  1. This kinda feels like stepping into a confession booth for me. ... Course, I've never actually been in a confession booth -- at least not when someone's been on the other side of the screen. In any case, over the past week or so: Miff Mole -- "Slippin' Around, Vol. 1" (and "Slippin' Around Again Vol. 2," for which I can't find an image) Clarence Williams -- "Shake 'Em Up" Clarence Williams Jug & Washboard Bands -- "Whoop It Up! Volume 1: 1927-1929" Muggsy Spanier -- "Great Original Performances (1931-1939)" Johnny Dodds -- "Blue Clarinet Stomp" "John Jenkins With Kenny Burrell" and from sellers here at organissimo: Anthony Braxton -- "In the Tradition, Vol. 1" Anthony Braxton -- "In the Tradition, Vol. 2" Herculaneum -- "Orange Blossom"
  2. A walking definition of 'high maintenance.' No like music -- call cops No like beer -- call cops No like wife -- call cops No like movie -- Cops! Bad meal at restaurant -- 911 Rainy day again! -- get the cops ... no like cops -- ????????
  3. Check the NY Post link. Slide show has lovely view of the bathroom.
  4. Surely not out of the wiondow? They do have space for a wine rack though. Gotta get the priorities right ! The NY Post (linked above) has a slide show of the apartment. The person who took the photo above was standing roughly where the door to the bathroom is. I lived in a cabin one summer when I was around 19 than wasn't much bigger.
  5. And they have two cats!
  6. Lends a whole new meaning to the phrase, "coming out of the closet."
  7. I think you can go to "edit post" in the original post. When you're in there, you can then change the title of the thread to something like "please delete this" and then erase all the text in the original post, leaving it empty.
  8. I think that Canada-bashing Colbert must have a hand in all this somehow.
  9. All in a good cause. Good for the soul, this stuff. One oath you'll hopefully be glad that you broke.
  10. I just recently acquired the 'Richmond Rarities' Jazz Oracle through other means. The 'Celestin / Morgan' as well, which looks like it's among the sale items on the main page but isn't listed in the 40% off page. Thanks for the link!
  11. Try here MG. I'm guessing Vol. 1 is the one.
  12. Check out Sidney Brown's bass on the Sam Morgan sides. For my money this guy knew where it was going. You nailed it. Brown comes through loud and clear, too. The sound on these Jazz Oracles is really outstanding.
  13. I guess Charlie Weis took a shot at Pete Carroll on the way out the door: Charlie, Charlie, Charlie. I'm no fan of Carroll's, obviously, but this was a cheap shot.
  14. I think I partied with those guys back in college one night. They had a bus and were from Texas, I believe. ... The JSP is on the way.
  15. Haven't focused too much on new music this year -- (understatement) -- but two releases absolutely deserve 5-star mention: 1. Von Freeman--Vonski Speaks (Nessa) 2. Alexander Hawkins Ensemble - No now is so (FMR) (I have Josh Berman -- Old Ideas (delmark) on order and can safely anticipate that it would make my top 10 list, given that I have only two releases on there now.)
  16. Josh Berman Old Idea (delmark) Paramount Jazz -- Various artists (jsp) McKinney's Cotton Pickers -- 1928 - 1929 (chronological classics) Gennett Rarities (jazz oracle) Douglas Williams -- 1928 - 1930, The Complete Recordings (jazz oracle)
  17. No slight against Nebraska, which from what I saw played g-r-e-a-t, flying around like a bunch of crazy people on defense, but I'm going to guess that if Texas has similar offensive difficulties against Alabama, it's not going to be pretty. McCoy looked dazed at the end of that game. Florida was due for the pounding it took in the SEC title game. They are not the team they were last year. Too many loose ends on that squad. Tebow wins with 'will' more than 'skill,' and that's bound to catch up to you when you run into a powerful team firing on all cylinders, like Alabama was. The Gator defense was not playing with the kind of aggression you need in a game like that. They got pasted. And the Florida offense can obviously be shut down by a good defense. I wouldn't characterize it as 'one-dimensional,' but it's certainly not dynamic. They just run the same plays they've been running for two years now. That's not going work forever. And when you force them to abandon the running game, they're cooked. Tebow just doesn't have the arm to carry that load. Nice to see USC drop another one.
  18. Louisiana Rhythm Kings, 1929 - 1930 (jazz oracle) Harlem Hamfats, Vol. 1 (document)
  19. I definitely will, Lon. Great suggestion. The 'Richmond Rarities' that I snagged is one of theirs. Also ordered Oscar Celestin, Sam Morgan -- "Recorded in New Orleans 1925 - 1928" issued by the label. Thank you.
  20. Here's what I've come up with ... (Post 4866). In my original post in this thread I mentioned erroneously "The Original Memphis Five -- Columbias 1923 - 1931" as one of the recordings I already have on had. It should have been another Timeless Historical release. And so, the 'Columbias' disc is now on order with the others. Thanks again for all the great input. I'll certainly be returning to the thread to cull fresh titles from time to time and throw up the odd comment about what I've listened to.
  21. I will, yes. Some wonderful insights and suggestions there. The difficult part is narrowing things down to a manageable size -- which I may not have succeeded in doing. But I'm looking forward to each of these.
  22. Johnny Dunn -- Cornet Blues Bix Beiderbecke and the Wolverines Perry Bradford -- A Panorama 1923-1927 The Missourians -- Stoppin' The Traffic Spike Hughes -- 1933 Johnny Dodds -- New Orleans Stomp: 1926-1927 Alex Hill -- Ain't It Nice: The Recordings Of Alex Hill, Vol. 1 - 1928-1934 Richmond Rarities Original Memphis Five -- The Columbias 1923 - 1931 Jelly Roll Morton -- 1923 - 1926
  23. Nice words from the author, Allen. "Jews in Hell" is wild.
