  1. I had Cinnamon POPTARTS for breakfast this AM and you can't tell me there is no change. I may need to ship a couple TARTS to them for more in depth analysis. I can seriously barely stomach the "new" ones.
  2. I've been eating POPTARTS (no off brand substitute toaster pastries excepted) since I was a kid. Now that I have kids of my own I'm back to eating them a couple times a week for breakfast. My favorite is Brown Sugar and Cinnamon. The last two boxes we've eaten have tasted different. I'm talking about a MAJOR recipe change in the cinnamon filling. At first I wrote it off as a bad batch but now the second box confirms my worst fears. This is worse than the new Coke fiasco! Has any one else noticed any variances in other varieties of POPTARTS?
  3. Some of the band members from various groups on BANDS REUNITED claimed they hadn't played in years and even one drummer stated he didn't own a drum set. I suspect this is a general disclaimer about their current abilities and is not to be taken literally. I think it would be very odd for a musician of that level to walk away from his instrument just because his band broke up. I had heard similar claims about George Harrison before his comeback in the late eighties and found it hard to believe. I miss playing guitar when I can't find the time and I SUCK.
  4. Did anyone else see them on VH1s Bands Reunited? It's a pretty interesting show where they try to to reunite old bands with mixed results. Although I wasn't a big fan of any of the bands featured, it is interesting to see these guys come back together and interact after years of not seeing or even talking to each other in some cases. I guess the Alarm enjoyed their reunion and decided to make a go of it. Good for them.
  5. I look forward to hearing more great music from Small's. I really enjoyed the JAZZ UNDERGROUND: LIVE AT SMALL'S disc. It made me want to move to NY so I could go hang out, drink lemonade and listen to great jazz all night.
  6. It's not that I'm opposed to buying rock, its just there hasn't been much rock I care to buy in recent years. My last few rock purchases are things like FORTY LICKS, BLACK CROWES GREATEST HITS, BLACK SABBATH, Jimmy Page and Robert Plants latest effort. About the last new rock band I liked was Pearl Jam. Couldn't care less about Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Stained or any of these other wuss bands. Creed sounded like Pearl Jam so why bother. Come to think of it I did like that song by that "super group" with the drummer from Nirvana (not Foo Fighters) the one with the deer driving around with the band on the hood. Can't think of the name.
  7. I used to swear off the Mosaics because I was afraid of its crack like qualities and with so many out of print if I got hooked it could get ugly. Besides there is sooo muck music I don't have that I don't feel the need to get the rare stuff yet. Although I still don't own any "full" Mosaics for the same reasons above, I do own all but two of the Selects. The marketing guy who came up with this nailed me. Here's a new series which is affordable with great music that is not readily available and I can start with Volume 1 and collect them the way my OCD demands it. The upcoming batch may break that streak as I'm not too interested in these titles. I sure that will change just like the Curtis Amy which I now feel I must have after reading everyones high praise. My advice to others... just say no!!
  8. I just got my copy of GET BORN by JET from BMG. This group is the real deal. They do the STONES better than the STONES are currently doing the STONES. I hear some WHO and KINKS and BEATLES as well. Good stuff! Add them to the list of BLACK CROWES, LENNY KRAVITZ...(pretty short list) of artists making real rock these days.
  9. This $5 deal sounds good to me! I've been doing some listening lately and have found some interesting stuff. This special will likely have me buying several discs.
  10. The Chappelle Show with Rick James is on RIGHT NOW. Do yourself a favor and go check it out on Comedy Central
  11. Anyone a fan? Last night I saw the show where the whole show was dedicated to Charlie Murphy's (Eddies brother) true Hollywood stories in which he relates anticdotes about he and Rick James. They actually had Rick James on the show and he seemed to be verifying the stories, which were hilariously reenacted by Dave Chapelle ("I can't believe I'm here talking about Charlie Murphy kickin' my ass.") They kept inserting this clip of Rick saying " Cocaine is a helluva drug." Is this really Eddie Murphy's brother and are these stories actually based on truth? On another episode Charlie Murphy and his crew take on Prince and the Revolution in basketball and get blown out. "It's shirts vs blouses." Then Prince cooks pancakes.
  12. No Django, Joe Pass, Charlie Christian, Kenny Burrell ... but a George Benson? I love Benson's work with Lou Donaldson and Lonnie Smith but more essential than Django? I think not. Porgy and Bess and Tutu but no Bitches Brew, Walkin', Steamin', Relaxin', Workin', Musings, Walkin'? NO BLUE TRAIN?
  13. Just spotted some of the latest Conns on BMG Sam Rivers, Charlie Rouse and Larry Young Why do they always seem to carry the ones I've got and not carry the one's I need? In this case I haven't got the Mobley or the Andrew Hill yet.
  14. Looks like the 3/9 RVGs are available at deepdiscountcd.com. I just ordered Sweet Honey Bee and Goin' West. Less than $10 each - SHIPPED.
  15. Enjoyed the show last night. A funky time was had by all. Two bits of advice for the college kids: 1 smoke less 2 bathe more!
  16. Tonight I'm going to go see Galactic at one of the college hangouts. I saw in the paper today that the Robben Ford show had to be cancelled because of illness at a venue across the street from Galactic. Galactic and Robben Ford on the same TUESDAY (!) night in February in Fayetteville AR. Who'da thunk it? Maybe NW Arkansas isn't going to be too bad musically after all. The Walton Arts Center (as in Sam "Walmart" Walton) is here which gets acts much better than expected for a city of about 60,000 (I think about 250,000 when counting Bentonville, Rogers, and Springdale which are growing together into a big MEGACITY!) Of course the area is supposedly booming with a predicted population of 800,000 in the next 10-20 years.
  17. Every time I listen to the title track (both versions) I hear a new bass groove. The bassist is changing his groove constantly and all of them are FUNKY and each worthy of their own song.
  18. Relaxin' by a nose over Workin' by a hair over Cookin' barely inching out Steamin'
  19. Me too!! Because of this board I went from not really wanting the Curtis Amy Select to feeling my life is not complete without it! That reminded me of my wife's previous opinion that the BNBB was made up of Blue Note employees who were there to generate interest and get suckers like me to buy their music.
  20. These type discussions, besides revealing how little I know about chord theory, also make me curious about the jazz musicians of the 50s and 60s. Obviously, some were well educated musically (Miles studied at Julliard for example) but so many were self taught and learned their craft on the juke joint circuit I wonder what their response to the question would be. "Huh?", "F--- you man just play the s----!" or " You dumb mother, it's G7#9!" Do you think most of them would be able to follow this or not?
  21. I know there is a "film" thread but I don't think this qualifies. This is no great cinematic work but it's a good rental and was probably even better at the theater but I didn't catch it. I highly recommend OPEN RANGE for anyone who digs westerns. I enjoyed it so much I rented it twice in the same week. (NEVER done that before) It's not earthshaking cinema and follows the basic predictable formula of the western but still enjoyable. Maybe in my top three of modern westerns with Unforgiven and Silverado.
  22. Anybody else having trouble with their SHOPPING CART on the BMG site? I can browse and navigate around the site but when I go to my Shopping Cart it is a blank page. It's been doing this for several days and I keep waiting for it to correct itself but so far no dice. I've got some free ones coming and I can't see my cart to order them! I NEED MY FREE DISCS!!
  23. Just got a special offer from BMG for the new Nora Jones disc. Now that's weird!! I have never seen them offer a new release like this.
