  1. Not quite Red Sox "news" but I'm sure interesting to their players and fans. Derek Lowe in La-La land. I only wish this article showed a photo of the woman in this affair: http://www.nypost.com/sports/26754.htm Not as bad as Fritz Peterson and Mike Kekich (anyone here remember that story?), but an interesting, quick read.
  2. No grease to take care of the squeals, what is one to do? To each his own.
  3. Even one more is too many. I guess I qualify as an oldtimer now, but jeez when I was getting into baseball and even during my 20s, 30s and even 40s, I can't remember any team rushing to sign a 41 year old pitcher (a pitcher!!!!! for Christ sake) and throwing millions and a multiyear contract to boot. Totally insane. What the hell was the Yankee front office thinking?
  4. It only hurt for a little while though. Or did you move to track 13 as soon as they went outside the box? Anyway, enjoyed your input. Zero score but I'm glad that overall, you liked the compilation.
  5. Ya done real good, couw. Man, that track 15 turned out to be a real freebie for all concerned. Well, I guess it should be easy....classic bebop and great trumpet playing. Those tenors on #13 are driving some of you nuts. Good! Anyway, love the input and glad that at the very least, overall you all seem to like this disc.
  6. Well, if these two are your first ones, you're doing OK. Appreciate all you got to say. How about some others?!!!!
  7. Bingo, but as you probably realize there are two tenor players on the cut and the other one acquits himself rather well, I think. Anyway, good job.
  8. Well, if others have ID'd it, I've yet to hear from them. Good going. BTW, did you know it's based on the changes to "Days of Wine and Roses"??!!!!
  9. Let's just say there is one overriding factor separating Disc One from Disc Two, but that's not it. All in due time.
  10. Love those changes. I've even made a CD-R of originals based on those changes.
  11. Some very quick IDs and quite a few good guesses, some interesting totally wrong ones as well. Great input and I'll hand out a few kudos now to Stereojack (I was afraid of him - he's my contemporary AND he has a record store) and Tooter. Rosco and Harold Z have also hit a bullseye here and there. Keep 'em coming.
  12. Would love your input here also.
  13. I was hoping for more check-ins from the overseas contingent, but what are you gonna do? Overall, 2/3 have reported in, so I want to hear from you. Say whatever....
  14. I'm afraid that's it. My friend was more of an artist than a photographer. However, if I remember correctly he did organize a one time performance of the group shown in the photo (unsure who the drummer was for the date) at which time he took this shot. It hung on the wall of his apartment for the many years I knew him, his widow subsequently giving the photo to me. I have no doubt that Miles and everyone else (save Lucky) were laughing probably because of something my friend said at the time he took the picture. He had an incredible way of making you laugh right at the moment he took a photo.
  15. Remember me? I used to sit behind you in home room. Happy Birthday and many more!
  16. OK, we're almost ready to go with the discussion. I'd like to see a few more check in even if you aren't ready (or plan) to discuss. Obviously getting the discs is one thing, having the time to listen is another. Anyway, let me hear from those who've received but have yet to check in. Thanks.
  17. Here's a unique photo taken by a friend of mine (long deceased) circa 1954. I trust that I don't have to ID those present.
  18. Terrific, always interesting and highly individualistic, i.e., instantly recognizable, player. I too was moved by the occasional reporting of the circumstances of his recent whereabouts. RIP, indeed.
  19. I saw this in a local Border's yesterday. Surprisingly, the cover is entirely different than the one previously used on the Japanese vinyl and earlier CD.
  20. That's gotta be a record. I mailed the domestics (except for south Florida which went out today) on Saturday, so that's one mail day to Texas!
  21. Quite a combo Rafi's got going for him - Viagra and steroids. I hope he doesn't hurt himself.
  22. What's this about Joe Morgan? I've grown to despise the man as an analyst, never more so than when he defended A-Rod's glove-slap in the ALCS by asking, "So he's more of a man for letting himself be tagged out?" But if you're saying that Joe Morgan didn't show because he thinks Rhyno doesn't belong ... ← I don't know about the reasons for his noshow at the HOF ceremony and I cannot agree with a defense of A-Rod for glove slap, but that aside, Morgan is a superb analyst. His experience playing the game really comes through when he is dissecting game situations and I for one totally enjoy listening to him. Much, much more so than McCarver, for example.
  23. Buddy Hackett Bobby Hackett Paul Hackett
  24. OK, first of August, more or less on schedule. All discs to overseas and domestics have been mailed. Tooter and Rosco of the UK have already checked in. Anyone else? Let me know so I can know about when to begin discussion.
  25. Mail in the UK is pretty good. I sent the overseas discs out this past Wednesday. U.S. people won't get theirs until Tuesday at the earliest.
