  1. i know i´m late, i know i don´t have a clue who´s playing what (and i've avoided to read the discussions/answers before posting this) but... Disc 1: 01 - my favorite tune of the whole BFT4. for me it´s a Monk one and i just loved it. if this is available on CD i WANT it!!! 02 - not my cup of tea 03 - loved this one too. the trumpet reminded me Woody Shaw 04 - i´m not a fanatic for big band stuff but i do respect 05 - JB´s!! 06 - dunno the singer but it seems familiar to me...dates with strings aren´t my favorite ones 07 - nice tune. i´m very curious to know who is playing. it´s a Monk tune i guess 08 - organ stuff. good enough for me 09 - we have a very primitive form of religion here in Brazil known as Macumba. i felt i was on one of their celebrations!!! 10 - not bad, not fantastic 11 - god, how old is this? never connected myself with this genre of music 12 - not my cup of tea at all 13 - just ok 14 - beautiful tune, very west coast for me. i need to check out on the answers promptly... 15 - the tune is well known i guess but i don´t have a clue who is the vibe player Disc 2 01 - too advanced for me.... 02 - really liked this one! who´s playing this???????? 03 - a big surprise! meet with my favorite Marvin´s album on a BFT disc!! just brilliant 04 - the annoying guitar really pissed me off... 05 - very traditional but i do respect 06 - just ok 07 - idem 08 - as i said before, never connected with this kind of music 09 - this is the jazz that i like 10 - oh man this is damn good..i´m hating myself to not identify who is singing... 11 - not bad, not good my overall sensation is that Jim has a wider taste for music and i do respect this a lot. thanks Jim for your BFT!! Marcus Oliveira
  2. i´m 100% collector, 100% listener Marcus Oliveira
  3. right now i would say the Mobley set... but i change my opinion oftenly... Marcus Oliveira
  4. i fully agree! where do i have to signup? Marcus Oliveira
  5. Dan, i haven´t thought about an electronic gift certificate but it can be an option too. i understand all concerns about copyrighted stuff but i think a CDR compilation from our collections wouldn´t hurt anyone, just my 2 cents.. if Jim can handle the signup i´m fine with it and obviously count me in too we need to fix a dead-line and make things move i´m glad some people reacted positively Marcus Oliveira
  6. i was thinking about in a way to celebrate Christmas and all the positive mood emulated by this particular period. as we can´t be together at the same place & time it crossed my mind to do a Secret Santa between ourselves. we can combine the spirit of Christmas, the spirit of this fantastic board with the THING that we love most: jazz & discs (cd's/lp's) exploring this idea i would say that a signup would be required. a member can handle the draw and keep it secret as to be revealed on our following postings and make the results available to each individual through email. it can be a cdr with stuff that we like (not obscurities or rarities dedicated to BFTs) or even a duplicate copy of something great that we have on our collections. like this we won't exclude members who cannot burn a CD. as we get our CD on the mailbox we can post our impressions and i think we will have the feeling that we are sharing Christmas blessings all together just a thought and of course it can be improved Marcus Oliveira ps: i think there is enough time to do that before Christmas
  7. Ceora, Ceora, Ceora!!!
  8. Jim, your ball, your game, your rules i´m more than happy with it thanks for all your great work and long live 2 the Organissimo board!!! Marcus Oliveira
  9. i fully agree with Jazzmoose on this. when my time arrives (and it´s gonna be long i´m sure) i will not have obscurities to include but you will get the stuff that really put me in orbit jazz means freedom for me so let´s keep this spirit on the blindfold test Marcus Oliveira
  10. Billy Childs - Skim Coat Tommy Flanagan - Master Trio Jack Wilson - Something Personal & The Ramblin' Daniel Humair - Baby Boom Stanley Turrentine - Sugar
  11. got this one recently and it´s very very good released in 1999 by a label that i was never aware of (Metropolitan) there are 4 standards and 5 originals. i love Childs since he was on Dianne Reeves band so that's why it got my attention. his Windham Hill releases are very good and IMHO his talent is not duly recognized. Carl Allen is a great great drummer, he interacts very well with Buster and Buster Williams IS Buster Williams! Marcus Oliveira
  12. are there other albums with Jack & Roy playing together? i´m too lazy to do an AMG research... Marcus Oliveira
  13. gary, i have this one and it 's more than great. enjoy it! Marcus Oliveira
  14. Claude, Freddie and Chaka are on Echoes of an Era, Vol.1 for Echoes Vol.2, they replaced Chaka with Nancy and Freddie wasn´t there. the VHS that i have is Echoes Vol.2 and as far as i know Vol.1 was never available on VHS both albums are live concerts maybe i did a mistake associating this particular DVD to Echoes Vol.2 as the lineup is exactly the same minus Nancy and most of the songs are similar Marcus Oliveira
  15. it seems all of us needs Jack & Meade to complete our collections Marcus Oliveira
  16. this is "Echoes Of An Era Vol.2" album without Nancy Wilson performances right? i have this on VHS with Nancy and it´s amazing. hopefully it will be released on CD soon as Vol.1 is now available with Chaka. Marcus
  17. i´m kinda like you Rooster i´ve started my life listening to jazz and when i moved to Africa, reggae became my favorite style. later i´ve switched to Funk until 1985 when my Prince addiction started heavily. at the same time i was impressed with Sting´s first solo output and by the british pop. back in Brazil by the beginning of the 90's, i was only listening to Prince until 1995 when i was introduced to Salsa. on 97-2000 i´ve build my CD collection on the Funk side and my Prince dependence reached its heights. on year 2000, at last my jazz fever came back and nowadays i only listen to jazz, occasionally some Funk and Prince took a nap on 2003. Marcus Oliveira
  18. just listened to it once again and sadly the fade on Sidewinder is real thanks Conn500 for reminding me that Jack is on Katanga. will hear it tomorrow at the office my cd has Pensativa on the back cover...hand-writed by the previous owner.... Marcus Oliveira
  19. my dear daniel, i would include Naima, Stolen Moments & Work Song. all of them worked very well with my wife and don´t forget to include Pearson on your disc Marcus Oliveira
  20. got this one last saturday and it´s really good released by Fresh Sound, the sound is OK but there is one track missing on the booklet and back cover, hopefully is on the disc my only exposure to Wilson´s work was with his Connoisseur release and it´s good to have Roy Ayers playing on a jazz mood. Monk Montgomery is also there and the drummer i can´t remember now. they play only standards and their rendition of Stolen Moments is great. Marcus Oliveira
  21. Eric Reed - Pure Imagination The Complete Blue Note and Capitol Recordings of Fats Navarro and Tadd Dameron David Hazeltine - The Classic Trio Burton CoreaMehteny Haynes Holland - Like Minds Dee Dee Bridgewater - Love And Peace
  22. for me it´s brilliant too last time i was in the US i got it on DVD and i can´t get enough of it when columbia re-released the CD sometime ago i was convinced that we would have some unreleased stuff such as the marvellous Chan´s Song played by Dex, Freddie, Ron & Tony or the full ensemble by the end of the movie. the last words of Dale Turner on the movie are fantastic for me when he says that maybe one day we will have plazas, avenues, squares & etc glorifying the jazz masters. maybe i should see it again tonight Marcus Oliveira
  23. Kenny for me Marcus
  24. b3-er, please add me up too i have nothing to say or know about US politics Marcus Oliveira
  25. hi jim, just checking if you got any of my 2 emails and that you have me on your list thanks Marcus Oliveira
