  1. Liked Glen Moore's playing but couldn't get into the band's music. Oh well.
  2. yeah, I've heard it - agreed that the cost of owning an OG is high, but it's one of those that feels somehow 'necessary' (even if very little of it is truly 'necessary'). Lucky that you were able to return the record because you weren't feeling the music - that almost never happens!
  3. I would consider doing that. Wonder if I have anything to trade...
  4. Never had that Tony Scott but would like to. Now: Toshi Tsuchitori - Solo - (DYM, Japan) one of these oddly came into the store my friend owns in Austin years ago. He didn't know I was looking for it and it went up on eBay (didn't win). Got an untouched dead-stock copy from a friend in Japan last week and it's truly beautiful music. Now if I can just pull that damn Origination LP!
  5. Did a little research and they are the same Doxy label. Abraxas does all this stuff, and while there may be a few legitimately licensed titles, the bulk is bootlegged. The Italians strike again.
  6. Wow. RIP.
  7. Sorry to hear this - RIP. Looking forward to hearing more of his work, albeit in his absence.
  8. I really wish the presentation had been better. Also some of the transfers are kind of crappy; the original LPs don't sound *that* bad and I guess they used some pretty battered copies with minimal restoration for this project. The duplicate cassette performance of Misha/Han is annoying, as are the wrecked transfers of the cassette orchestra releases. And those cheap mini-LP sleeves are underwhelming. Great music but come on, it could have been done better. I sold mine btw.
  9. been trying to get one of those for years and years and years...
  10. you think he's lying about his age, Allen?
  11. If it is the same Doxy that reissues historical jazz and classical recordings on LP with weird new sleeve art, then they are most certainly not legit.
  12. Not mentioned I guess because they are books NOT to avoid... ?
  13. Whoa. I am relatively familiar with his music apart from Ra - that Winds of Change LP he released is quite solid.
  14. yeah I know... doesn't seem like they used a very clean copy for this. Good record, would be interested in owning an original.
  15. Same, tight at the moment in both cash and space (hint: these are related!).
  16. exactly, a really great person.
  17. Yes, I'd forgotten about that one, must get it out (gets shelved elsewhere because of the oversized NotTwo sleeves) I'd love to see him live I've seen him live a couple of times and it's been quite rewarding.
  18. I heard it was getting reissued but I can't remember who's doing it.
  19. yeah, I got mine for free and still haven't made my way through all of it. The Important box, however, has been jammed a bunch.
  20. Regarding 'looks' I mean, sure, I agree, but getting to know her as a human being/improviser trumps everything else...
  21. I paid $20 in 2005 - hadn't seen it often and felt like it was a good price, even with some cover wear.
  22. yes that's the one.
  23. ha, I actually like that one quite a bit. The balance between improvisation and knotty contemporary rock structures (i.e., Polvo) is pretty cool. Seems to work better w/o horns in my opinion.
  24. What is the Miles book to read? The autobiog is nutty and interesting, but probably fairly far from accurate in certain places. Carr's book seems informative but I'm told a lot of it has holes as well..
