I agree with that. We (me and my wife) watched a little bit of 30 Rock last season and we enjoyed it. I think Baldwin/Fey/Morgan are a very good comedy team and 30 Rock will get funnier and funnier as time goes by. The Offfice is a clear-cut favorite for me and my wife, so there is a little competition as to who has the better show....But who knows, this season may surprise us.

Woah, woah, woah. The Office is the best NBC has. :rsmile: I tried watching an early episode and it was a bit too much for me...working in an office all these years. Now that I'm not, I should give it a spin. I think that would make it all the more funny for you. All the nuances that go on in a day-to-day office is excatly what they focus on, making it all the more entertaining. Check out season one, if you can, especially "Diversity Day." Not after what I went through. I may have post-traumatic stress syndrome. The Office will cure you of that

after years of out, the necktie is in
AndrewHill replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I have a ton of neckties, but I seem to never have a reason to wear them. I wish I would've kept my grey knit slender tie that was squared off at the bottom from the early 80's...now that I'd wear -

It's ALL done for money. Show me the musician who didn't want paying. MG I think 7/4 meant music that compromises artistically in order to get more money. (i.e. The artist deliberately "reduces the quality" of their music.) This opens up a whole can of worms and may be so subjective as to be completely meaningless (though I don't think so), but I think that's what people mean when they accuse an artist of producing "commercial"/"commercialized" music or "selling out". Guy I agree with the "subjectivity" of what it means when an artist "compromises" his/her/their music for more appeal/money/fame etc. I don't remember where I heard/read this but someone said/wrote (man, it could've been in the liner notes of Kofi, but I don't have that cd available at th moment) about Donald Byrd's electric period that he wasn't selling out, he was buying in.

I wasn't either. I just picked up Cooper-Moore and Assif Tsahar's "Tells Untold" on Hopscotch, which is a label I've never heard of before, and was amazed at how many releases they have from artists like Hugh Ragin, Hamid Drake etc. Their website looks pretty nice www.hopscotchrecords.com which is sprawled along the bottom of the paper sleeve. Looks like a pretty cool label.

I saw them back in July and by and large it was a good show. The emphasis was on the songs, as they had no stage show per se. And I enjoyed wathcing Copeland/Summers more than Sting. I don't recall Sting "talking" through his songs, but he did sound just like he did on the records.

what is your clothing style
AndrewHill replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
At home shorts and a t-shirt and yes, even ball caps and flip flops. At work, khakis and a nice shirt. Can't tell when the last time I had a tie on. I don't like shopping, especially for clothes, so I've plopped that job in my wife's lap, which she seems to enjoy. -
Oh yeah. Will play Of Love and Peace in his honor.

Ok, since the label Pablo is named after Picasso, can anyone explain the logo that goes with the Pablo name?

Thank you Larry for your insightful posts. I guess, I can't say I "dismissed" WC jazz per se, But I definitely did not take listening to WC seriously until much later. I do like West Coast jazz quite a bit now (mostly due to Blue Note's WCC) but for different reasons than East Coast jazz. My first real exposure to jazz music was through the ranks of Vince Guaraldi in my jazz club in middle school, yet I found myself gravitating more towards Trane and Dolphy as a black friend on my block played tenor sax (I played bass clarinet) and we used to jam (just him and I) for hours at a time. I really didn't return to West Coast jazz and give it a serious listen until my early 30's, long after listening to "East Coast" (scare quotes, to denote that I really don't like to bracket it like that) jazz. But I appreciate and like West Coast jazz for what it is, and that my assessment is my own and not from outside influences. Looking back, I think I liked Trane and Dolphy more than Vince Guaraldi because they just seemed more exciting than me. I suppose that WC jazz may appeal to an older or mature listenining audience (as I found myself doing as I got older) because of its "cool" appeal and laid back approach (for the most part).

Am I the only one who thinks LEEWAY is boring?
AndrewHill replied to Big Al's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Great idea! I remember when I was struggling with Big John Patton's 'Accent on the Blues' and expressed as such in a Patton thread, then Soulstream indicated some stuff to hear for. I did that, and now my appreciation for this album is really high now. -
May I suggest Kirk's Works w/ Jack McDuff?

I first want to add that this is meant to be a completely respectful inquiry. If I'm asking for too much,or if someone finds this out of the scope of this forum, just let me know, and I'll take the topic down (how do you do that?). I realize that its a very involved, complicated, deep topic. I just thought I'd pick the brains of those in the know, since I didn't live in that era and I'm not terribly familiar with the topic at hand. And I certianly don't want to do anything but handle this topic with care and respect. My intention was not to start a controversial thread or to start an argument. I was Just wondering if anyone knows if this really went down i.e., within the context that I want to approach it, and if there's any literature on the subject. Thanks again, HG

I can't believe I missed that hint!
