That's good to know. I had considered one of those Danelectro doublenecks from a few years ago. I figured they'd be a lot lighter than a Gibson style one.
-
Update your web site and add the button AB! Oh yeah... I have a link to my design site now. Did you find my old website? I haven't updated that thing in two years. I was wondering if anyone would notice that's where my pictures were hosted.
-
Wow! That would light up a stage. I couldn't take the weight of a doubleneck... ouch!
-
WOW - this is all VERY COOL!!!

That's good about the smilies. I was trying to think of a new way to express myself in my posts. I'd be afraid of what people would think of me if they couldn't see that the smilie said I was just kidding. I guess I'm lucky to be on a cable modem because I enjoy signatures and avatars. I find it's a good way to get to know you guys better and I appreciate links to sites, etc... At least we have the "www" (which links to our personal websites) button with our posts, Michael. I think everyone can see that.

Those are nice vibratos. That Epiphone Flying V isn't that much... I wish.

You turn off the smilies? I speak in smilies... oof! LOL

That's an interesting article. Thanks for posting it Berigan! It's a drag that WKRP won't be released as a DVD. I loved that episode where Les Nessman dropped the turkeys from the heliocopter for Thanksgiving.

Mosaics on E-Bay and the "domestic diva"
AfricaBrass replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Mosaic discs can be made into lovely centerpieces for your holiday table, that's what. Re: Martha Stewart I've never been her fan and she doesn't seem to be a very nice person, but that's hearsay. My issue is that I believe she was a scapegoat. There are so many people who are way more guilty of these types of crimes than she was. I think it's hilarious that she's better off now than she was before she went to prison. If lying is grounds for imprisonment, there's a big line forming in DC. -
Thanks! I bet it's sublime.

I'm glad it wasn't me. I hope you don't lose your enthusiasm for the board, Tony. There are a lot of people who appreciated Denny and his music. That's the important part.

If it was about Esquival vs. Denny, I still see them as different. Esquival was writing large orchestra pieces, while Denny was a nice small group doing bird calls. I enjoy them both for different reasons.

In case someone didn't realize it, I was also kidding about the Kenny G recreations of Ascension and Interstellar Space. Though I have to admit I'd like to hear those for laughs. Guy That was a joke!?! I already placed my order for the Kenny G/Drum Machine Interstellar Space album.

I hope it wasn't anything I said... I dug Denny.

I like Bigsbys, but I can understand why people don't. I just love that shimmer you can get with them. My son hates when I use the Bigsby on my guitar. He hates the sound. He does like playing with the Bigsby (he's 3 1/2). Heck, I'd go for a '58 Korina reissue V anyday. Maybe even a regular ol' '67 reissue... I remember seeing photos of the Kinks in 1967 with Dave Davies playing a Flying V. I've never thought of them as a metal-only guitar. One of my teles has a Bigsby. I think it's really cool. The only weak part is the Jazzmaster bridge on it. It sucks tone.

It's hard to tell from the photo but it appears to be a sunburst finish. The caption says it's from the ALONG CAME JOHN sessions. Thanks Scott. I'll try to find that photo... or buy a Patton Select sometime.

If it was a normal jazz performer, I would have KNOWN it was a joke, but G just doesn't get it.
-
That seems to be a normal kind of reaction when people see it. But....it's a Gibson....and blues licks sound fan-damn-tastic. Shawn, What type of music do you usually play? I see you have varied interests. Are you into the Blues? or Prog? I'm just curious. I have to admit... I've lusted after a Flying V in my time. Especially one of those Lonnie Mack models with the Bigsby.

I'm glad to hear it was a good show, Mark. I look forward to seeing the pictures.

That's a cool guitar. I've never played an Explorer, but I used to have a Gibson Firebird. I'd also like to try out a guitar with EMG pickups sometime. It's really cool having this guitar thread. I love playing and talking guitars.

I found the picture I was thinking of. It's in the Patton Select. I haven't seen that picture. Was it an old Les Paul goldtop? I'd like to see it.

I know Grant Green played a Gibson 330 with P90's. This guitar looks like a 335, but has P90's and is completely hollow inside (like my Epiphone Casino). Here's an old 330:

That's a nice lookin' guitar. Except for the hum, I think soapbars are pretty nice. I have become a big fan of them. I hope you can try a guitar with them out. The way I figure it is; my favorite jazz guitar tone is that 40's Tiny Grimes, early T-Bone Walker sound and since humbuckers weren't released until '56 or '57, the P90 pickups are fine (for me) for jazz.

The ugly, growin greed of being a jazz/music lover
AfricaBrass replied to cool_blue's topic in Offering and Looking For...
I understand where you're coming from, Kevin. I've been there myself. I think the best idea is to follow Jazzmoose's lead and not bother with OOP titles. I know that sounds like a drag, but it seems like all this limited edition and OOP stuff the I really searched for has been reissued again. I remember paying $16 for the Blue Note Collector's choice reissues in the mid-90's. Now it seems like everytime I turn around, another one of those titles is becomming an RVG. Same goes for the Conns. I used to obsess about buying things before they went out of print. Now I don't worry (except for Mosaic sets) because I figure it'll come around again in better sound. If I really have to have it, I'm sure I can find a copy (or someone to make a copy) somewhere. I seriously used to stress about this stuff. I was dumb, this is supposed to be fun. P.S. Welcome to the board, Kevin! -
Your rarest possession in your music collection.
AfricaBrass replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Cool! When I was growing up, my pride and joy was my Beatles collection (this was before CDs). I couldn't imagine getting rid of even one item.
