  1. Good argument, Wes!
  2. That's like saying the REAL Miles Davis only recorded one album called "The Birth of the Cool." I see a real difference between Syd Barrett Floyd and the Waters/Gilmour Floyd. I LOVE Piper at the Gates at Dawn (and Syd's solo records too). It's my favorite sixties psychedelic record. I love this album so much that I regularily play the tracks on my guitar. My last band even covered the album for fun. We once played a show which we performed the whole album. I also LOVE what Gilmour brought to the band, but to me, it was a different creature. I love that version up to Dark Side of the Moon. I think they peaked at Meddle.
  3. Thanks John! More like, welcome back to debt land. It's funny, I had almost talked myself out of being a jazz fanatic. I got so tired of always trying to dig up cash to buy more, that it lost the fun. So, I've tried not to listen to much jazz and put my focus elsewhere. But as soon as I put some Lee Konitz on, I remembered why I used to spend all my extra money on jazz. Last night, I was listening to the Andrew Hill Mosaic set and I just re-fell in love with the music.
  4. Bruce, thanks for asking! I picked up the Tristano/Konitz/Marsh and the Capitol set. I ordered them Monday and they arrived on Thursday. I spent the whole weekend listening to them. I then lost control and on Friday, ordered the New Orleans and the HRS sets. I also ordered my first Selects: Carmell Jones, Curtis Amy, Randy Weston, and Bob Brookmeyer. I really am done for a while.
  5. I have the Blue Moon reissues and I had not planned on getting the Mosaic sets. Thanks for the info! I'll have to add these to my want list.
  6. That Joe Henderson was a real disappointment to me. I need to hear that Sony Classical version that Jazzbo recommended.
  7. I need to get some of those resealable outer sleeves for my digipacks. Does Bags Unlimited have the best prices? Any help would be appreciated. :rsmile:
  8. I've heard a bunch of versions... Miles / Gil for me.
  9. Wow! Thanks for posting this.
  10. That would be funny, Joe. But I just can't do it! There was a guy in my high school that dressed like Don Johnson. I called him Jon Dohnson.
  11. Speaking of Miami Vice, Back in the days of Crockett and Tubbs, did any of you actually dress like Don Johnson? I have to admit I had one outfit that was like his. I wore it once and then came to my senses. :rsmile:
  12. Man, you sound like me! Just replace the booze with guitar pickin' and there I am. B)
  13. Life's too short to be on the wagon anyway.
  14. I just received my first Mosaic sets after a two year hiatus. Wow, I forgot how much fun these things are! The excited feeling when the box arrives, the fun of opening it up, pulling out the bubble wrap, opening the set, checking the booklet for the number, putting the first disc on, reading the notes. I think I'd rather skip buying individual CDs and just put my money into the box sets. Argh! I'm hooked. I need to find a Mosaic 12-step group.
  15. I bet they know how to par-tay! I don't care, at least I got some good music and some free time.
  16. I've got child raising duty this weekend (my wife will be at a Mary Kay convention). Fortunately my new Mosaic sets have arrived, so my son and I will work our way through the Capitol Sessions and T/K/M boxes. And we'll probably watch a lot of Spongebob too. The little guy can't get enough of that.
  17. Also, If you're looking for web hosting, I have been using this company for a couple years also. I have a website and a bulletin board I host for my family. It only costs me $20/year for 100mb of space. All my co-worker's sites are hosted here. www.barronhosting.com
  18. I've been using www.godaddy.com for a couple years without any problems. The best part is that the domain name is only $8.95/year. Good luck!
  19. Thanks Sundog! That's great about your nephew. I need to pick up that Brian Setzer DVD. My son loves watching live music. He pretends he's playing the drums. I've already given him three of my guitars. I have them hanging up so he can look at them and be inspired to play. I'll hold the chords down and he strums (in time!). I'll have to pull out the Slim and Slam CDs this weekend. My son already loves those old Speedy West and Jimmy Bryant albums, so this could be something new. :rsmile:
  20. That's great about taking it all in without rushing. I think my downfall came when I tried to get EVERYTHING before it went out of print. My wife used to joke with me that the excuse "it's going out of print" didn't mean anything to her anymore since "everything is going out of print". I truly have found that I enjoy the music much more since I gave up on trying to have everything. One that is good about my craziness in the past is now that I'm married and poorer, I have a lot of great music to enjoy now and in the future.
  21. Noj, You need a CD Ripping program. You might be able to find one at www.download.com. I think programs like WinAmp have a ripper built in (but I'm not sure). Good luck!
  22. Yes, I ordered the T/K/M. I had to do it. My wife is going to be out of town on Friday and Saturday and I'm on parenting duty, so this would be a great opportunity to help develop my 2 1/2 year old son's musical tastes.
  23. Congratulations Wes! I hope I get my sets before this weekend.
