Didn't buy one but received some from a friend in Europe. Only one played so far
Steve Kuhn/Joe Lovano with David Finck and Joey Baron doing their Coltrane thing at Jazz Baltica in 2008. Great quality fronm German ZDF tv. Shame that UK tv can't manage someting like this.
The Swing shop wasn't easy for me to get too. But I bought Ornette Coleman at The Golden Circle Vol 2 and the Heliocentric Worlds Vol 2 by Sun Ra there. So it was always worth a visit.
On one visit there I saw Stan Tracey nearby walking a very small Clark home, I guess, from school.
Thanks for the links jazzjet. I remember HMV and Imhofs well. As a teenager back in the late 50s it was always exciting to go to London and tour the record shops, Asman's Dobell's, Collets and the Oxford Street stores. The problem was that I could only afford to buy about one album a month.
Just finished the Complete Freddie Redd on Blue Note.
Dexter Gordon; Clubhouse. Blue Note (Rainbow) - I didn't know that Ben Tucker replaced Cranshaw on one track. Nothing to indicate that on this issue.
Next on
Grant Green; Solid. Blue Note (Rainbow)
Coming in a little late here but Heliocentric Worlds Volume 1 always pleases. Not only my favourite Ra record but one that has a permanent place in my top ten.
I saw Ra's band twice, both times a magical experience. I was also lucky enough to sit in when Ra was interviewed by the late Peter Clayton. Not much musical information was imparted during the hour or so but there was a lot pf philosphy from the softly spoken Ra. The tape ran out after 30 minutes and I don't believe any of it was broadcast.
Golden Circle One for me. It's a valuable document and probably the best exanmple of thre group live. Luckily I was able to see them several times. Great music.
Capitol Jazz Classics was a great series. In addition to the above I had the Konitz/Marsh Crosscurrents and perhaps some more, now forgotten but replaaced by cd.
Thanks for that - I was hoping that they would step up to the mark. Along with their great prices on the new Vocalions, Amazon UK offer some superb deals at present. No wonder all the brick and mortar stores are going bust.
My thanks too, pre-ordered today. Too good to miss at that price even if I do have some of the music already.
Thnaks for the replies. I sorta guessed that what Niko descibes was the problem but couldn'y really understand why images appeared on my browser initially but were not there when viewing later. It looks like image hosting may be the answer in he end. Thanks again.
By the way Niko the Matana Roberts image loaded, not sure how you did that!
Once or twice lately I've noticed that my posted images disappear. These are mostly cover pics with a jpg extension. They appear to post okay but if I look later they are gone. Any idea what's going wrong.
Had lots of these, sold a few as cds became available but still have many. I thought the Savoy series was among the best, a lot of excellent and hard to find music, intelligent notes and good packaging. Exciting times back then.
