A fascinating part of my education concerning US History is that it ended at the outset of the Vietnam War, despite the fact that I was born in 1976. I learned nothing about the historical events from the Vietnam War to the present in public school, everything I know about it I learned voluntarily. It is not an accident. Vietnam lacks a good explanation. The assassination of JFK lacks a good explanation. Teachers lack the perspective to spin things in a good light. Current events show that the US is in a terrible state of turmoil and is reaping what it has sown during the last four decades. The foreign policies and actions of the military of my country during that time frame stand in direct contrast to the principles on which this nation was founded. The actions of our representatives stand in direct contrast to those principles. The actions of Republicans in particular stand in direct contrast to those principles. The hippies and their message of peace and love didn't win...but all the time it has been clear those people were right to challenge our government... There's something happening here, what it is ain't exactly clear. How long shall they kill our prophets, while we stand aside and look? The fascists are in control and winning.

I will be listening to the Motian in my collection over the holiday. Like others, I very much enjoyed reading CT's NPR link. RIP

I have a 160gb iPod with close to 26,000 songs on it, and many of them have images (amounting to nearly a gigabyte of space taken up by images alone). When the iPod is connected to my MacBook Pro it can some times lag when scrolling or when selecting a track to play. Usually it amounts to a brief stall with the little spinning rainbow of death appearing on the screen momentarily. I'm not sure if the images are what causes this little hiccup, but your problem makes me wonder if that's the issue. On its own the iPod scrolls through the music and works without any delay.

Digression thread: Coherence is overrated

As with all racial categorizing, it falls short of describing the individual taste/personality, individual physique/natural ability, family influence, friend/teacher influences, and specific cultural/regional influences which feed a sound. A musician's intellect and identity creates his/her sound and tells us more about that sound than the vague categories of race. Just consider how different as people any two musicians of the same color can be...

Does sound persuade whether you will listen to a recording?
Noj replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I'm most bothered by recordings that are too low, so when I've got the system on random I have to adjust the volume. Needle drop noise and the noise of old recordings never bugs me. -

Soundcloud is really cool. Unfortunately they only offer a limited amount of free space, such that when I uploaded this mix a previous mix of mine became "invisible." There's a monthly fee for more space, which I won't be paying.

This thread is really old, and a strange thing to dredge up for a first post, Gio.
