  1. This thread is only about 5 hours old! How have you already picked up five of these titles. (I need this kind of service)
  2. I've been having fun listening to the Dirty Dozen Brass Band - BUCK JUMP. I can't seem to get it out of rotation. Always finds it's way in to the CD player of my car. My girls love to dance around to this one at the house as well.
  3. This is where the band updates us on the progress of the much anticipated Tribute disc. (No, we haven't forgotten and we're not letting you guys off the hook.) WE WANT MORE ORGANISSIMO AND WE'LL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET IT!!! (As you can see by this angry mob, I mean business!)
  4. I second BLUE TRAIN, it's very melodic, which as mentioned above is more acceptable to the jazz newcomer. Great exposure to Lee Morgan and Curtis Fuller as well as Coltrane. This one did it for me! Now I'm addicted to that classic hardbop Blue Note sound. Unless he has an interest in the organ I would steer clear of the B3, even Jimmy Smith (sorry B3er.) Although I'm a certified greazehead, B3 nut, it took a while to warm up to it.
  5. Have you ever been in a Turkish prison?
  6. I think that turban guy was on the home version for Nintendo. I was champion of the standup arcade game.
  7. Sorry Joe , of course I meant you. I knew your name was Gloss but it's one of those things when your typing and your fingers don't type what you're thinking. I guess its some sort of Freudian slip. (So I guess subconsciously I think of your playing as fragile and transparent. ) Does anyone remember Glass Joe from Punchout! fame? I used to beat the hell out of that guy! Trivia: opponents from Punchout! Glass Joe Piston Hurricane Bald Bull Kid Quick Pizza Pasta Mr Sandman (champion)
  8. Joe, I thought you might like seeing your name in that list.
  9. That's one reason I went with the Epiphone Broadway, it's the most affordable model I found with spruce top and maple sides. Most lower priced models have maple tops.
  10. Definitely better than From The Cradle, which got very little listening from me, and I like Clapton doing the blues. His vocals are more convincing on these Johnson songs. Still my favorite Johnson song by Eric is Malted Milk from Unplugged.
  11. I don't think Ibanez can be grouped in with the "cheap" guitars. Many top players use them (Joe Pass, George Benson, Pat Metheny, John Scofield, Joe Gloss) I'm sure they could play Gibson's if they wanted to and I'm sure they do, as well as other makes. That was really my question, I don't know how much quality was dropped to get the price down under $350. My guess is too much, but I don't know because I've never heard form anyone who played one. As for Epiphones, I've got a great Epiphone Les Paul that after a pickup change competes with any Les Paul I've played. I played an Epiphone Joe Pass once in a guitar shop that was "buttah" My archtop on the other hand, not really up to snuff, but for a guy who plays in his bedroom for a maximum crowd of 4 (wife and 3 kids) on occasion, even I can't justify a quality archtop purchase (much less my wife.)
  12. If they play well and sound good, I'm going to kick myself. these came out just after I bought my used Broadway on EBay. I only paid about $250.
  13. Anyone played any of those Ibanez Artcore archtops? Ibanez makes some mean archtops including the aforementioned big MF Joe Pass used to play. The artcore series looks great and are priced well, I'm just not sure how many corners they've cut to get the price down. A new one from Musicians Friend costs only about $325.
  14. I have finally got my Epiphone Broadway back from the shop. I bought it on EBay for pretty cheap to inspire me to play more jazz. I couldn't quite get rid of all the buzzes so I had a "master luthier" have a shot. It is playing much better now. So... LET THE JAZZ BEGIN!!! I'll probably upgrade the pickups if I keep playing. Then maybe a better amp. Currently using a Peavey Classic 50 combo with 4 10s. It's been a pretty versatile amp for me over the years.
  15. I guess I won't mention the Charlton match (ouch) And for Greg's sake I won't mention the Southampton v Boro match As for me the Fulham match was very exciting. I'm not that close emotionally to the team to be that disappointed at the result. I'm a bit disappointed for McBride though, who really looks pretty good when he sees playing time. Collins John is really making a name for himself. Another 2 goals and a great play to help Boa Morte score the third.
  16. Let me know when October gets here. MLB plays so many games I can't get too excited until the end.
  17. Wouldn't want to pollute the Pacific, why not just pile them up on the doorstep of 3427 Jasper Lane.
  18. I'll vote for Rudy but I think it's not a Ron vs Rudy for me as much as an old release vs a 24 bit release. I think Ron's recent releases on 24 bit format are much better than the "old" McMasters as well. However, I think Rudy is more consistent in his output than Ron.
  19. Mine are done and "Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus!!!" To the tune of nearly $60,000!!!!! I should be hearing from the IRS auditors any day now but my accountant says it's legit. I hope so because I really don't look good in orange.
  20. I was glad to see Fulham win. Collins John, that new young striker from Liberia came in to replace Hayles, whom I'm not too fond of, and scored 2! He may be Saha's replacement and give them the offense they need. McBride entered at around 70 minutes for Malbranue in midfield so I'm not sure if there was some rearranging of players or not. I hope McBride works out for them.
  21. It's a good thing Henry was injured for the Liverpool match or he may have scored 12!! The game I got this AM was Chelsea vs Middlesborrough. 0-0. Didn't look like the same Chelsea who beat Arsenal at all. Actually MB had the better chances and Chelsea is probably lucky to get 1 point. It will be hard to catch Arsenal playing like that.
  22. BERIGAN, the new one is much better. By the way, does anyone know how to enlarge an avatar to full screen?
  23. I alway thought BIG RED was supposed to cinnamon.
  24. Could you please change your avatar? I find it very distracting. I am unable to even read posts on pages where it is found. I am rendered powerless by the rhythmic gyrations of this young woman which have been refined in strip clubs through the years to have this particular effect. Curiously, I have also found myself leaving one dollar bills on my keyboard when her image is present.
  25. I'm just the opposite about cash. Money in my wallet is as good as spent anyway so why not spend it on CDs. Cash purchases are under the radar as far as my wife is concerned and they don't get counted toward my CD budget. (I'm getting a strong urge to head to the ATM as we speak.)
