The Amazon reviews disagree about the sound quality. My discography (Lohmann) lists the Filmore and Melbourne concerts as, respectively, unissued Columbia and Warners recordings. Wolfgangs's Vault has the Filmore.
No, love the instrument. So many great solos and soloists from Tricky Sam through to Ray Anderson.
The trombone live makes an incredible sound, so many overtones that are not captured on record. Over the years I've sat very close to several masters and these experiences rate are among my most treasured jazz memories.
I saw the '65 trio in London. It certainly wasn't what I expected. They shared the bill with Art Blakey, the band with Lee Morgan and John Gilmore. Quite a conrast.
It's great that the BBC records and broadcasts so many gigs like this. Catch it while you can. Yet another one to chalk up to streaming technology?
Very nice set. Well worth a listen. I didn't expect it to be so enjoyable.
what a great cover. Bet the music's pretty hot too
Yes, nice album. Plenty of heavyweight bari from Tyler. Sounds a tad messy at times especially with two basses and a cello.
