He's had a "comeback" show or two in Los Angeles after the album was reissued. I did not go to either, but I have a vague collection that it went poorly - underrehearsed, etc.

Conquer a fear. Call her back. Catch up for a few minutes. You are not obligated to do anything else. You don't have to follow up with the friends. You don't need to call her again. If she asks you to go out with a group, say you can't at this time, but thank you for asking.

I'd like to be in this time. Will have some unemplyed time, so perhaps I can actually contribute to the discussion. I'll PM.

"But did "Freebird" truly start with the KevHeads? Longtime Chicago Tribune music writer Greg Kot says he remembers the cry from the early 1980s. He suggests it originated as an in-joke among indie-rock fans "having their sneer at mainstream classic rock." -- I think this is teh closest to the truth when I hear it yelled these days (and I've done it myself a couple of times.) There is no expectation that they will actually play it. I think there's a slight irritation at people calling out requests from the crowd, and there is an absurdity at incorporating "Freebird" in it no matter the band. And it is the archetypical guitar blues-rock blow out. I think most peopel get the joke; I think the problem is that the joke is old & dead now.

My recollection is that most of those other Verve limited release CDs (whatever that series was called) were also 5000 worldwide each, and those were all available for quite some time (except that Marquis de Sade Lalo Schifrin). But heck I just bought the Waldron/Lacy and Burrell, and soon I'll get the Art Endemble and Clifford Thornton discs.

5000? They won't sell out for 2 years at least.

It seems like "2046" is never gonna play in these here United States. I saw a DVD of it at Amoeba, fresh from Hong Kong, and decided to buy it. Of course, I haven't watched it yet. I did get to give Ziyi Zhang a box of popcorn personally at the Telluride Film Festival. B-) She's small and cute, and had a baseball cap on head and a sweatshirt, but didn't stand out. One day (when they showed "House of Flying Daggers") she was there with a small entourage to introduce the film. But the next day she was just there by herself to see another film, and came out to get her popcorn on her own. It seemed like no one recognized her. Prio to doing "Crouching Tiger," she said that hadn't done any martial arts type films. I'm slightly more of a Maggie Cheung person myself. "Irma Vep" "In the Mood for Love" "Hero" "The Heroic Trio" "Green Snake" etc.

I rather enjoyed the chunk that I saw of the silent BEN HUR last night.

For VHS decks: Actually, that's what we do in post production on much more expensive decks. Open them up and clean with alcohol. But cotton swabs aren't really good: they can leave bits o' cotton. Get some good lint-free cloths. We get a kind that are already cut into little squares and packaged in a ziplock bag. There are also better types of alcohol than others. No insight into the laser cleaners.

I think "Head" is a really entertaining surrealistic anti-war romp, with some excellent wordplay, and not at all bad. But I imagine it appeals in the same way that Soderburgh's "Schizopolis" does. Not to the taste of most, and probably too insular for its own good, but with enough cleverness to get by. But Head adds being nicely subversive - imagine constructed pop stars (say the winners of American Idol from the past 3 years) suddenly hiring Jack Nicholson & Bob Rafaelson to do a bizarre skit comedy type film strongly opposing the war in Iraq. Elizabeth Berkley (spelling?) the girl in Showgirls, did reasonably well in Rodger Dodger. Never seen "200 Motels" What is the Alex Cox film of a similar vein? "Straight to Hell" Never seen that either. The Pogues, Elvis Costello, Dennis Hopper, right? But since when do films need to make sense to be good films? Since when do the effects all need to be top-notch for a film to be good? Look how Lucas slowly ruins "Star Wars" with each improvement of the effects. They are good if they enter your dreams (day or sleeping). But that's a whole other discussion.

My response is largely the same as Newk's. It was nice; no tremendous peaks; problematic mix. But I took my mom, and she loved it. The audience gave huge cheers to the two calypso numbers, and Rollins himself seemed taken aback by the intense enthusiasm of the crowd throughout, and seemed in good spirits.

Ah, but inflammatory thread names are better to raise interest. Let's consider it an exercise in consciousness raising instead. I personally was not suitably aware of reverse look-ups on line, and now I will be. I agree that any determined stalker (just like any truly determined thief, etc) will find a way to the necessary information. But it does work perhaps as a deterrent for those not truly determined, llike locking your car doors will reduce the chance of having your car broken into by a casual car thief. Hi folks, This is true. If you don't want people to easily find your address from your phone number, then you need to remove yourself from the Google database. I just tested it. But their database is a few years old. They still have the old address for where I work. My cell is not listed; my home is. That sort of thing. Google has implemented a new feature wherein you can type someone's telephone number into the search bar and hit enter and then you will be given their address, and a button to make a map. My phone numbercame up, and when I clicked on the MapQuest link, it actually mapped out where I live. Quite scary. Please look up your own number. Read below for details. Think about it-if a child, ANYONE gives out his/her phone number, someone can actually now look it up to find out where he/she lives. The safety issues are obvious, and alarming. In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go <http://www.google.com/> Type your phone number in the search bar and hit enter. If you want to BLOCK Google from divulging your private information, simply click on the telephone listing, which takes you to a form. Removal takes 48-hours. If you are unlisted in the phone book, you might not be in there, but it is a good idea just to check. If your number does come up if you hit map, it will show you a direct map to your house...

If you don't have luck, I'll bet you anything that it will reappear shortly before the next Bond film hits theatres. I think the only time I saw those boxes was at Best Buy.

GA got it right, I think. But couch it nicely. Confrontation usually just defeats your purpose, except when threats do the job. "Hi, we just realized that we've been playing at $650 a show for X months. But expenses have gone up for us - gas, rehearsal space, electricity, union fees, licensing fees. We need to raise our weekly appearance fee to $800, but given how much we bring you at the door and the bar, we're sure that won't be too much trouble. Of course, if you prefer, we'll take $785 and not pay those silly ASCAP & BFI fees."

If you don't like this one, then Tommy Lee Jones is in another one JUST LIKE IT in a week or two. But fortunately they are each so very different from Kindergarten Cop.

I made it to the show, but I arived at 6:50 and they wouldn't let us in the room - no seats. (I left Burbank at 5:10 to get there. Crazy traffic!) So I listened to some from through a door near the band, then some from a lounge room at the back of the room where they were playing, and then finally a couple of numbers from inside the room. It was at the Athaneaum on at Claremont McKenna College. On 8th Street. I thought the show was pretty tame although nice. Redman didn't really go "out" at all. His tone and chops are absolutely lovely, and I echo Newk's view of him as a ballad player. There were 7 players total, plus one gentleman whose name I missed acting as MC and as conductor on a couple larger arranged pieces. Cecilia Coleman on piano, Derek Oles on bass, Joe LaBarbera on drums, Tim Hagans trumpet, Danny House alto sax, Dave Woodley trombone. I have no previous familiarity with House or Woodley. A very large crowdat the show - "sold out" although it was free. They played for about 90 minutes straight. I think my favorite pieces were a couple where it was just a quartet - Redman plus p, b, d. Only caught one title, which Redman introduced with a long story - "I-PIMP" which he says stands for "I peed in my pants." Enjoyable, but the traffic might lead me to skip the third show, with Andrew Cyrille & others.

I have been to a couple of their shows - one shadow play, one concert. Tried to go to another shadow play but it was sold out. Delightful multi-media events or concerts, borrowing heavily on Gamelan music. One concert was a performance by three people on Mt. Meru instrument along the Los Angeles River. That was lovely.

Maybe there aren't really any, but people are too distracted or lazy to realize that they can kick them out.

This set: #112 The Complete Black Lion Vogue Recordings of Thelonious Monk (3 CDs) With a slightly odd situation (that makes it unique and extra valuable ) I purchased the set from Mosaic just after it officially went out of print. They "assembled" me a set - all three CDs and a book. But they were out of boxes. They sent it to me in a plain black Mosaic box (no picture of Monk on the cover). The booklet number is "X" - no number. Normal use wear from someone who treats their collection well. Everything is complete. Standard scuff marks on the jewel cases (I keep them on the shelves with other CDs.) An LP version went on eBay recently for $122. So I figure I'd try asking for $90 or best offer. PM me if you are interested. I'll put up a couple of photos in a minute.
