Dear Seller, In our last announcement earlier this summer, we said that Half.com would be closing on October 14, 2004. We have decided not to go forward with this plan and will keep Half.com open indefinitely. Over the last year and a half, our efforts to prepare for a consolidated marketplace for Books, Movies, Music and Video Games on eBay have helped many Half.com sellers transition to eBay, especially during this past back-to-school season. Many of you have reported being successful on eBay while growing your overall sales by selling on both platforms. This has contributed to the biggest back-to-school season ever experienced on eBay. However, with all the growth in the Books, Movies, Music and Video Games categories on eBay, we have not seen a corresponding drop in business on Half.com. In fact, loyalty to Half.com has remained strong as we witnessed yet another outstanding back-to-school season on Half.com. The buying and selling activities of the eBay and Half.com communities have proven that the Books, Movies, Music and Video Games marketplace can be more vibrant with both Half.com and eBay. We have heard from many of you that you want the Half.com site to remain open and to have the option to sell on both platforms. Your input, as well as the data and experience we have gained during the transition efforts, are the basis for our decision to keep Half.com open. There will be no substantive changes to Half.com in the foreseeable future. We encourage you to sell on both Half.com and eBay to maximize your sales, as many of you have already done throughout the transition period. Going forward, we will invest in both platforms and allow sellers and buyers the flexibility to benefit from the unique opportunities they each allow. If you have further questions, please read our Frequently Asked Questions page or attend one of the following live interactive Q&A sessions with eBay and Half.com executives: ? Thursday, September 30 @ 10:00am PT -- REGISTER ? Tuesday, October 5 @ 4:00pm PT -- REGISTER

The program represents a robot named SHRDLU that evinces its understanding partly by verbal responses to its interlocutor, but mainly by carrying out actions at the human's command. http://www.ee.cooper.edu/courses/course_pa...s/EE459/shrdlu/ Shrdlu: Stop your infernal proselityzing!

It's Harpo for me--the only clown that makes me laugh. Harpo kicking his feet in the lemonade. Harpo in the Punch & Judy show. Harpo stamping the custom inspector's head and then throwing his papers up in the air.

Wow! It'll take me to the quadra-centennial to slog through all those essays. Maybe I'll skip them until after the election.

I picked up this Laserlight CD on Ebay a couple weeks back. It's a 1979 live club date in France. If you love 1930s jazz or great swing trumpet players like Roy or Buck or Red then you should check this out. You will not be disappointed.

I heartily recommend Ralph Berton's book REMEMBERING BIX. A Memoir of The Jazz Age to Bixophiles. How much of it is true I can't say, but it a lovely book about a lost time. You can find copies here: http://www.bookfinder.com/

Breyer's Ice Cream
Brownian Motion replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
My other problem with Breyer's is that it's too sweet. I notice this especially with the chocolate, my favorite flavor. I do like their strawberry, however. This week my wife bought me a pint of Julie's Organic Chocolate ice cream. It was outstanding! -

Errors and Contradictions in the Bible
Brownian Motion replied to Shrdlu's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Shrdlu wrote: Re the multiple homicides, do you actually know anyone who's saved and has committed multiple homicides? Former Governor Bush of Texas, who claims to be saved, could have intervened in the state killing of numerous people during his six years in office. That he chose not to, at the least, makes him complicit in state-sanctioned homicide. -
Two fo my favorite post-Django Grappelli efforts are his 1973 reunion with trumpeter Bill Coleman, which is on CD but HTF, and his live album with mandolinist David Grisman.

I actually started out at the Harlem Board, and stumbled on a post there which directed me to the BNBB. I arrived about two weeks before it imploded, but in those two weeks I really liked what I saw. I remember the day when all the BN refugees trooped over to the Harlem Board, where it quickly became apparent that the cat who ran that board was way too controlling to be able to tolerate such an obstreporous mob. Through "word of mouth" I heard about Organissimo. Jazz Corner I found a bit clubby; I like AAJ okay, and post there occasionally, but this is the place I call home.

Teacher Mary Letourneau freed
Brownian Motion replied to brownie's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
You are nuts...She has a mental illness...who gives a flying fuck what her father did, unless he was charged with molesting children? People like yourself believe anything and everything is political. I guess I she try to find out if Scott Peterson's parents voted for Democrats, that would explain everything! Scott Peterson is a piss-poor example, and you know it. How about if it was Gary Condit's daughter? -
Teacher Mary Letourneau freed
Brownian Motion replied to brownie's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Although the media loves this story, they really play down the fact that Letourneau is the daughter of a former ultra-rightwing congressman. Must be that since ultras are family value folks, Mary Kay Letourneau is a forgivable aberration. I doubt a Democrat's daughter would be cut the same slack. -
Happy Birthday! This polar bear is carrying the Mosaic set I bought you. Unfortunately, he's decided to keep it for himself.

Unheralded jazz books
Brownian Motion replied to brownie's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
Ah, the missed oppotunities of the past. There was a time when certain visual artists were being heavily influenced by jazz. Several great jazz books could have been produced utilizing the talents of Franz Kline, David Stone Martin, Stuart Davis, Fred Beck, Jacob Lawrence, Romare Bearden and others who don't come immediately to mind. How about Mezz Mezzrow's book Really the Blues illustrated with original lithographs by George Wettling, limited to 500 copies signed by author and illustrator? I would have paid plenty for something like that. -
Anyone heard this?

I'll second this recommendation. This is a wonderful album.

If you could be a fly on the wall.......
Brownian Motion replied to sheldonm's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I would like to have sat in on the first 1923 recording by King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band: Oliver and Johnny Dodds in their prime and Louis Armstrong's first recording session. Alternatively I'd love to have been there in 1936 when Fletcher Henderson's Band with Roy Eldridge and Chu Berry recorded Blue Lou, Stealing Apples, and Christopher Columbus. -
