I lost the reverb on one of my tube amps once. It turned out it was a bad tube. The amp itself didn't sound bad, but I guess that tube helped to power the reverb circuit.

Audio Engineer Charged With Theft of Charles Tapes
AfricaBrass replied to Randy Twizzle's topic in Miscellaneous Music
From what was being thrown around about this on the Steve Hoffman forum, this could be a case of the Ray Charles Enterprises just going after this guy. Supposedly, he checked out tapes to work on them in his home. It will be interesting to see what the truth is. -
I just keep thnking that maybe it just needs a fret job but haven't had it done yet and am afraid if it didn't help it would just be a waste of money. Does the guy mean that the frets need to be treated (filed, etc...) or actually replace frets? If it's replacing frets, that might be expensive.

Yup. I just listened to that Millennium record the other day. But did you know that it came out on 8-track....? I used to have a Yoko Ono 8-track and I'd put it in my old 2XL and play it for people. The 2XL was this robot looking machine that asked questions that were on these 8 track tapes. I got it when I was a kid and it was a lot of fun. But... it was even better with its red eyes glowing while Yoko is shreiking Don't Worry Kyoko.

That's weird... If I were you, I'd get rid of it and get something you really want. I have gotten rid of all my guitars that I had issues (except a couple with sentimental value) that kept me from playing them.

Listen, Dude, not everything moves at Photoshop speed. Good point!

This option is my #1. Too bad the number of sets it has applied to so far is also #1. Yeah... maybe there will be more. Too bad my set hasn't arrived yet!

Man... I wish I lived in Eugene! That's a good library. I visited Eugene in 1994 when I worked/partied at the Country Fair (this was one of the most fun weeks of my life).

This option is my #1.

I agree with Soul Stream, if you like the guitar, I'd get a good setup on it by a good repairman/luthier. I do believe that some guitars are dogs, and there is the possibility that a good setup might not fix it. My concern is: The guitar was already repaired by (it sounds like) a competent luthier. It should have been set up at that time... but changing string guages, etc... could throw the setup off. If you're not really in love with the guitar, you can always sell it for what you paid, since you got such a good deal on it.

My order is: I figure if there's something I really want that's within a year or so of going out of print, I'll go with that title. I've learned to just let some sets go oop. I realize I can't have them all, but if I do want a set that has been around for awhile, I make that my top priority. I haven't done this with very many sets, but this is definitely an option. The fact that these sets will be around for awhile and the fact that I probably have some of the albums in the set already, usually bring the urgency down for me. This comes into play when a set hits running low. I go through all the posts regarding said set and I make my decision whether to pass on it or buy it. I've never done this. I always found other places to spend my money. Also, I'd feel bad if a set was running low and I was buying extra sets for speculation and someone missed out. Knowing myself, I'd sell that set for what I'd paid for it.

Your rarest possession in your music collection.
AfricaBrass replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I'd bid you for it but I'm not very keen... I've already got one, you see... izz vehry nice!! Tip: The gals in the Castle Anthrax say they've got the Buddy Bolden cylinder, but it's really a trap. A wonderful trap, but a trap nonetheless. -
I LOVE Sundazed. I've been buying their reissues. One batch that I've appreciate are those Howard Roberts titles on Euphoria. I have them on vinyl, but I've wanted to get them on cd. I've also enjoyed the Buck Owens reissues; it's been nice being able to get the original albums. The Sagittarius/Millenium cds are good ones if you like late 60's pop.

I'll 2nd that. Used a UHaul for a local move once (just to move some couches, we only rended the truck for 4 hours, for like $50), and I was VERY unimpressed with the truck. Wouldn't dream of using them for a long-distance move. UHaul = Don't get a U-Haul I just saw one being towed the other day. We rented a diesel truck through Budget. It was a new one, so I had no problems. Our second move, we got a diesel truck from Penske. Both worked fine. Those trucks were huge. It was a real trip being at the same level as drivers of big rigs.

The ugly, growin greed of being a jazz/music lover
AfricaBrass replied to cool_blue's topic in Offering and Looking For...
gee, i always come across osby titles in the used bins of the brick-and-mortars. a quick look over at half.com shows zero available for 2.99, inner circle for $5, invisible hand for 4.75, and black book for only 98 cents. where are you looking? admittedly, soweto kinch's lone recording on the dune label is harder to find, but it's there too. Yeh I guess it is all about the place you live. You would have to go far in my part of the UK to find Osby. Che. That's too bad. I used half.com to fill in the gaps of my 90's Blue Note collection. -
Thanks Al! I'm glad you're feeling better.

Happy "Love Day" everyone
AfricaBrass replied to Soul Stream's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Bah. I'm going to pretend I didn't read this post. I refuse to accept that Love Day has any roots in commercialization. I Love "Love Day" and this thread warms my heart. Out of the mouths of babes. Thanks for sharing, Soulstream! Same here. -
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Johnny!!! I hope it's a good one for you.

That's so cool! -
They let Pete Townshend out. You should be fine. Now that makes me sound like something else...... Can you use a different example please. Sorry... I just meant that if they let someone off who really did something... you have nothing to worry about since you haven't done anything.

They could name him Wilbur. At least Prince Charles has one kid already.

Been through this a few dozen times, good luck! The software is much easier to use than it was in with Windows 95.
