  1. Burbank, born and raised.
  2. I have the Collectibles twofer and dig it. Then again, I like a lot of Roy's later r&b/funk tracks too. B)
  3. Just yesterday actually. Company beach party, open bar. One of those "I didn't know I was shattered until I got in the car." Good thing I wasn't behind the wheel. Shitty tequila, gave me a headache. Still feel shaky today. Ugh.
  4. Perhaps it is more comfortable for the creature's recovering stomach to walk upright.
  5. I've said it in numerous other threads, but Wes Montgomery's alternate of "Bumpin' On Sunset" from the Tequila reissue is THE GOODS!

    Black Fire

"Tired Trade" grabs me from the jump and is magnificent throughout--my favorite in the first three times through. Black Fire is the first full-length Andrew Hill album I've heard, I'm very impressed. Point Of Departure is on deck...

Roy Haynes is, dare I say, en fuego here.

    Black Fire

I am listening to this cd for the first time.
  10. I was a big fan when I was in Junior High, but I've found that I've grown to dislike Morrissey's singing and lyrics--which I liked way back when. Marr's guitar work is cool, but the whole depression rock thing has gone stale for me. I can still appreciate it in small doses every now and then, but overall I prefer happier music now. Maybe they can digitally remove Morrissey's voice so I can just listen to Marr...?
  11. Andrew Hill - Point Of Departure Andrew Hill - Black Fire Lou Donaldson - Midnight Creeper Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - Roots & Herbs Jimmy McGriff & Richard "Groove" Holmes - Giants Of The Organ Come Together Jimmy McGriff & Richard "Groove" Holmes - Giants Of The Organ Live Bobby Hutcherson - Stick Up! Lots of listening to do when I get home, I couldn't bring myself to pry Midnight Creeper out of the player!
  12. One of the things I like most about Los Angeles is you don't have to go far for a wide variety of big city/small town/natural attractions. I've never lived in a small town to make the comparison.
  13. I can deal with a little pain, but I wouldn't derive pleasure from purposely inflicting it upon myself or others. I'm not going to bother trying to understand this horrific self-mutilation. This is not an age issue, this is just plain weird.
  14. Good call (as usual) Guy Berger. It doesn't bother me to hear it right after the original. How 'bout the alternate take of "Moanin'" on the Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers album of the same name? I'm interested to know what the musical terminology is that describes the two different approaches of the soloists on each of these. There appears to be a 'delayed' approach to the alternate. I like the original better, but it is an interesting contrast that opens a window to the workshop, so to speak.
  15. I was going to say "one of" but I think this was "The" worst trade in NBA history. All of Lakerland writhes in the agony of immediately becoming a team with no hope of winning the championship. We are sunk, Shaq was our heart and soul. It is definitely over.
  16. "The Creeper" is by The Positive Sounds, one of my faves too. B)

  19. Hey Nate, Catesta, and Big Al--I just got a second copy of BFT14...thanks to all three of you, but one copy was plenty! If anyone wants this extra copy at some point, just PM me your address and I'll mail it out.
  20. Of course, one that I have. What a rip off.
  21. I don't have them all, but of the ones I do have these 5 are my favorites: Donald Byrd - Kofi Grant Green - Alive Lou Donaldson - Good Gracious Brother Jack McDuff - Moon Rappin' Lonnie Smith - Live At The Club Mozambique I need to find a bunch of the Pattons and the Donaldsons, and that Turrentine, and The Right Touch, and...
