Of all the live recordings of Charlie Parker discovered over the years
papsrus replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Discography
Looks like the Definitive releaseis the only way to get this? But ... stumbled across another Definitive, "Giant Among Giants-Complete," which are live recordings from the Pershing Hotel Ballroom in Chicago in 1950, and include among the band Von Freeman. Anyone familiar? New copies from cdimports are fairly inexpensive. -
Just retrieved the new booklet and tray for "Spirit Catcher" from the mailbox (which of course also includes the list you've just provided above). Thanks. Looks great! EDIT: paypal sent for Saga of the Outlaws.

Thank you.

Chuck, when you have a chance can you post a list or link to all the titles you currently have available? Thanks

Beautiful.

Thanks to Jim, for the new board
papsrus replied to The Magnificent Goldberg's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Absolutely. I echo MG's sentiments. And the new interface (technical term) is really slick! Once I got familiar with it, very easy to use. Just one of the really nice enhancements is the way PMs are strung together in a 'conversation.' It makes keeping track of whatever the heck it was I said the day before much easier. -
How To Donate To The Organissimo Forums
papsrus replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Forums Discussion
I for one don't mind at all being reminded periodically. Maybe there's a way with this newfangled software to set an annual pop-up reminder for members, or just send a blanket PM to all members once a year (twice a year, whatever the case). Donation sent, btw. And thanks for making this great board available, Jim. It's not only a fun place to hang, but an invaluable resource. James -
Words and music; style and content.
papsrus replied to The Magnificent Goldberg's topic in Miscellaneous Music
It seems to me that various styles of music can express the exact same emotions. And if this is true, it suggests there is some meaning, or content, that transcends mere style. Both the blues and certain pieces of classical music, for example, can express the exact same emotion -- a sense of longing or heartache. Yet they do so using very different approaches, or styles. So the style of music is simply a means of expressing the content -- the emotion of longing or heartache, for example. Both BillF and John L alluded to basically the same notion above, I think. -
You want "regular" links to be opened in a new tab? The "Tab Mix Plus" or "Tab Control" add-ons can probably achieve this (rather odd, IMO) behaviour. Alternatives to the "open link in new tab" context menu route: * click link with middle mouse button/scroll wheel * hold <ctrl> and left click link I believe if you also hit the F7 key and tap the space bar at the same time using the appropriate rhythm, it gives you the intro to 'So What.'

woman cited for loud sex

An "an anti-social behaviour order?" Good thing they don't hand those out around here. -
Tuesday, Dec. 15. Hope the gig was a blast!

Sounds like a great session. Like others, I'm very much looking forward to the release Allen.

Listening to Vol. 1 now Joe, with Pee Wee, Red Nichols (!) and Jimmy Dorsey. Really nice. And Davies was something else. I'm guessing he had as much, or more, to do with preserving (restoring) this type of music as any single person. (His Wiki entry is criminally lacking, btw).

Actually, they don't play anti-clockwise, as shown in this illustration. The read head is below the CD, so what appears to be anti-clockwise from above is actually clockwise from the point of view of the read head. MG Inside out and upside down. ... This sounds like one of those engineering jobs where they said at the start, "What if we did everything exactly opposite to the way it works now?" ... If only the marketing guys had done the same thing and come up with the 'pay it forward' method for acquiring CDs. Then we'd really have had something!

Thanks Harold. Will look for those.

Everything is looking good on my old (haven't updated in ages) version of firefox, fwiw.

Well, as usual, our GM figured on getting a ton of 1st round picks, and was wrong. Not all of his fault of course.... Rays got a very good closer(His fastball is a bit straight and will go through a 1-2 week period each year of giving up homers) for next to nothing. Braves refuse to pay a nickel of anyone's contract...too good for it. So they get next to nothing for one of the better closers. Your team will be much better because of him! Just don't expect him to be chatty. Our beat writer was a bit afraid of him in fact! Thanks. And sorry 'bout stealing him from you, but Rays were in desperate need there. Don't mind so much if he isn't too chatty as long as he can get three outs.

A little outside the focus of this thread, but I'm listening now to another newie -- Eddie Condon: Dixieland All-Stars, the Original Decca Sessions (39 - 46) ... (great, great album!) and in the liner notes Richard M. Sudhalter, in describing what a colorful character Condon was, says that Condon "dragged Fats Waller out of bed for the most important record date of his life." He isn't any more specific than that. What date is he referring to?

Happy birthday Jim.

Yes, the Williams titles I've gathered up are really nice -- wonderful tunes. Also, the Jazz Oracle label that Lon and others directed me to is fantastic. The sound on these is as clear as anything I've listened to from this era -- often much clearer. I'm listening to a Jazz Oracle release of another Williams now -- clarinet player Douglas Williams, mostly in small trios and quartets, and dripping with the blues -- and it's beautifully clear.

Looks great. Well done! Sent a PM to someone and didn't notice a way to insert a link. I'm sure it's there. I'll have another look. Place looks great. Seems very fast, too.

Berigan, what's your take on Rafael Soriano? He's got to be an upgrade as closer for the Rays.
-
Yeah. I know.

The only reason I stumbled across this is because I was playing a CD I just got today (used) and it was fine until halfway through the last track, when it began skipping and then basically stopped playing. I checked the surface and noticed a rather long scratch near the outer edge of the disc. Sure enough, that's where the last track resides.
