Kemp is one of the best players in baseball, I'm glad he chose to stay. The Dodgers need to build around him and Kershaw.

Correct, thedwork! Jan is not the leader on the album, but he is manning the keys. Your other guesses caught similarities I'd likely miss, but they're incorrect. I probably should have written down all the discography info, I just had to check one at a time to see if you were right, hahaha. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I put this mix together of a bunch of random jazz and jazzy tracks, I thought it would be fun to share as a blind listen. If this is in bad form or causes offense because it infringes on the selected order of BFT compilers, one of the mods can delete this thread. If anything, it shows another way individual BFT tracks can be masked by merging them into a single mp3, in this case done so with the free software Audacity. Enjoy!

I'm game for a download too, if only to hear more vocalists. It's an area I've scarcely scratched the surface of.

sickening penn state football allegations

You're woefully misinformed, Jon. These are the facts: In 1998, Sandusky was accused of molestation. Nothing came of it but he retired shortly thereafter at the age of 55, in his coaching prime, and never pursued another coaching spot in college or the pros (we know why he was so much more interested in running his "charity"), this despite the fact he had previously been regarded as Paterno's likely succesor and certainly as potential head coach elsewhere if he pursued it. So in 2002, when the events that ultimately led to this current scandal happened, Sandusky was not on staff, but he did have full access to university and team facilities. In the wake of the graduate assistant report of what he saw, Sandusky was simply banned from the facilities. So really there are two issues here: It sounds like in 1998 Penn State knew what his predilictions were, and simply wanted him off the staff, kids be damned. Did he go back to the charity because other schools heard whispering about him? In the same way, in 2002, Penn State essentially said to him "whatever you do to those kids, don't do it on our property again." Shameful. Thanks Dan. -
sickening penn state football allegations

The outrage stems from the fact that the accused pedophile rapist was allowed to remain on staff. If Paterno had any knowledge of the accusations, he should have immediately put that individual on leave until the accusation could be either cleared or proven. So we've got a witness who neither attempted to save a child from being raped with physical force or place a call to the proper authorities (hello, the police); an administrator who didn't conduct a proper investigation (involving the police) and the removal of the accused; and a head coach who kept a man on his staff despite the extremest of accusations against that man. That Paterno offered that he "should have done more in hindsight" is an admission that he knew of the accusations and permitted the accused to remain on his staff. Same goes for the administrator. Hence, both are out. -

I don't see how the gut reaction of the witness wasn't: 1. Immediately call the police. 2. If you're physically strong enough, intervene and stop the rape. Or find a big guy to help you stop it. I'd have been hard-pressed to not assault the sick pervert, and would likely have a Louisville Slugger in mind. -
Had to hear it after that description. Whoa! I'd have guessed the Horace Silver song before the Ornette Coleman.

I enjoyed Mr. Rooney's segments when I saw them, not that I tuned in regularly. He was articulate, grounded, good-natured, and funny. RIP

OK, giving it a go here. I still don't get how our most experienced listeners will identify instrumentalists out of a tune as easy as if they were looking at a photo, but it sure is awesome to read it happen. That's always been one of the things I love about these BFTs, reading the responses and being amazed at how sharp the ears of organissimo forum members are. I at best identify melodies. 1. Nice trombone, I'd guess JJ, but it probably isn't that obvious. 2. Sounds...newer than what I regularly listen to. Something slick about the recording. No guess, but it's really nice. I like the sparse vocals toward the end. 3. I have the Fania compilation OG: Original Gangster containing this great track. My friend's dad played congas in Willie's band, and that friend and his cousin have cool vinyl collections of latin jazz and salsa along these lines. 4. Violin...I'm lost. I like it! 5. Fats Waller? 6. More early music, I have no hope of venturing a guess. 7. Swings like mad, and again I'm totally without a clue how to guess on these. If I don't recognize the tune, it's very unlikely I'll differentiate players. 8. Slow and beautiful and I actually felt emotionally moved by this a bit. Love it. 9. Reminds me of Oliver Nelson's "Stolen Moments" a bit, and that's a good thing. Grabbed me from the jump and I instantly liked it. 10. Whoa, is that a tuba? Crazy energy in the rhythm, I dig it. 11. Fuuuuuuuuuunky! I'll buy it. Harmonica? Piano AND organ? Yeah! It's nagging me like I own it, but I can't put a finger on it. 12. Haven't the foggiest, but that opening riff has that thing that grabs you and makes you want to hear the whole workout until it gets back to that riff, so when it gets there again you're like "yes!" You know that thing? 13. More territory I have no hope of guessing. Recording sounds older than the ideas. 14. Another frantic pace! Off to the races! Haven't the foggiest, but me likey. 15. Has that sort of African thing happening like some Pharoah Sanders or Horace Parlan or Abdullah Ibrahim I have. I love what happens right before five minutes in, not sure how to describe it but I smiled. Bassist kicks butt. I'll buy it. 16. Oh man oh man I love this. What a finale. Reminds me of Jack Wilson. Awesome vibes. I'm not much for guesses, but I sure enjoyed this one, Hot Ptah. Thank you for putting together such a tasteful bunch of music, which will doubtless result in a lighter wallet for me.

I'm surprised the article doesn't mention his nephew Moises, who was no slouch. I guess it wasn't necessary, but I'm sure he was a source of pride for Matty. RIP

Not reading any replies, but I know for certain that track 3 is Willie Colon "The Hustler," a personal favorite from my explorations of the salsa/latin jazz genre.
