  1. I'm hearin' it too. Just before the end of Grant's solo. For a change, an extraneous noise on a Grant record that isn't caused by Ben Dixon's squeaky hi-hat.
  2. I saw a mountain lion just last year in a suburban Omaha neighborhood. Just chilling in somebody's yard. Apparently it's a regular problem. Lots of police with tranquilizer guns were in the process of surrounding it.
  3. Quickly scanning the booklet of the Mosaic Clef/Verve set: Jack and Jill Bread Tippin' on the QT Blee Blop Blues Tom Whaley Sent For You Yesterday All are 1952 titles on that in-print set.
  4. I'd never joined a jazz board before this one. Rooster brought me in. I found a few other reasons to stick around. I joined the AAJ board later, only because I wanted to do the trivia quiz. After three years, my post count there stands at 1.
  5. Those Charlie Parker with Mellotron sides were so hip.
  6. Itzy Riskin Howdy Quicksell Chauncey Morehouse
  7. eBay says: MANY OF THESE TAPES ARE EITHER SECOND GENERATION COPIES FROM THE ORIGINAL OR ARE THE ACTUAL TAPE USED TO RECORD BIRD LIVE! The photo looks like a bunch of 3M and Radio Shack reels from the '70s.
  8. Panama Francis Dakota Staton Arizona Dranes
  9. Hey, kids, we sure had a lot of fun in this thread, didn't we?
  10. clark terry promised he'd call this link and never did
  11. Yeah, but his Ascension videos, Edition One and Edition Two, take so long to download.
  12. Tom, you got EXACTLY what you wanted except a bigger crowd. Great playing. Original music, and lots of it. (Only one "cover" all evening, and that was an unconventional one.) A crowd that really LISTENED. And, yeah, lots of good vibes. No reason not to keep going!
  13. I have some of the earlier single releases, and enjoyed them all. Hope these are the same ones in the box.
  14. link
  15. No Phil. Bobby, the drummers and Hornsby. There was a link to a slide show from the event on another site, but I can't find it right now. Will try to find it later.
  16. Features the hit single "Tom's Groove (Winter Remix)"!
  17. Aww, c'mon guys. After all, the "Abstract Truth" band is only one horn bigger than the "Screamin' the Blues" band. I still have phases where I like "Screamin'" better of the two.
  18. In his honor, we'll play "One Note Samba." Without the samba part.
  19. Photo ID: From left, that's Roger Wilder, piano; Tim Cambron, drums; Jake Blanton, guitar; Craig Akin, bass.
  20. Quote attributed to Bloomberg on NPR news: "The gas will pass." (I didn't make this up.)
  21. Zoot was the real star of the Mulligan Concert Jazz Band. He's amazing on the live recording that came out on TCOB a few years back.
  22. Where's Learnnottoplaylicks.com?
  23. The Sony Legacy Web site does an amazingly good job of keeping users in the dark about upcoming releases. Not a word about this one anywhere. Gee, maybe this is a remix project.
  24. In pic #1: I thought the trumpeter was Ted Curson for a sec. Maybe that's because the drummer looks like Dannie Richmond. Is that a really big bass player, or is he playing a cello? #2: Drummer still looks kinda like Dannie. The bass looks like a bass.
