  1. Not sure if this has been posted before. Good news, bad news???? My link
  2. no Interesting record, but no from me too.
  3. John Wright; Makin' Out. Prestige Not played in a while, a tad disappointing on this spin.
  4. This has long been a favorite of mine. Mine too. What an exciting time it was when these were made. Very exciting times indeed! Still have the original release of that session on the Sonet label (with notes by Eric Wiedemann) The album opens from the top! Ah yes, the original cover. Never managed to see one of those. I had the slighty later one, same illustration but with glossy card and edge opening.
  5. This has long been a favorite of mine. Mine too. What an exciting time it was when these were made.
  6. A very happy birthday to you.
  7. What about George Lewis. Anderson's a particular favourite of mine, Craig Harris too. One trombonist I've never heard but who seems to do a lot of adventurous things is Michael Vlatkovich. Anyone any views on him. UK trombonist Alan Tomlinson might be worth investigating together with Paul Rutherford. Okay, some of these are probably a bit too far out but still worth a mention.
  8. Some classic Sonny Stitt- Stitt's Bits, disc one. Prestige
  9. Thanks for posting Bill.
  10. Happy Birthday Jeff
  11. IIRC the Moon 2lp set is identical. And yes, there's some great playing from the rhythm section
  12. Impossible for me to choose, I started with a badly pressed UK Vogue 10", moved on to a Verve ep then the Savoy lps were released. All of it revelatory in my early listening days, so I have a soft spot for all of those. Now I have most of it plus a load of live stuff and it's all still brilliant. No, can't, or don't want to, decide!
  13. oh dear, more bad news. I've not heard Beck for a long time but I have good memories of him playing at Ronnie Scott's back in the 60s.
  14. Also on Jazz Door cd 1201. some distortion but not bad enough to distract significantly. IIRC the Moon vinyl was worse.
  15. A very happy birthday to you GA.
  16. Gigi Gryce; Reminiscin'. Trip Jazz pressing
  17. Nothing wrong with it at all Aloc. Nice buy.
  18. Always thought that this was a rather odd cover picture. Another thought, both this and Pepper and Knepper have unexpected organ playing. An organ in the studio perhaps or a producers quirk.
  19. Pepper and Knepper. Metrojazz (Japan) Followed by - Gerry Mulligan - Spring is Sprung. UK Philips.
  20. Sad news. I only know his Savoy recording but his books were highly regarded when I first got into jazz.
  21. Another guess - Sir Charles Thompson
  22. Nice one Adrian. Lighthouse All Stars Vol 3. OJC.
  23. Well worth 30 minutes of your time. Thanks for posting Dave.
  24. I don't know this one Leeway, but Lytle always brings a smile and a happy feeling.
