If my memory serves me correctly, Black Fire is the first session on Hill's Mosaic set (I'm in the office now and can't check it). IMHO, one of the best Mosaic sets ever. If you have the opportunuty to put your hands on this oop set, don't hesitate.

I am not an expert on Israeli jazz, but in my humble opinion the best jazz musician currently plays and lives in Israel is Daniel Zamir. He is a young guy (24), he sound great (alto & soprano sax), he is very original and not trying to be something he is not. So far he recorded three albums on Tzadik an I am sure he has a very promising future.

Last time when I went to this festival was in 1995. During the past 9 years there were no attractions that could justify the investment of time & money. Unfortunately I have some other commitments (to my boss and to my wife, my other boss) so the jazz fans coming to Eilat and the artists will have to get along without me.

I live all my life in a relatively big city: Tel-Aviv, and I like it. In the past I spent one year in Texas: 3 month in San Antonio and all the rest in El-Paso. El-Paso is a small city in the middle of nowhere and a very boring place (but you can always cross the border to Juarez…). In general, I prefer the big cities over the small ones.

I can't find anything special in his playing. many years ago I bought the duet he recorded with Chet Baker and beleive me, nothing to write home about. Not my cup of tea.

Another great recording of MLW is Live at the Cookery. Not always I can agree with the AMG. This time the AMG is absolutely right. I'll add 0.5 star of my own to complete the AMG rating to 5 stars. beatiful music played by a great pianist.

Try whiskey. That's what I do (single malt of course). The whiskey does a much better job… Maybe we have to open a thread "what is your preferred whiskey?".

Two CDs I received today. The first one is one of favorite trio: Kuhn-Humair-Jenny Clark: Live @ Theatre de la Ville, Paris 1989. IMHO, this trio is one of the best of the last 20 years (Hiroshi, thank you again). The other one is African Suite for trio and string orchestra (Abdullah Ibrahim).

Two tunes that come to my mind: Caravan, the drums playing of Roach is amazing, and Greensleeves by Coltrane.

According to the search results there is no thread here dedicated to Teddy Wilson, so I'll raise the question: Any Teddy Wilson recommendation except of the Mosaic set? Few weeks ago I bought the 2 CDs set of the French label Fremeaux with Wilson recordings between 1933-1950 and I really enjoy it. I can imagine his recordings for Verve are his best trio recordings, but what about other formats like the orchestra he had during the 30's??? Thank you in advance.
