  1. Don't know if it's been noted here yet, but some guy almost took a tumble at the HR derby last night. Not sure what can be done if people insist on jumping out over the railings. I have a thing about heights myself, and don't really like getting near those things, let alone hang out over the abyss.
  2. Great photo. Thanks!
  3. Bodhi's doing great. Lots of tail wagging, walks, adventures down along the bayfront. I'm getting him out and about as much as possible. I've had him a week now and every day I see him bonding a bit more with me. The first few days he was basically confused about where he was and just tried to kind of fade into the background. The first day with my cat Peanut I was really a little concerned. Lots of hissing and yelping and scurrying about. They're completely comfortable with one another after just one week. We all slept in the same bed last night. He's hand shy and quite wary of meeting new dogs. A little less shy with people. I think he may have been isolated -- caged -- for the first four years of his life (in a backyard puppy mill) rather than physically abused, and he simply didn't know the human touch during the first half of his life. He doesn't cringe when I go to pet him, he just stiffens a bit, ears go down, as if he's not sure what it's going to feel like. Needless to say, lots of gentle petting, praising, etc. He's a great guy. A big success!
  4. I pegged him right away. I probably knew what he looked like from the Woodstock film or something. I remember the show 'To Tell the Truth,' probably from a few years later than that episode. They sure don't give the panel much time for questions.
  5. Allen expects to have the CD listed on his website by the end of the day. The $15 introductory priced will expire this Wednesday July 13 - new prices as posted on the web site: www.allenlowe.com
  6. Franz Jackson -- "Yellow Fire" Chicago Living Legends: Junie C. Cobb
  7. Linkage disfunction in a Badass thread. This is embarrassing.
  8. I think it was Ziegler who was interviewed on M&M this morning and he sounded like he was having an increasingly tough time keeping it together as he talked about it.
  9. Terrible accident. Didn't something similar happen at a Rangers game earlier this year, or was it last year, when a guy fell out of one of the upper decks reaching for a ball?
  10. This one arrived in the mail today. Excellent. Spun the Barnes-Bocage Big Five 1954 earlier also. A bit rougher around the edges, that one.
  11. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS ... @widdlyscoot.com
  12. My only point of reference is the celeste on Profoundly Blue, and frankly I can't shake the image that it's just a really tiny Meade Lux Lewis sitting in with the band. But, to each his own. If they'd used an 18th century harpsichord perhaps I'd see the light.
  13. Time to go check on my bid. Aw man, I'm getting outbid already. Time to up the ante! Dang. Tough round of bidding. Back on top though.
  14. Utter bullshit. Taxpayer winds up paying for ambulances and medical care for the helmetless crashers. Typical neocon garbage. Hmmm ... pretty sure the ambulance comes regardless, so that's a sunk cost, helmet or no. And on what basis do you claim that the taxpayer pays for medical care of helmetless crashers? Is there some proof that the people who don't wear helmets also have insufficient insurance, or no insurance? Citation, please. And furthermore, what are the survival rates of helmetted and helmet-less motorcyclists who crash? Helmets save lives presumably, but they're not perfect systems of head-protection and I have no doubt whatsoever that helmets cost taxpayers more because they keep people with still-critical injuries alive, resulting in the creation of more profoundly disabled former riders draining medical resources. Dead riders don't cost the taxpayer anything. Typical and predictable leftwing crap. If you google "motorcycle injuries" there's a PDF (not sure how to link it but it's the second item listed when I searched) of a research paper that goes into great detail about the costs of treating motorcycle accident injuries in 2000 vs. the cost of treating injuries from motor vehicle accidents (car accidents). I didn't read through the whole thing, it's pretty long, and I don't think they break it down for helmet vs. no helmet. However, one thing that jumped out at me was that public funds paid for 26.1 percent of motor vehicle crash injuries and 19.5 percent of motor cycle injury costs. The length of hospital stay is almost identical when comparing motorcycle vs. motor vehicle injuries: An average of 23.8 days for all motorcycle injuries vs. 23.9 days for all motor vehicle injuries. Overall, of course, the costs for care from motor vehicle accidents far outweighs the costs for care of motorcycle accident victims, simply because there are more of them. A cursory look at this study indicates that the costs of treatment seem to be a non-factor in the issue of helmet laws. But I still don't see why helmet laws are framed in terms of personal freedom while seat belt laws are not.
  15. Enjoyed it. Thanks for the link.
  16. I've never bid on eBay, I don't think. Bought a couple of things with the "buy now" option. May have to try my hand at it here.
  17. I believe it was Robert Schapiro who said yesterday that the prosecutors "over-prosecuted" the case; that it should never have been a capital case, for instance. (In his opinion). He also said that these cases are not about getting "justice," a term thrown around liberally on the networks in the aftermath of the verdict, I assume. And they never are. They are about whether the facts prove beyond a reasonable doubt the charges (hence, his belief that prosecutors over-reached in their charges).
  18. Papsrus, was that the girl who was walking across the parking lot and surveillance video filmed the guy abducting her? That was such as sad story. That's the one. It was tragic.
  19. paps, I don't think that Nancy Grace is with Fox News. I think she is with CNN. Ah, well, shows what I know. It was definitely Fox.
  20. I think she called my house once, some years ago, after it became known that my then-wife was very nearly (and stupidly) attacked by a guy who later abducted a young girl and killed her. It was a semi-national story for about a week. Fox News kept calling the house wanting to interview my ex. I fielded the phone calls, and I believe it was for this Grace woman's show. Eventually she (or whomever the host was) called to badger us.
  21. There's a track listing with the link now.
  22. Florida does not require motorcycle riders to wear helmets, yet the laws do require people in cars to wear seat belts. I'm not against wearing seat belts. I always wear one. But the incongruity of these laws is a little curious.
