Having cared for a relative similarly diagnosed, I feel especially saddened by the fact that he contracted this horrible disease at a relatively young age. In this case, I feel that death, when it inevitably comes, is a blessing. RIP.

From Dusty Groove? The one that I ordered but got beaten to? You little... Dueces Wild my ass - it's BASTARDS Wild! ← I went with my wife today to an antiques fair in West Palm Beach and spotted a very clean copy of this LP on a table that had a couple of stacks of LPs. The only non-musical drawback was the fact that on the upper left corner of the jacket there was a punch hole, a clean one but nevertheless, a hole. Dealer wanted $15 so I passed since the most I was willing to pay was $5. Don't listen much to LPs anymore so I really don't want to pay much whenever I see somethng of interest.

Hey Hans: I didn't mean to chase you away. Just wanted a little context to the data you were providing so that it could become information. I really thought my criticism was constructive; sorry you apparently didn't take it that way. Martin

Check out the book "Eats, Shoots and Leaves" for a funny treatment of the common English mistakes everyone encounters. The author really takes off on the "its" vs "it's" confusion. Incidentally my pet peeve is when people confuse "your" and "you're". It's kind of ironically hysterical when you encounter it on a handwritten sign: "Your a moron".

I take pleasure in knocking the socks off every jazz neophyte I meet with Trane's solo(s) on "Blues Minor" (AFRICA BRASS).

Hans: With all due respect, you have a posted a boatload of useless data. What good is it to know that a quartet led by Sonny Stitt recorded on this date in '71 if you don't provide SOME additional identifying info, e.g., personnel, label, number of tunes recorded, album title..... Not saying all of this should be provided but something to identify what went on that day. No doubt I'm at the other extreme providing album covers when possible, but I believe some middle ground is required.

Definitely helpful -- thanks Marty. It looks like I'll get this one after Rush Hour. Guy ← Glad I was of help but just out of curiosity, which one are you getting?
-
Both are excellent. If you have to choose one, then the choice depends on your listening preferences. If you prefer the relative tightness of a studio session and that tracks not stretch out excessively, then go for the 1999 recording 52nd STREET THEMES. This CD contains 13 cuts (5 of them penned by Tadd Dameron), ranging in length from 2 to 8 minutes. If you like the relative looseness of a live date wherein musicians tend to stretch out a bit more, then go for the 2002 recording, ON THIS DAY. This CD has 7 tracks (2 penned by Dameron), between 5 to 15 minutes in length. Hope that was helpful. Martin

Gold Coast Jazz Society 2005-6 Season
MartyJazz replied to Dan Gould's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Yeah, it's a bit way off, but I certainly hope to make it. Coincidentally, I was just now listening to one of the "vines" I recently copped, that of Golson in Eisenwerk Frauenfeld, Switzerland in Oct 2000. Just marvelous! I for one really prefer his later sound to that heard in the '60s Jazztet. -

Came to this thread a little late but I'd just like you to know for a brief period I knew your uncle, Lamar Wright Jr., on whom I did a brief audio documentary for a class I was taking at the New School. At the time, Lamar gave me a couple of photos, one of which is a real gem - he and Dexter Gordon as young boys in L.A. If interested, PM me privately for more details.
