rob are you referring to Peace Treaty or If?

I recently picked this up via Amazon for full whack. I can relate to where seeline is coming from, but I like this one alot. Plenty of interesting electric guitar playing- varying degrees of 70's rock influences; some nice horns and strong African percussion. There are several standout tracks and overall strong 75 minutes of music. Next up: African Scream Contest

Is there a better CD version of Somethin' Else than the RVG?
riverrat replied to mtodde's topic in Recommendations
This is one of the RVGs for which the JRVG is a different and better sounding remaster. It is interesting to me how much time was spent comparing Japanese and US RVGs during my early days on the old BNBB group, whereas today most here seem to have forgotten that era, or even that the first several batches of RVGs were remastered separately for US and Japan markets. -
Up, 4 years later......seems to be available on CD now, in a euro version and also Japanese mini-lp. How does Woody Shaw sound on this one?

$13.56 with < 4 hrs to go, this is (currently) a great price on a hard to find CD and a great session. I'll bet you will have a flurry of last minute sniping...

I have ASC on the way to me as I write this.

For those of us who picked up Lloyd in his ECM phase, where should we start to explore his earlier work? Are there particular recordings from his younger years that aren't too out there?
-
Used that one, thanks! Certain 3CD sets also qualify, e.g. the "Playlist Plus" best ofs. These free codes are spoiling me, but if anyone still needs to order more this one ain't bad: 90% off CDs: J9X23 I think it works out to about $4.50/CD with shipping.

My massive list of discs for trade (or sale)

I did not hear back on my PM. I take it that means none of my potential trades were of interest? -

Why would they use anything but WAV files as they are on the original CDs? Good question. There is no need to losslessly compress the WAVs to FLACs if the files aren't going to be stored on a hard drive. So hopefully their CDRs are comprised of WAV files. I would assume they are, but I've been taught to "never assume"...

Depends on the extraction (rip) method used, and the file type of the burns. I find it hard to imagine that Amazon would not use a lossless extractor, e.g. FLAC, but you never know. If they use a lossless extraction and encoding process, the CDR should be sonically indistinguishable from the original CD. But if they are burning using MP3, you very well may be able to tell a difference in playback quality, especially on a good quality system and/or using good headphones. I think its great to have this music available, but personally won't be buying any of these. As others have indicated, until they provide 1) more details about the extraction/encoding process, 2) lossless downloads and PDFs of the album art, and/or 3) lower prices, I'll just keep hunting for the original CD issues.
-
Which would be an easy mistake to make, given they call them "CDs", at least on the header page. I didn't dig too deep but is there any mention of the fact that these are actually CDR burns? Also, is there any mention of the quality and file type? In other words, are they lossless or MP3? IMO Amazon is open to claims of false advertising unless they make it more clear that these are CDRs...

Jazz CD's for sale or trade - 58 titles added 1/12/09

I have Ole from that series, based on advice from you in a 5-year old thread! Yes, these are really hard to find now. Hopefully they'll be reissued again. The Rhino box will do in the meantime...
-
The box is a good alternative if you want more than a few discs. The remastering was done by Gene Paul and the sound is better than on the Rhino DeLuxe series and the many Japanese remasters I've heard. This is key intel. Perfect excuse to buy the box set. Used price looks to be ~$50.

Looking to fill some holes in my Coltrane line-up, with these two titles. Which reissues should I look for? Seems as though there have been quite a few...I have a couple of the 24-bit WPCR series, which I like. Are these the way to go?
-
Please don't lump these two bands together. They are different as night and day. I could take or leave the Beach Boys- mostly leave them- but CCR is sacrosanct!

I'm a big fan. Bought Cosmos right when it came out and worked back from there. I think the 20-bit K2 remasters sound pretty good, but I see what some people mean when they say they are mixed a bit too hot and bright. I've read that the MFSL versions are definitive, but I can't say myself. I think Analog Productions did some too, which I bet sound pretty good.

I wonder if I can sell my "Horace Smith" CD for big bucks on eBay?
-
I got in just under the wire by rejoining BMG about ten days ago. Like many others here (I think) many dozens of my CDs came from BMG. I've been a member off and on for almost 20 years. I made a bunch of orders recently. I've had problems with three of them now. 1. A 3 CD order arrived with only 2 of the CDs, but the order was listed as "complete". I notified BMG and included text from my order confirmation, which correctly listed all 3 CDs. Still waiting to hear back. 2. My copy of Keith Jarrett Live At Montreux contained only one of the two CDs- this is a 2 CD set. 3. Most strangely, in my copy of Horace Silver Further Explorations the CD is printed "Horace Smith". I did a quick search here and didn't find any indication that this problem has occurred previously. This is one of those "Manufactured for BMG Direct" versions, which are supposed to be identical to those available in stores. I guess I can't complain given the prices I paid for these discs, but BMG's service/quality control leaves a bit to be desired. Having said that, it is too bad they are going to fold. It is the end of an era and another indication regarding the future of CDs...makes me wonder once again if CDs will become "collectible" like some vinyl, or just another obsolete technology, like cassettes.

Yup, just used it and then tried again. No go. The jig is up. Fun while it lasted though!

Dude, you better get on it! Ok ok since you guys have been so nice to me lately (), here's an extra special super code: D8E1 - 3 free discs There are 2 really cool things about this code. 1. It's not a one-time only code, so you can use it to your heart's content. 2. It's good for 2 disc sets (i.e. you can order 3 two-disc sets in one order, for free). Have fun - even you, Ron!! Thank you SO MUCH for this code Aggie! I have been binge-ing. My hunch is that this one will expire at the end of the year...

Prefer all you want , but unless you're prepared to argue for the assumptions underlying that preference , don't think for a second that such a preference is morally privileged simply in virtue of whatever emotional appeal it may have . The umbrage you ostensibly take with this constituent’s disputation is eclipsed by the excessively complex nature of your composed rejoinder. I nominate this as THE post of the year. Seconded.
