I just got my copy of Hubbard's READY FOR FREDDY from the recent batch of RVGs I had never heard this disc before but I like early 60's Freddie so needless to say I love this session. Not a big surprise. What I was suprised about was the sound! This one sparkles even on my crappy jambox and in my car. From the first note I noticed how great this one sounds. Clear, audible bass, crisp cymbals and Freddies tone coming through as if he were in my backseat. By the way, what is this euphonium on the disc? I thought a euphonium was closer to a tuba or baritone. This sounds more in the range of a trombone. I would have guessed valve trombone.

Why does someone pay $16 plus shipping for an in print RVG?
-
All the latest RVGs have appeared!! Unfortunately I've gotten almost all of them already. (just ordered Ready For Freddy a couple days ago.) When I buy them they appear, if I wait to see if they are going to get them they don't (ie the last two batches.) This is really pissing me off!
-
That's good advice but about 14 months too late!! When this one get mobile in the next few months, I really think we're going to be in trouble! My wife and I will have to change our defense from man to man to zone coverage.

Attention Greazy Texans, (I just love saying that) Righteous Buddha will be playing at THE FLAMINGO CANTINA in Austin, Texas on July 17th. If you got no plans and want to get down with some butt shakin', check it out. Big Al, I can't promise they'll ever make their way to Dallas so this might be your chance to see them. If you go, introduce yourself to the bassist, Dave, and tell him I sent you. RB website Samples from their first disc are here

If the bidding gets too high, there's a copy of A Man With The Horn on Half.com for $8.99
-
Three? I've placed 22!! I'm actually thinking about bidding on discs I already have! (My condition worsens by the day. "MUST HAVE BLUE NOTES! MUST HAVE BLUE NOTES!")
-
I was laughing about that Blues For Lou, there's a copy on Half.com for under $11 bucks. I actually was going to let you know but I saw on the old thread that Big Al hooked you up.

Do we know a Tom Larson? That name is very familiar. Here? BNBB?
-
Here's all of 'em. Elise, Lisette, and Sophie
-
Here's our latest. Already 5 months old!
-
I wouldn't say that too loudly. The walls have ears you know. The record industry is already pissed enough that you copied it, and selling it is over the top even for proponents of music swapping. They might just make an example of you!

Hate to break it to ya, but... In and Out is due for RVG release Aug 10. It will be available for that price new, upgraded and shipped to your door from deepdiscountcd.com.

No really, that is a picture of someones coronary arteries! Why that's on a jazz cover is beyond me. 1 aorta 2 right coronary artery 3 left main coronary artery 4 left circumflex coronary artery 5 left anterior descending coronary artery It's really a beautiful example as you hardly ever see that much detail of the smaller vessels.
-
Whose coronaries are those on the cover?

I'm going for the Blue Mitchell and the Dexter Gordon first. (I'll be back for the rest later.)

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
scottb replied to AfricaBrass's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Yes, DrJ. Patients with ADHD show symptoms by school age, but 2 1/2 is a far cry from school age. Development is so rapid at this age that a year or two imakes a big difference. For example: My 2 year old (3 in October) meets all the following criteria a. Often fails to give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes in schoolwork, work, or other activities (in fact my child doesn't even do schoolwork - her case must be severe!) b. Often has difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or play activities (haven't met a 2 year old who could) c. Often does not seem to listen when spoken to directly (haven't met a 2 year old who did) d. Often does not follow through on instructions and fails to finish schoolwork, chores, or duties in the workplace (not due to oppositional behavior or failure to understand instructions) (see letter a, chores? Workplace?) e. Often has difficulty organizing tasks and activities (my child has never organized anything - again, must be severe!) f. Often avoids, dislikes, or is reluctant to engage in tasks that require sustained mental effort (such as homework) (see letter a) g. Often loses things necessary for tasks or activities (toys, school assignments, pencils, books, or tools) (just this week my child lost her doll!) h. Is often easily distracted by extraneous stimuli (like every other 2 year old) i. Is often forgetful in daily activities (can't really say because my child doesn't have the verbal skills to relate what she remembers or not) I could repeat the exercise with the hyperactivity and impulsive criteria as well. The key to diagnosis in young children is the following phrase: " to a degree that is maladaptive and inconsistent with developmental level:" That's a very subjective statement, especially in a 2 year old. Deveopment at this age is very variable. Which is why I suggested they wait a year or two and see what happens. The following are also needed for diagnosis: B. Some hyperactive, impulsive, or inattentive symptoms that caused impairment were present before age 7 years (this is ridiculous to include as everyone on earth displayed these symptoms prior to age 7) C. Some impairment from the symptoms is present in two or more settings (such as in school or work and at home) D. There must be clear evidence of clinically significant impairment in social, academic, or occupational functioning How do you get "clear evidence" that a 2 1/2 year old has impairment in social, academic and occupational functioning? (By the way, the site you linke to was by E.J Mayeaux at LSUMC. Is that a coincidence or did you train there? I was there from 1992 to 1998 and worked with Dr Mayeaux as a student. Small world huh?) -
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Africa, I'm not a pediatrician but I am an internist and treat adult patients with ADD on occasion. Before I prescribe meds for this condition I require formal testing by a trained psychologist. I never treat on recommendation from parents or teachers. ADD / ADHD are real disorders that can often be controlled with treatment whether behavioral or medical. It is overdiagnosed IMO and many children with a healthy amount of "energy" are being medicated, sometimes at the request of the teacher not a qualified medical professional, just to "keep the peace" in the classroom. My greatest concern for you and your child is that this diagnosis is being made at three years of age. In my opinion, this is probably too early. Most three year olds display characteristics of this disorder. I would consider behavioral treatments which can help whether this is ADHD or not and watch him for a couple years. I probably wouldn't consider any medications until the child is school age and starts to have problems in the classroom. Definitely seek out additional opinions. Good luck! -
It's simple, if Rooster and Moose are the same guy, then he has posted 11,209 times which puts him 4415 more post than JSNGRY which I think we would all agree is clearly impossible. Case closed.

GIGOLO! GIGOLO! GIGILO!

Yeah, the recording is a bit rough. (Anytime a TV is involved in the mastering process there's going to be trouble. ) The transition from funk to swing is kinda like going from pickles to ice cream. But on their own each section was pretty cool. Keep it up! By the way, are you also playing in the band or did you only compose the music?

This group is so bad most of you won't even know them. But I used to really like and actually still enjoy an occasional spin from DEAD OR ALIVE (of You Spin Me Round fame.)

I disagree, I think Arsenal could improve on this season. They only ended up with one piece of hardware despite this amazing achievement of no losses in league play. Next year they'll be gunning for the FA Cup and Champions League as well. I think it will be great to watch them next year. I doubt they improve on the season (how could you?) but I think they'll make a run at "the treble." Chelsea continues to amaze me. Did they pick up Smith from Leeds? How many strikers do they need? Why do they think the strikers are to blame for their situation? Gudjohnsen, Hasslebaink, Crespo, Mutu and now Smith? They obviously have the ingredients they just need to let the team alone and mature together instead of getting new players at every opportunity and disrupting the chemistry of the team.

Pompey = Portsmouth (I don't know why)

Well, it's all over but the crying now. Arsenal undefeated! Truly an amazing feat! Liverpool in 4th. Wolves, Leicester and Leeds United gone. My adopted team Fulham with a pretty good finish to finish 9th (highest ever for them) Americans in the League- Brian McBride finishes strong in the starting lineup for Fulham with 2 goals in the finale. Proving that he can be a force in the EPL. He had 5 goals with really fairly limited playing time. I'm not sure he's a good fit at Fulham however, they seem desperate to play with a lone striker and use breakaway speed to counter (ie Saha) but they really have the personel to play more of a build up game and McBride could play a big part in that. I hope Steed Malbranpue stays as he is a real talent. Glad to see Tim Howard back starting for Man United. I'm not sure what happened for him to lose the spot in the first place. Friedel is hurt I think, hope nothing too serious.
