  1. Albert Ayler/Spirits. UK Transatlantic issue. Jeffcrom reminded me of this fine recording. I like this cover.
  2. Just received and playing now.
  3. amazon uk is giving a late October date for this, Mine shipped today from the UK distributor (Discovery Records). A good organisation to order from. Always worth checking out their price for Fresh Sound, Gambit etc. etc.
  4. Still waiting in the UK.
  5. Ace European pressing. A footnote on the jacket states 'master tape lost, dubbed from lp'. Is this the case fro subsequent issues? and now French Pathe Marconi issue

    Budd Johnson

Gil Evans' La Nevada (Out Of The Cool) wouldn't be the same without Budd. Fine solo.
  7. Just receieved mine and playing the Antwerp set. Sound is far better than the Jazzman cd if my memory is correct. Reading the booklet reminded me that I Miles in London on this tour. My only real recollection of the concert is the audience reaction after the Archie Shepp segment when one or two scuffles broke out between Shepp fans and non-Shepp fans.
  8. James Clay and David Newman; The Sound Of The Wide Open Spaces!!!! OJC/Riverside
  9. Lawence Marable; Tenorman. Fresh Sound reissue
  10. This is now up on the UK distributors website. It's cheaper than Amazon and includes shipping. Unfortunately it wont be in stock until later this week.
  11. Amazon UK have shipped mine today. Free shipping so I'm not expecting itfor two or three days.
  12. Thanks for posting the link F. This is a book I'd like to read but like Dan I have no interest in a Kindle.

    INGO Records

Completely agree. And not only the bootlegs. Some of the Horos were awful.
  14. Yes, absolutely right! Agree

I used to have a Clifford Brown and a two Mulligan's. If I recall the sound on the Brownie was pretty awful and the Mulligan's seemed to have been badly processed somewhere along the line. I didn't keep them, I didn't get much pleasure from them.
  16. Happy Birthday Ronald. It's been a while since we were in touch but I'm still very grateful for your help. Have a great day.
  17. Murray's Steps is perhaps the most straight ahead of the BS octets. I like almost all of Murray's work, He's extremely consistent. I can't think of a poor one but could name quite a few I wouldn't want to be without. I'd start with Flowers For Albert (India Navigation). One that eluded me is The Peace Church Concert. Love to hear that one.
  18. Sounds like one for me too, although I have a greater fondness for earlier Brubeck.
  19. Just listened to Jazz Library. Brian Priestley on Mulligan, splendid.
  20. john Coltrane; The Prestige Recordings. Disc 1 (Tenor Madness + Informal Jazz)
  21. When I was in Krakow there were some very nice sounds from Janusz Muniak, he has a club just a few steps from the main square. I also found the tradition of the trumpeter who plays a few notes on the hour from the tower in the square oddly moving.
  22. You are right Flurin, Birkenau really brings the horror home to you.
  23. That's probably fairly rare. I have the Cecil on Praxis but not that one. I think it may have reappeared on a Leo cd Paul. Didn't know about the Leo reissue, but your vinyl copy is still probably rare. Reissued by Leo Records as "Live in Milano" Recorded live in Milano, August 1980 Recording licensed from "Praxis". Original LP "Among the People" The song titles on the original LP were incorrect: Tutankhamun [Among The People] Illinstrun [shango King] A Jackson In Your House [Choosing A Cracker] Thanks for that Alan. Perhaps not the most essential AEOC record.
  24. Yes, Krakow is very nice, old town, decent jazz club. We spent few days there including a sobering visit to Auschwitz.
