be proud of yourself!!!! -
my wife knows what to do. she has to buy cd´s as if i´m still alive!!! if she doesn't do that, i will be back from the dead zone to haunt her...she is very scary about this kind of stuff seriously, i don't have any friend in Rio who likes jazz, my father will be probably dead too so i would donate them to a musical institute or a library whatever. i don't have kids yet so... jazz music is not popular here so an estate sale wouldn't be successful. anyone here would like to be on the will? Marcus Oliveira

new cd´s are very expensive here as regular cds costs from 21.66 till 26.33 USD. that's why i do my purchases from online stores in the US but i can't have them shipped directly to me. paying 100% of taxes is really uncomfortable... jazz used cd´s are available only at 2 places here in Rio so i usually get there stuff that it´s not on my priority list but it helps me a lot with unfamiliar stuff and saves money of course. ebay is another great way for me to get cd´s but i use this only for OOP's or not-to-miss oportunities. organissimo is being a very helpful place too you guys living in the US are very lucky on this side!!! Your First Mosaic Set Purchased
marcoliv replied to Soulstation1's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
mosaic sets are really expensive here, 30USD no matter what they are OOP or not and very hard-to-find too one day the Jimmy Smith set on perfect condition was available for 11USD per disc. a glorious day of course!!! Marcus Oliveira -

Rooster's gonna order from Dusty Groove soon...
marcoliv replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Recommendations
guys, if any of you need brazilian music cd´s please remember that they are very cheap here and that i can send them to you easily!! Jorge Ben - Samba Esquema Novo, mentioned on this thread, is easily found by 13-15 R$ which is 4,33-5,00 USD. even with the shipping costs i´m sure is less than dustygroove. Marcus Oliveira -
my brain is burning but i´m listening now once again both discs after reading the discussion/answers threads T01-i´m not familiar with Moody at all but i don't like when he sings.... T02- i´m happy it´s Woody Shaw and sad too...how the hell i have missed this...and i thought i was a huge Shaw fan...damn!!! T03- i still don't have this BN album but i was quite sure it wasn't Hutcherson so i thought it was something different...a good reason to get Dialogue ASAP!! T04-a big suprise for me...never thought about McLean....still not for me... T05-Mal Waldron is someone that i really should pay attention in the future... T06-ok T07-i do have this one but i can't remember the last time i heard it...it´s good to know that i have a "new" album to explore... T08-never heard nothing about these 2 gentlemen..... T09-i do have this in one of my Ellingtons. very beautiful of course T10-i´m ashamed...i should get banned from this board rapidly.... T11-i was sure to know the song but i don't....never heard about Joe Lee Wilson too... Disc 2 T01-Evans crossed my mind on first intention but then i changed my mind. i need more Evans on my collection... T02-never liked her style but my guess was right...at last!! T03-Bey crossed my mind but i´m not so familiar with his voice. T04-good to know it's Dickerson. the more i hear from you the more i like!!! T05-ECM.......no comments........ T06-how the hell i know this if i have never heard this album?????? the good news are that i´m back on my father´s last will this should be reissued on CD pleeeeeeease!!!! T07-my Weston respect is increasing rapidly lately. good to know about this one T08-Jarrett.....really surprising....i should open my mind a little bit more.... T09-not familiar with this particular Roach but wouldn't mind to have it T10-now i fell of my chair...Getz!!!!?????!!!!!!!!i could never imagine something like that.... T11-Sun Ra..one day i need to become more familiar with him lots of surprises for me. another great experience for me thanks Randy!!!!

Hi John, thank you for your kind offer and i will definitely need help from now on. i know i can count on you and on my organissimo colleagues too!!! all the best Marcus Oliveira

Disc 02: T01-i like this kind of arrangements....makes me think about Sebesky....beautiful tune...i can feel a CTI mood and Creed Taylor producing the whole stuff....i´m loving this a lot!!! is this Benson on the guitar? i love this particular sound of guitar...this is more than great..i need to get this on CD ASAP!! T02-Betty Carter right? mixed feelings on this one....sometimes i like, sometimes not...when the singer is not present it's better.... T03-flute is so beautiful in Jazz music....sarah vaughan is in the house....beautiful song....never heard before it....the male singer seems familiar but....the guitar could be johnny smith or any other white player....now it sounds more like a group...i´m lost.....Sarah clone is not there anymore.....somebody help me....i lost my senses T04-more vibes!!!!! i could listen to something like that for hours and not getting tired...Hutcherson is the vibe player, if not i´ll be surprised.... T05-a pat metheny atmosphere....don't like it.... T06-this sounds familiar....i have this i´m quite sure....god i hate myself.....i can't believe i will not remember what is this....something that my father used to play a lot at home.... now i´m pissed off .....shame on me.....Joe Farrell? i give up...Eric Gale on guitar maybe? this is awesome, terrific, brilliant!!! now it sounds like a Benson tune on CTI.....it is Benson and Airto on percussion....my father will take me out of his will if i miss this T07-good piano technique.....i have heard this before once in my life....this one is interesting...could be Lalo Schifrin and one of his several different projects...Yusef Lateef maybe.....the piano player is awesome....some Jamal on him....maybe too long but it kept my attention till the end...very good! T08-this is from Ivan Lins? very similar to Começar de Novo aka The Island.....i could sing this song easily over it....this is very very good!!!!! i´m curious about this one....percussion is really creative....there's also an Arabian mood....i´m curious yes i am!! T09-i must admit that i´m kinda tired right now but this is good....maybe on my next audition i´ll get it.... T10-sounds like ECM to me....too ethereal for me...ECM & me...the impossible marriage...don't like this one for sure... T11-my ears are happy once again!!! straight-ahead jazz! sounds familiar but i will not take my chances....i´m really tired from the Carnival parade but it´s damn good!!!!!! my overall feeling Randy is that i´m very happy to have your discs, i´m pleased with most of the tunes which is fine considering it´s a double-cd. congrats on your selections!!!!! thank you very much once again Randy! Marcus Oliveira T09-

i´m listening to them and posting my reactions promptly. i´m on the 2nd audition of the discs but the first one really paying attention...here i go... Disc 01: T01-this sounds 40's for me. i do respect any form of Jazz but this is not my favorite style. T02-this one is very good, sounds more recent to me maybe the 80´s. really liked the bass player..bass is always something that i listen to carefully. everybody is playing very well and i like uptempo performances like that. trumpet made me think about Harrell....Criss Cross could have released something like that....probably a composition from the session leader...very good!! T03-vibes, i love vibes!!!nice blues and probably the viber is the leader...i don't have any guess who is....an original composition.....this is also from the 80's/90's probably....i have really enjoyed this tune!!! T04-an afro introduction, reminded me my Ivory Coast days....AEC maybe? i don't like this...it´s similar to a brazilian musical style known as afoxé played mainly in Bahia....not for me T05-challenging and very stimulating...the piano player is the leader of course.....i'm changing my mind, with almost 10 minutes i think this tune would be perfect with 4 or mins max..too exhausting and repetitive... a pity.... T06-did nothing for me...didn't liked her/his singing....where is the forward button T07-cello!!! i like the sound of a cello. the tune sounds familiar but i'm not finding the answer.....just good nothing really special T08-didn't liked this one....i´m not sure what is the idea behind this.... T09-i think i have this on CD but it´s just a feeling....i will not take my chances guessing who is the sax player but i´m sure is one of the giants... T10-this song is so beautiful.....a sweet rendition, lovely piano playing, relaxing sax.....one of my favorites so far....i´m sure i will feel ashamed when i read the answer for not knowing exactly who is playing.... T11-a breath of Santana is in the air....the guitar player is the leader....didn't liked the singer.....i can't remember when was the last time i've heard this song.... will post disc 2 immediately....

now i´m listening once again John's disc after reading all the answers T01 - i´m familiar with the name not his work. the first thing that i can imagine is that i need to put my hands on the Jazz In Paris boxset!! i´m happy it´s from a movie. T02- Max Roach Mosaic set is on my high priority list even if getting Mosaic sets will be much harder for me now another good reason to get the Jazz In Paris boxset. T03-when i mentioned the percussion i thought about Candido but only as a guess. i´m expecting to receive the Elvin set real soon so i´ll be able to enjoy this and many other great stuff from this set. my bari knowledge is really short so Pepper was my first thought but i didn't recognized him. T04-the name is not strange to me but i don't have a clue about this artist. is his work on the same level as this particular track? this is the most exciting thing on the BFT's for me, to be introduced to stuff i don't know. T05-i do respect a lot Jim´s thoughts and musical knowledge and i´m kinda relieved to have not said anything negative about this one i can't believe i didn't recognized the song but i´m pleased to know that one of us is playing on a song compiled on a BFT!! i don't play any instrument and don't have any decent musical knowledge but i do respect a lot any form of music or any musician who can play something. saying that and now knowing that Jim is there i would love to get this CD. Jim please tell me how should i proceed T06-Lucky Thompson is just a name on jazz history for me till now. i don't have any album from him and had never been exposed to his work. it didn't changed my life but it really swings! T07-good to know that Au Privave is played on the beginning of the track since my Parker knowledge is not "that" big but i wouldn´t mind to have this one as it´s part of the Jazz In Paris series...this seems like a voice in my head now.."GO GET THE JAZZ IN PARIS BOXSET,GO GET THE JAZZ IN PARIS BOXSET" T08-another jazz artist that i´m not familiar with and i´m happy that it´s Dewey Redman which was on my list of "artists to explore". now i have something to start! T09-only know these cats by name once again but this is something that i should explore very quickly. my love for this one is still growing after each audition!!! T10-a surprise for me. i´m ignorant on AEC work, sorry if this may offend someone. T11-never heard about this in any form. not my cup of tea really... T12-i've always wanted to get this album for me and i´m quite happy now i have a strong reason to do it. thanks John for encouraging me T13-maybe one day i will find something for me on Dollar's work. i´m not surprised that it's him. T14-i will get this one for sure as i´m collectioning the LPR series and i´m happy that this will be on my hands on a short future. really really nice!! T15-i´m sad i couldn't think about Pepper on this one. i have the huge Galaxy set but never listened to it carefully. maybe it's time for me to do it... John, thank you once again!!!! Marcus Oliveira

it's Carnival and i have plenty of time till Thursday to do what i like...in other words, NOTHING except listen to jazz music. better late than never but i would like to say that i have listened to this one already 7 or 8 times so i´m really enjoying it. obviously i don't have a clue who's playing what but.... i will check the answers (at last!) later T01 - really nice, it seems to be part of a movie or a Schifrin composition. only on the fifth audition i realized that this track was shorter than i thought. i was sure that this was a prologue to the song which in fact is track 02. T02 - it's really the kind of jazz that i like. Musicians playing hard and a nice groove, probably from the 50´s i guess. really liked this one!! T03- another hit for me. nice percussion & beautiful harmony. from the 60´s maybe...i would love to hear the other tracks from this album. the bari player is great and the music itself is very stimulating and made me dance too T04-really nice intro. the bass player really impressed me. something from Europe i guess, i´m not familiar at all with european jazz yet. another winner for me T05-not fantastic but not bad too. i could listen to this on the radio and not change the dial. not too creative but well played. T06-same as track 05 T07-i wouldn't buy this disc because of this song but it's good. a Monk tune after the 3rd minute. big band sound is not my favorite genre but it´s a pleasant track T08-is this Houston Person? nice interplay between the sax and the bass. a nice ballad T09-terrific!!! i need to have this on CD the drummer plays really loud and i like that. very heavy sound. reminds me Liebman but i´m not too familiar with his work. a challenging tune! T10- this could be a CTI session, a funky bass line and an infectious groove. with this lady singing now i´m sure it's not a CTI session but i really like this kind of furious soul music. the lyrics are fine too T11-the worst track on the compilation... T12-really good!! this could be a Criss Cross session i think. i need to check the answers quickly!! T13-nothing for me here T14-i love this song! beautiful intepretation, very inspiring and all i can think is that Monk is really more than a genius. maybe we should split the history of human mankind on 2 different periods: Before Monk & After Monk... T15-beautiful solo rendition of Lover Man. so far, it's my favorite BFT disc. thanks a lot John!!!!!! peace Marcus Oliveira

and i thought that only brazilian women didn't like jazz... seriously, my wife doesn't hates jazz but i´m sure she will never fall in love about it. i have already burned a compliation for her with her favorites and i was really happy to do it. she hears music at her office but mainly brazilian music. at home she is watching TV or sleeping in front of... i don't avoid to listen any kind of jazz if she is at home or not and she knows that i will divorce her immediately if she touches the volume knob by herself if she is watching TV at the living room (my apartment is not that big) i try to keep the volume at a reasonable level. she never complains about the money i spend every month on CD´s and she is very supportive about my CD addiction. she spends the same money buying her clothes or whatever so we're even on this side too. i have tried a lot to educate her on jazz but gave up last year. i guess i´m lucky enough with who i have by my side even if i don't think luck is really involved on our choices with the woman we choose to be with us. we should be very careful on this matter my personal advice about this particular situation is REPLACE YOUR WIFE!!!!!
