  1. Of course, it was released in Japan (TOCJ-1611).
  2. Darryl Strawberry Chu Berry Don Cherry
  3. Yeah, but feelings were apparently hurt.
  4. The anal obsessive-compulsive in me would love to have the answers if only so that I could add them to my Excel track list. Right now a gap obviously exists between BFT 24 & 26. I still can't understand why RT would go to the trouble of making 2 extra discs of a Woody Shaw concert without bothering to make sure that all bases were covered on the BFT itself.
  5. And now the Yanks pick up Chacon from the Rockies. He will start this weekend and the Yanks will have used a major league leading 12 pitchers this year. Truly pathetic, yet still in the AL East race. Red Sox should be running away with the division by now but they have their own problems, e.g., a superstar who won't give up his promised day off after a starting player goes down. $20 mil a year and he refuses to give up his day off in a tight pennant race. Ramirez may have a ton of talent but what kind of example setting is that? And he had the balls to make fun of Derek Jeter with that "he's out on the golf course" reference at the World Series victory parade. Which player would you rather have?
  6. I guess you were talking about me So who wants to send cheers to Russia? Andrew ← I was not at all talking about you. You're on the list and I sent out your package yesterday. Hope you receive it in a timely manner.
  7. What's really desperate is getting him on a waiver claim and relieving Tampa Bay of whatever contractual obligation there was. ← Hey, It's not so bad. Hideki now has someone he can talk to, however short term that situation will be.
  8. Final count is 36 as we add fent99 and catesta to the mix. Heading out to the post office to ship to the overseas contingent. Any stragglers should request a "mercy burn" from anyone of the 36 they're tight with.
  9. Alright, count is up to 34 and any new sign-ons may have to wait a little (or cop the discs from one of the 34). JSngry has graciously reminded me that we're on a new BFT schedule and since August is upon us, I'll be mailing to the overseas people today. I'll ship to the "locals" (U.S.) by Monday. I'll soon thereafter post a "Check-In" topic to see when discussion can begin. BTW, since I've already posted the first 23 recipients, here are the last 11: tjobbe JSngry White Lightning Indigo Peter Johnson alejo randyhersom Claude Bartee Joe G Upright Bill naos
  10. Hey, it'll be their loss. I'm happy to do this BFT now as my working season resumes in earnest in the fall 'cause that's when it's snowbird time in south Florida. In any event we're up to 26 and if we tap out at 30, that's cool.
  11. Count is now up to 23. Added to the list are: couw Rosco Eloe Omoe Durium Since 30 sets have already been made, that leaves, uh, uh......7 more to go. Will make more if I must, but the first 30 are guaranteed to receive the discs in a very timely manner. Wanna hear from you.
  12. OK, just back from a brief vacation and thought I'd post a list of who thus far has responded for the upcoming BFT #28. I see 19 names and let me tell you there better be at least 11 more because I'll be real disappointed with a low turnout after having already made 30 sets of discs. I will personally mail out all the discs, the non-U.S. people getting the first mailout as I'd like everyone to get their discs at around the same time so no one should have any listening time advantage. So let me hear it from at least 11 more of you!!! (And I promise you there will be some very good listening). Here are the 19 who have requested the BFT: Stereojack Brownie Bright Moments paul secor king ubu Dan Gould mikeweil Harold Z tooter Noj .:.impossible Jim R Jim Dye Dmitry marcoliv dutchmanx Big Al Stefan Wood John B
  13. Now that the discussion for BFT #27 is well under way and the fact that I'm leaving for a brief vacation that will end around the 24th, I thought that now would be a good time for all of you BFT participants to sign up now for the next one. It will be a 2 disc affair, a labor of love. PM me with your address particulars, etc., and I'll post a list of all who have signed up when I return. Looking forward to getting away and to the BFT next month.
  14. Hey Dan G, bluesForBartok and all other members of Red Sox Nation: What about that ending if you're a Yankee fan? Fenway Park, fans screaming as their pitching hero walks in to start the 9th inning of a tie game, and promptly proves he is far from being the closer you guys need. Sweet revenge for A-Rod to boot. Then Mariano stops the mock cheers forever with a blow 'em away vintage performance. It doesn't get any better than that! What the hell, it's just one game. With our terrible pitching, we could lose the next 3 and I wouldn't be surprised one bit. But for one night, I'll take it and sleep rather well. -_-

  21. 1) Well, the alto player is announced, so no need to guess. I would admit however that in this context, I never would have ID'd him although a few of his signature licks are present. Sounds like a terrific party, way south of the border. 2) This track would be quite useful at Gitmo. Definitely NMCOT. 3) I'd rather hear Otis Redding on this one. Syrupy alto, not to my taste. 4) Billie Holiday standard, another one of those mysterious female vocalists you seem to favor. 5) Can say with absolute certainty that if that's not Freddie on tpt, I'll hang it up altogether. Can't ID anyone else, but Hubbard's favorite patterns are all over the place on this disc. Sounds like a post '60s date. "Without a Song", great tune. All right, I'll listen some more. Would like to be more positive about these discs. Big Al, where are you?
  22. Hey Jim: You must be a charter member of the "eclecticians" union because I would be hard pressed to find a more varied mix of music than you have put together. I have to listen a few more times but here are some cursory thoughts on a number of the 17 tracks on this disc: 1) Bright bouncy version of the "national anthem" , can't ID the organ but very swinging. 4) Definitely Rollins in concert, circa late '70s or so I would guess. Not my favorite period of the master but let's not get into that stale controversy again. 5) This sounds like a parody of the early Brubeck-Desmond quartet on the standard "Gone With the Wind". Doesn't make it for me musically except as parody, I'm afraid. 6) Obviously improvising on "The Man I Love", the track is evocative of the JATP of the late '40s. Could be Charlie Shavers on tpt, Willie Smith (?) alto, can't ID the guitar. 8) This vocalist doesn't make it for me at all. Give me Ivy Anderson, please. Is that some late period Shepp on tenor? 9) "Everything's Coming Up Roses". Bright orchestral treatment, but NMCOT. 11) Love this Randy Weston tune, xylophone (not vibes) I believe. Pleasant, that's about it. 15) Sounds like Turrentine on the warhorse "Time After Time". If so, I'd guess Shirley Scott on organ. I'm afraid I'm not too swift on ID' g organ players (or guitar players for that matter). 17) Other than trying to stump us on these vocalists, I'm trying to grasp what you see (hear) in them. It was fun, I'm sure Big Al is having a lot more fun.
  23. July 8th. Also recorded on this date: 1966, Roswell Rudd group with Robin Kenyatta, Giuseppi Logan, Charlie Haden, Lewis Worrell & Beaver Harris record 4 tracks for Impulse. 1989, Charlie Haden & the Liberation Music Orchestra perform at the Festival International de Jazz in Montreal (Verve).
  24. Hey Jim: Got the package today and will be sending out to Bright Moments and Dan G tomorrow. Thanks a lot. (Already started to listen some too ).
  25. I'm trying to recall the film in which a rock star says to his buddy: "You saw the girl I made it with last night. Turns out she's 15 years old". (Pause)......I could have sworn she was 12."
