windows Vista. This is a different kind of Channel 9 video. We needed to be quiet during the recording session so you can just follow along. It's a little audio preview of what Windows Vista will sound like. Sorry it's a little dark. It was a dark room! Hope you enjoy it. Fripp in Microsoft Studio

Was it the Prince of Wales?

It's not just me! That has to be the trippiest show I have ever seen in my life! I swear, the first time I saw it played at the store, I thought it was aimed at acid users, and aimed quite well! That's why PBS has it scheduled for 4:20 in the afternoon. Dude, come over to my house after school. We'll get fucked up and watch the Tubbies!

I was on my first turbo-prop flight - short jump from ATL to Lexington KY. Winds were rocking the plane all over during the descent. Right as we were about to touch down, I could see that we were actually coming in at an angle. I figured the wheels would make contact and the plane would somersault to the gate like a fiery pinwheel. But when the wheels hit, the plane jerked itself straight, we bounced a few times, and that was it. The attendant came on the intercom and said something like "We have arrived at our final destination. As soon as Captain Kangaroo finishes bouncing the plane up to the gate, we will begin deplaning procedures." Not the worst landing I've had, but one of the more interesting.

Belated happy birthdays to you!

The Braxton-singing-to-Konitz video is part of this one: Woodstock Jazz Fest (1981). Also includes a performance by Baikida Carroll ("Left Jab") with Julius Hemphill, Marilyn Crispell and maybe Ed Blackwell in the band.

Just last night I saw a television ad that showed some sharks swimming around as seen from below. Then the viewer breaks through to the surface and the perspective changes so that the viewer is looking down on an SUV driving out of the ocean and onto the beach. My first thought was "wait for it", and there it was: a line of text at the bottom of the screen saying something to the effect of "Vehicle will not function underwater".

What's going to be bad is when someone flubs a chord and they have to start over. That, and the 300-year long drum solo near the end.

Happy birthday!

Happy birthday. You are truely a moose among men.

Wow. And to think that the last thing I did today before leaving for the office was to download Derek Bailey's And recording (with Pat Thomas & Steve Noble) to my iPod. Guess I'll cue it up right about now...

I got a 12 hour 6PM - 6AM solo shift at the office (that I'm 7 hours into), plus a network server crash to deal with . And a t-shirt with a pi symbol on it. I'm all about pi.

A few years ago WIRE magazine did an article on Sam Rivers; there was a picture of Sam & Beatrice with the article. I'll look when I get home. That's the only picture I've seen of her. At both of the Sam Rivers concerts I've attended he mentioned his wife (and 50+ years of marriage) - always got a big round of applause. I must have 10 versions of Beatrice - put that song on an album and I'll buy it, unheard.

My thoughts exactly. RIP.

Four Seasons, the Bob Belden project
DTMX replied to jazzbo's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I listened to a few of the movements and I was lovin' it. You can hear the Four Seasons' themes, but it's very much a jam session with Belden on sax, Tim Hagans on trumpet, and Billy Kilson on drums (among others). Really good stuff. -
I know that this recording is made up of two Ornette bootlegs from 1968 performances in Rome and Milano, but this new release is being described as 'remastered'. Is the sound quality of this release any good? Thanking you in advance... The Love Revolution Complete 1968 Italian Tour (2 CD Set) Ornette Coleman Quartet: Ornette Coleman, David Izenzon, Charlie Haden, Ed Blackwell REFERENCE: 69224 LABEL: Gambit Includes the complete Italian Concerts: Rome, February 1968 and Milan, February 1968 The material collected for this 2-CD set corresponds to the February 1968 European tour, featuring Coleman's Quartet with his regular unusual group inclufing David Izenzon and Charlie Haden on bass, and Ed Blackwell on drums. The first CD includes the Rome concert, with extended versions of four original compositions, including a fantastic interpretation of the already popular "Lonely Woman." The second CD contains the Milan's Teatro Lirico performances, with three original compositions. The sum of this material on one edition, makes this an essential release, capturing a crucial period of the career of an artist that without a doubt, remains the ultimate contemporary musician of the jazz vanguard. CD1 1. Lonely Woman 2. Monsieur Le Prince 3. Forgotten Children 4. Buddha Blues CD2 1. Tutti 2. Three Wisemen and the Saint 3. New York Total time: 44:52 + 55:41 min.

My favorite thing about Thanksgiving: The left-most pie is what I call a Starter Pie, the pie that I use to adjust my palate before digging into the Primary Pie on the right. Not pictured: the Concluding Pie.

Sorry Quincy! When I was writing my reply, I scrolled down to the bottom of the page and saw Berigan's post; not remembering that only the last 10 posts are shown I thought B was the orginator (especially since his entry was so early in the morning - you guys must be night owls or insomniacs). It's this attention to detail that will serve me well as a technical support reprethingy at my new job. Oh, to be back in the arms of a cold and indifferent corporation... I really love the camaraderie and goodwill of the members of Organissimo.org. If this site were a bar in Boston, I'd be Norm Peterson - and I'd never leave. Thanks again, everyone!

I've been fooling around with a swing version of Elvis Costello's Watching The Detectives for awhile. Kind of a lounge-y feel with a gruff sax melody.
