my life wouldn't have a meaning without Prince i´m so happy that the "regular" audience is enjoying his last album. i think when he'll be dead (and i hope i´m gone before him) some of his underrated albums will be much appreciated. well, i haven't voted on this one as the options are not bad at all but they don't truly represent what is Bossa Nova. i was sure that Jim would recommend the Gilberto one. it's a milestone so it´s the one to get to be duly introduced to Bossa Nova. this morning i was listening to the first 2 albums of Jorge Ben (Samba Esquema Novo & Sacudin Ben Samba) and Brandon is also on the right way suggesting Samba Esquema Novo (easily available here) i was lucky enough yesterday btw getting some OOP albums from Jorge such as Solta o Pavao, Força Bruta and many others. a great singer of Bossa Nova is Pery Ribeiro, the son of 2 masters of the Brazilian Music, Herivelto Martins & Dolores Duran. his album "Pery Muito Mais Bossa" is one of my favorites. the same album is available with english lyrics so be sure to get it in portuguese. of course Jobim should be the next step. Jim knows more than me about this so just follow his indications Marcus

my parents are having a hard time to renew their passports as the local authorities are on a long strike. they already have their tickets but they need the passports in order to get the visas (assuming that US consulate will deliver them) so their travel is not 100% confirmed. the good news are as they can´t get a refund as the tickets are promotional ones, i may have to sacrifice myself and replace them i will have this confirmation within this week Marcus

marcoliv replied to Kevin Bresnahan's topic in Re-issues

i have some Lightsey in my collection but not this one. my wish list is getting bigger & bigger as i´ve included Doug Carn too! i know it´s written like this on Wayne's album but it´s wrong. "Depois do Amor, O Vazio" is the right way. congrats once again Rock for this great compilation! Marcus Oliveira

i have listened to this 4 or 5 times and i´m really enjoying it thanks a lot for this great compilation. of course i can't identify players or songs.... track 1 - really interesting. the bongo player is quite good. i´m quite curious to know the answer of this. track 2 - for me the introduction is a Brazilian music known as "Só Louco" but i´m sure it is not. this could easily have words in Portuguese if it was the case very nice tune, even if the piano player is humming all the time the song and this really annoys me a little bit. the drummer seems familiar to me but i don't have a guess. track 3 - this one is terrific!! i NEED to have this! what a nice bass solo...the main theme is very catchy track 4 - my favorite version of this one (Dad's Delight) is from Nnenna Freelon on her third album. on this BFT, i felt in love instantly with this one because of the vocals and the whole arrangement. astonishing for me!!!!! it reminds me Larry Young on the organ...i love more & more the organ sound this is AWESOME!!! track 5 - a samba mood here it´s good, good to relax after getting wild with the previous one track 6 - this voice is familiar....i liked this one a lot....i love when the bass is really present track 7 - nice intro!!! something in the Eddie Gale domain for me. after the chorus vocals i didn't liked that much... track 8 - did nothing for me track 9 - one of my favorites of the compilation specially the piano parts track 10 - this is "India", a genuine Guarânia from Paraguai. never could expect to hear this on a BFT compilation!! what a big suprise! track 11 - not my cup of tea in the beginning but after 1'15" i think it´s quite good track 12 - .... track 13 - did nothing for me too track 14 - this could be R.E.M. rehearsing didn't liked it track 15 - yeaaaah! who sings this? loved this version BFT´s are always so nice! 5th Chivas Jazz Festival i´m quite excited with this new edition. i was lucky enough to get my tickets for the nights of May,5th&6th. Bud Shank Quartet / Louis Hayes & Cannonball Adderley Legacy Band Andrew Hill Trio / Sheila Jordan & Steve Kuhn Trio when i was paying for my ticket i could only think about Rooster as Andrew Hill will be performing for the first time in Brazil. i dunno what to expect from Andrew right now but i´m sure i´ll feel the presence of Rooster in the house Marcus Oliveira

i´m a Harper Brothers fanatic. Dave, get the "Live At The Village Vanguard" album from them. the best one IMHO. i had the chance to discuss with Stephen Scott last year, when he was in Rio playing with Ron Carter, and he was really surprised to learn that i love his work since he was playing with the Harper Brothers. yeah Dan, this would be the best but i have already talked with Cindy (Mosaic) about the possibility to have them delivering the package at the hotel where he will stay (in Downtown). the thing is that he will stay up to 5-7 days so there´s room for something bad to happen... i need to run an application for a job in the US and stop bothering you guys with all my troubles Marcus

thanks guys for your rec´s. Blue Note Records should be the one then as the Virgin Megastore. last time i went to Miami i´ve been there and on the Coconut Borders too. i remember that i´ve looked for a Tower store but didn't existed. i wasn´t SO addicted to jazz at this time so that´s why i had the idea to ask about it. if there´s any member of Organissimo living in Miami it would be very helpful as i´m planning to place a huge order with Mosaic. thanks once again dear friends Marcus Oliveira
