  1. But since this was before any of those dudes were under contract to a label - 1958 - and Bley led that band and taped the sessions, I'd assume sidemen were SOL when it came to recordings being released. Of course Bley could've been a nice guy and drawn up new contracts, but I assume it was probably within his rights not to. I also think there's a space in between "stupid" and "evil" that a fair amount of artists/businesspeople operate within. Sadly that gives many more latitude than they perhaps deserve.
  2. Going back to the Bley thing, if Coleman was paid as a sideman on those gigs and Bley taped them, doesn't the owner/bandleader get to do what he wants with those tapes as long as publishing is paid? I count five Coleman tunes across two records, with the rest being a standard, a Roy Eldridge and a Charlie Parker line.
  3. Perhaps neither an idiot nor an evil person - but lying to ensure that sessions he made with Ornette are in the marketplace.
  4. I bet; the first three LPs are rad, but I have a hard time being interested after that.
  5. Alice Cooper - Pretties for You - (Straight, US orig)
  6. I already like the bald guy better.
  7. I was just saying that the "agreement" not reached could have been more monetary than aesthetic. Either way, NAGL for these Antibalas dudes.
  8. Perhaps Ornette hasn't been paid.
  9. Would like to hear the quartet with Prince Lawsha as the other saxophonist!
  10. would like to hear this as well as the two Revelation LPs mentioned.
  11. Hoppy T. Frog gets a from me.
  12. I got this from Dime or whatever - it's totally great, much of it equalling or eclipsing the commercial LP - and despite my general observance of avoiding boots, will probably pick up a physical copy as well. I do recall some analog fuzz and fizz in spots, which may have contributed to certain tracks not surfacing before.
  13. I recall it being tossed around - the word "Unobtanium" - in cycling parlance in the 1990s, referring to high-end bicycle frame materials. additionally, I'm waiting for someone to chime in with an OG copy of 1568 on the "what vinyl are you spinning now?" thread... hell, I only have it on CD!
  14. What stinks is that all the unpaid-for market outliers end up on popsike and cfrenzy, thus skewing future auctions upward.
  15. I assume it will not be paid for.
  16. Charlie Persip on Bethlehem is another, although Belgrave is only on one track IIRC.
  17. Huh. I have the material on Tompkins Square, which I guess is everything recorded, and it's heavy.
  18. That's dumb, but this next level: http://collectorsfrenzy.com/details/271872769323/Hank_Mobley__Hank_Mobley_Stunning_US_First_Press_Blue_Note_BLP_1568_RVG
  19. yeah, not condoning, just transcribing.
  20. Maybe you had to be there but I really dig Patti Smith and really, really dig Tom Verlaine. IDK about Friends & Neighbors' legitimacy, but I get the feeling there developed some bad blood between Bob Thiele and Ornette. Stollman told me - and take this with however much salt you need - that Ornette took one of the Town Hall tapes to Stollman because he could have Alderson correct some distortion. He said that Ornette owed him money for "past legal advice" and that releasing the record was part of the compensation. Weird move but I am glad to be able to hear this record. The performance is one of my favorites. From a recollection of meeting with Bud and Ornette at Nica's in the '60s:
  21. I'll have to check my hardback edition to see if the pagination is different. Excellent volume, would read it again!
  22. I must re listen to Rava's Horo, I recall being very impressed with it. I like it quite a bit.
  23. Very sad news. RIP.
  24. Really? I would buy that as a balm until I find an original LP set!
  25. This seemed weird and mildly off-putting from the get-go. If the following is true, then some of our suspicions were correct and this is a bullshit move. That quick OOP status seems to have meant something fishy was going on.
