  1. I knew it! For a while, whenever my wife and I exchanged gifts (anniversay, valentines, etc...), I'd get her jewelry and she'd buy me a Mosaic set. I think she was thinking that it was a good investment.
  2. Those were good upgrades. I did the same thing and then gave my old versions to friends who were just getting into jazz. They loved them. The truth is, I really appreciate the improvement in audio quality on a lot of the RVGs. I just miss those Tower $7.99 sales. They were made for upgrading.
  3. Alexander, Can I still sign up? :rsmile:
  4. Good comeback! I'll have to use my wife's shoes as an example. Heck, she only has two feet! She can't wear them all at once.
  5. Have you ever used the excuse. "When they go out of print, they'll be worth a fortune" and then quote ridiculous ebay prices. Of course, you know the whole time that you never plan on selling your sets. You can't imagine how many times my wife has suggested I sell my Mosaics. She looks at them like they're gold.
  6. Hardbopjazz, I'm glad that I wasn't alone. I think I knew the layout of the stores better than most of the people who worked there. It wasn't uncommon for me to help customers find things (especially when employees couldn't ). I got really tired of being asked by some of the clerks, "Oh, back already?" - Oof! I almost have an aversion to going CD shopping anymore. B)
  7. RDK, I was just clarifying my position. But, they were the "real" Beatles when they had Pete Best!!!!!
  8. If it's in Michigan, I don't think I can make it. My wife's family is in Detroit (and I'm afraid of them - they're crazy!)
  9. When you start buying cds you already own. When you have a stack of cds you bought the month before that you still haven't listened to for the first time. Other than that, I don't believe it is possible to buy too much music. GUILTY! At my worst before I was married (about 8 years ago), I had over 120 unopened CDs on the shelf. I was buying at least 1 CD a day (usually more). I started going to different stores (far from my house) because I was embarrassed to be buying so many CDs.
  10. Thanks Bruce! It was great this weekend. My son and I had a great time listening to these sets. vajerzy, That Capitol set does make the other sets seem cheap! I think I was blinded by that. I almost ordered the Stitt set too.
  11. I've done more upgrading than I should have. I really feel like a chump for re-buying something that I already have. I too am really torn on this subject. Those RVGs are so nice and enticing, but I already bought most of those albums (at full price as Collector's Choice titles ).
  12. Good argument, Wes!
  13. That's like saying the REAL Miles Davis only recorded one album called "The Birth of the Cool." I see a real difference between Syd Barrett Floyd and the Waters/Gilmour Floyd. I LOVE Piper at the Gates at Dawn (and Syd's solo records too). It's my favorite sixties psychedelic record. I love this album so much that I regularily play the tracks on my guitar. My last band even covered the album for fun. We once played a show which we performed the whole album. I also LOVE what Gilmour brought to the band, but to me, it was a different creature. I love that version up to Dark Side of the Moon. I think they peaked at Meddle.
  14. Thanks John! More like, welcome back to debt land. It's funny, I had almost talked myself out of being a jazz fanatic. I got so tired of always trying to dig up cash to buy more, that it lost the fun. So, I've tried not to listen to much jazz and put my focus elsewhere. But as soon as I put some Lee Konitz on, I remembered why I used to spend all my extra money on jazz. Last night, I was listening to the Andrew Hill Mosaic set and I just re-fell in love with the music.
  15. Bruce, thanks for asking! I picked up the Tristano/Konitz/Marsh and the Capitol set. I ordered them Monday and they arrived on Thursday. I spent the whole weekend listening to them. I then lost control and on Friday, ordered the New Orleans and the HRS sets. I also ordered my first Selects: Carmell Jones, Curtis Amy, Randy Weston, and Bob Brookmeyer. I really am done for a while.
  16. I have the Blue Moon reissues and I had not planned on getting the Mosaic sets. Thanks for the info! I'll have to add these to my want list.
  17. That Joe Henderson was a real disappointment to me. I need to hear that Sony Classical version that Jazzbo recommended.
  18. I need to get some of those resealable outer sleeves for my digipacks. Does Bags Unlimited have the best prices? Any help would be appreciated. :rsmile:
  19. I've heard a bunch of versions... Miles / Gil for me.
  20. Wow! Thanks for posting this.
  21. That would be funny, Joe. But I just can't do it! There was a guy in my high school that dressed like Don Johnson. I called him Jon Dohnson.
  22. Speaking of Miami Vice, Back in the days of Crockett and Tubbs, did any of you actually dress like Don Johnson? I have to admit I had one outfit that was like his. I wore it once and then came to my senses. :rsmile:
  23. Man, you sound like me! Just replace the booze with guitar pickin' and there I am. B)
