  1. That's great, John! They do ship quick. It's a nice wagon to fall off.
  2. Have a great birthday!
  3. BLOWS has a different vibe than the Crosby album, it's hard to explain, it's sort of science fiction. It's a heavier and angrier record, but It's cool. Crosby does appear on two tracks which are good. I'd say it's worth trying the album. If you can get a copy of the PERRO sessions I mentioned (in a previous post) that would give you a good dose of Crosby and the gang.
  4. My best wishes to Ed!
  5. I'd suggest some Charles Mingus. I don't think you can go wrong with the first Mingus album I ever bought: MINGUS AH UM It was the third jazz recording I purchased and I have a real soft spot for it. "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" to me is worth the price of admission alone.
  6. I listened to SUNFIGHTER again tonight. I really do like some of the songs, especially the track "Sunfighter". I really love the whole trip Kantner was on at this time. I think I'll spend some time with this album this week. BARON VON TOLLBOOTH is my least favorite of the three albums, but the track "Your Mind Has Left Your Body" is one of my favorite tracks from these three albums. A couple years ago I downloaded a couple CDs from www.gdlive.com that consisted of outtakes from BLOWS plus David Crosby's IF I COULD ONLY REMEMBER MY NAME. These albums shared the same musicians and were recorded around the same time. It's called the Planet Earth Rock and Roll Orchestra (PERRO). They're worth checking out. It's nice to talk about this music.
  7. I agree Clem, to me SUNFIGHTER is a lot better than later Airplane. I guess I always compare it BLOWS, which I love so it doesn't fare as well.. As for the booklet of the reissue, it has a few small photos and four pages of liner notes by Jeff Tamarkin. BFrank, the Kantner/Slick CDs I have were remastered in '97, so you may already have them.
  8. Thanks Hans, Now I have a good excuse to pick up the reissue. I LOVE that album!
  9. The thread must have been deleted. It was title "My Brother Karim" and was supposedly started by his brother. Wherever Mnytime is, I hope he is well.
  10. This is silly, but I had one of my recurring dreams last night (it must have been this thread that triggered it). My dream is that I find out that I never really finished high school and I have to go back for a semester. But the bad part is that I have to go back at my age now (35). I hate that dream. I always wake up feeling so old. That's as bad as my dreams get, so I consider myself lucky. B)
  11. I've had the old BN reissue for years, and I never really got into it. I picked up the RVG last week because of JS' thread. I'm really glad I did. It's a really cool record. I find I'm also liking it more upon repeated listenings.
  12. I too like OP (albiet in small doses). I think I take him for granted. My main OP listening is the LONDON HOUSE and the EXCLUSIVELY FOR ME FRIENDS sets.
  13. I really love BLOWS AGAINST THE EMPIRE. I have the original remaster and the recent upgrade. I like the sound of the upgrade better, but they must have used different masters. The lyrics on the track "Let's Go Together" are different. My guess is they are an earlier version. I love the Airplane and I think BLOWS ranks up there with their best stuff. I've probably listened to it more than any Airplane album. SUNFIGHTER is okay to me, but not on the same level IMO. The remaster sounds good, though. As for the other recent remasters, I have BAXTER'S and it sounds great. I haven't heard the new CROWN OF CREATION since I have the old Mobile Fidelty CD.
  14. Welcome to the board, Jamn! It sounds like you're going to have a great weekend. I also hope the rest of the gang here have a great weekend! :rsmile:
  15. That's cool. Even if I don't post, I usually read as much as I can there. This year is going to be ugly and I just figured it would nice to chill out instead of getting all riled up. I think I am one of the few people that have truly had many of their opinions change because of the forum. It has opened my mind in many ways.
  16. Dude, I love it! Keep tuning in for the "STORM REPORTS". If you were in LA, it would be STORMWATCH 2004 with SPECIAL DOPPLER RADAR 7000. Of course, it would only be sprinkling here, but...
  17. Why does that remind me of Ricardo Montalban hawking the Cordoba? Ah... you're thinking of Fine Corinthean Leather Tuscadero.
  18. It's a weird getting used to the change. I think I'll like it, I need to calm down.
  19. Couw, I thought everybody knew Leather Tuscadero!
  20. Your avatar is making you even funnier!
  21. I wish they'd leave it alone too. Just about the time that I get used to the "spring forward" part, it's time to "fall back" again.
  22. I'd also recommend the box set. I bought it as soon as it came out (and I usually wait for things to start "running low"). If that's too pricey, I'd try to find a reissue of his album PORTRAITS. The MAMA CDs that John recommended are good too. I haven't heard his latest CD, so I'm no help there. Also, the Carmell Jones Mosaic Select has some stuff with Gerald Wilson too, and it's an enjoyable set.
  23. I guess we'll have to find a lot of stupid stuff to talk about in the Miscellaneous - Non-Political forum.
