  1. For years I had been searching for "The Axidentals "Axidentally On Purpose", an old United Artists release. One day a friend in New Jersey (we each hold each others want's list) passed a driveway with a garage sale going on and stopped and found a box of LPs. He got the album I had been looking for for fifty cents in near mint condition. One never knows? By the way, other albums from this fine group are "Hello, We're The Axidentals" and "The Kai Winding Trombones Featuring the Axidentals".
  2. A nice Quincy album can be had for only $7.99 as a download from Tower Records Downloads. In order to get it you have to have your Windows Media Player set up for some kind of security bullshit and when you try to download (after paying) you will get this message: Before you can obtain this content, you need to upgrade the security of your media player. If you choose to upgrade, your computer will connect to a Microsoft-operated Internet site and send information about your media player, including a unique hardware identifier. No information will be sent that can be used to personally identify you or track your activities. Microsoft will then update the security component of your media player to ensure that it runs with optimal security. To deny the security upgrade, click Cancel. You also have to have downloaded (free) Windows Media Player version #9. The download file comes in the new format which precludes making a copy from the CD that you have burned. 1. The Quintessence 2. Robot Portrait 3. Little Karen 4. Straight, No Chaser 5. For Lena And Lennie 6. Hard Sock Dance 7. Invitation 8. The Twitch If it were not for this CD reissue's extreme brevity (under 31 minutes), it would receive a much higher rating. One of arranger/composer Quincy Jones' finest recordings, this 1961 set features such top players as trumpeters Clark Terry, Thad Jones and Freddie Hubbard, Julius Watkins on French horn, and most notably altoist Phil Woods in several big-band settings. Jones' three originals include "Quintessence" and "For Lena and Lennie"; plus, there are reworkings of "Invitation" and pieces by Benny Golson and Thelonious Monk, among others. The music swings, and the solos are logical outgrowths of the arrangements; if only more than one piece were over 4½ minutes long. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide One site's price for the Japanese issue $31.86 at Dusty Groove Quintessence . . . CD . . . $19.99
  3. I downloaded the entire 14 tracks for Meade Lux Lewis and it was still $9.99. Anita was $9.99 also.

Whisper Not 8. Blues By Five 9. In Other Words 10. You And The Night And The Music 11. Let Me Off Uptown 12. My Heart Stood Still 13. Leave It To Me 14. Blues By Five
  5. Found this other cover of "Cat House".
  6. Thanks for the input and info. Went there and found Meade Lux I've been looking for for a long time. Other great albums here. Process is simple, just follow explicit instructions for downloading necessary software.
  7. The Sacha Distel "Jazz In Paris" is back at Dusty Groove. A grand 2 CD set.
  8. Be sure to close your eyes while he is singing.
  9. Dmitry.........did you see Red Carraro? Did you give him my message? You are right about the age bracket. You have to udnerstand that this is the same group of guys both attending and selling, some for well over 30 years (27 for me). I had a very blue Thurs., Fri. & Sat. knowing I would not be there. So glad you found some things and enjoyed yourself. The real trick, for those of you planning on next year, when hopefully I will be there once again, is to stay at the Holiday Inn overnight on Thursday night. Thursday night you can can see about 50% of the vendors who check in then and then be the first one in on Friday morning. They usually have a special rate of about $75.00 at the Holiday Inn. The outside (in the parking lot) vendors, who are too cheap to get a table inside, usually have 78 rpm records. They still come every year and the action outside early Friday morning is brisk but usually gone by 11 AM. Usually there are more Japanese buyers than just one. They buy thousands of dollars worth of LPs, send them back to Japan and with the profits get a free trip to the US. The picture is a dual amp. Top for men, bottom for women. You can thank Tooter for this one.
  10. I have done this show as a vendor and spectator for 27 straight years. This will be the first one I've missed in all those years due to a bad back and the drive from North Carolina would be too much. You want to go to this show. Go Thursday night after 6 PM for the choicest material as that is when all the vendors buy between themselves. See "Red Carraro" for the best and fairest buys. Tell him Ron Meyers loves him but won't be walking in the door.
  11. Just got "Piano Mover" - Dave McKenna with Dick Johnson. Grand!!!!!!
  12. Presumably not in our bag................although I wouldn't mind hearing Dick Tracy in B flat. Radiola; MR 1155....A Star is Born; 1985 Radiola; MR 1040....Judy Garland on Radio; 1974 Radiola; MR 1109....The Wizard of Oz on Radio; 1980 Radiola; 2MR 1718....Hollywood is on the Air (gatefold cover; 2 LPs); 1972 Radiola/Sandy Hook; SH 2052....Dick Tracy in B Flat; 1981 Radiola/Sandy Hook; SH 2080....Till the Clouds Roll By; 1983
  13. Of particular interest should be the two albums Ms. McPartland made with Mary Fettig (alto player). One is with McPartland as leader and one is with Fettig as leader.
  14. Ernie Henry................like a lot. As far as I know he only had 3 albums as leader.
  15. Dmitry............not too many people that I have found are into Saxomania. Great group. Great sound. I have the Benny Carter also. Do you have the one with Phil Woods? Great. Also the one with Marlene Ver Plank on vocals and one with Spike Robinson, There's one I've been searching for called "Sax Connections" Ida 038. Do you have that? I think it may be CD only.
  16. Vastly under recorded Chuck Wayne and Joe Puma never got his due either.
