  1. This message from the Hobart Chamber of Commerce:
  2. Worth a purchase. The piece might be too long, but the best things in it are extraordinary.
  3. Addendum to what Chuck said: After hearing nearly a dozen other performances of 960 and loving some, I finally heard Schnabel. Now no other will do.
  4. Finally found Randy Weston's "Destry Rides Again." First one I've seen in 24 years of looking. Just wanted to brag about it.
  5. Ratliff calls Tolliver "a brilliant lead trumpeter." He plays his own leads? Or is Ratliff getting sloppy again?
  6. "Bibbity! Bobbity! Boo! Mama!"
  7. I fear that I've let "Filles de Kilimanjaro" down. I hope that someday it can forgive me.
  8. I'm hearin' it too. Just before the end of Grant's solo. For a change, an extraneous noise on a Grant record that isn't caused by Ben Dixon's squeaky hi-hat.
  9. I saw a mountain lion just last year in a suburban Omaha neighborhood. Just chilling in somebody's yard. Apparently it's a regular problem. Lots of police with tranquilizer guns were in the process of surrounding it.
  10. Quickly scanning the booklet of the Mosaic Clef/Verve set: Jack and Jill Bread Tippin' on the QT Blee Blop Blues Tom Whaley Sent For You Yesterday All are 1952 titles on that in-print set.
  11. I'd never joined a jazz board before this one. Rooster brought me in. I found a few other reasons to stick around. I joined the AAJ board later, only because I wanted to do the trivia quiz. After three years, my post count there stands at 1.
  12. Those Charlie Parker with Mellotron sides were so hip.
  13. Itzy Riskin Howdy Quicksell Chauncey Morehouse
  14. eBay says: MANY OF THESE TAPES ARE EITHER SECOND GENERATION COPIES FROM THE ORIGINAL OR ARE THE ACTUAL TAPE USED TO RECORD BIRD LIVE! The photo looks like a bunch of 3M and Radio Shack reels from the '70s.
  15. Panama Francis Dakota Staton Arizona Dranes
  16. Hey, kids, we sure had a lot of fun in this thread, didn't we?
  17. clark terry promised he'd call this link and never did
  18. Yeah, but his Ascension videos, Edition One and Edition Two, take so long to download.
  19. Tom, you got EXACTLY what you wanted except a bigger crowd. Great playing. Original music, and lots of it. (Only one "cover" all evening, and that was an unconventional one.) A crowd that really LISTENED. And, yeah, lots of good vibes. No reason not to keep going!
  20. I have some of the earlier single releases, and enjoyed them all. Hope these are the same ones in the box.
  21. link
  22. No Phil. Bobby, the drummers and Hornsby. There was a link to a slide show from the event on another site, but I can't find it right now. Will try to find it later.
  23. Features the hit single "Tom's Groove (Winter Remix)"!
  24. Aww, c'mon guys. After all, the "Abstract Truth" band is only one horn bigger than the "Screamin' the Blues" band. I still have phases where I like "Screamin'" better of the two.
