  1. That's one of a few Lps that I regret selling many years ago. I found my copy in mint shape for $4 and could not resist the easy/quick profit to be had at the time One I want a lot, too but I can't blame you -- I might do the same. It's a very good record - the unaccompanied vocal piece is especially nice. Well-conceived and not just another NYC "loft" session (though the cast might give that impression). I'm sorta surprised it goes for a lot of money, considering the fact that it's not that rare, but whatever... When Porter was doing their Seeds reissues they tried to do this one as well but the Lee estate wasn't having any of it (they wanted something like a million dollars for the right to reissue it). Too bad, as I think that sort of behavior just encourages bootleggers.
  2. Yeah, he's an odd duck for sure but I consider him a friend. He stayed with us in Brooklyn for a week. Lotta history to discuss.
  3. I bet. Interviewed him years ago for AAJ and the experience was a trip. Fascinating character.
  4. yeah that was actually my assumption, especially if the take was otherwise superior. Although I suppose one could edit takes together at that time.
  5. Jeanne Lee - Conspiracy - (Earthforms) guess this came out on Mait Edey's Seeds label as well, but mine is not that version.
  6. Only knew the name in passing but will investigate - sorry to hear this. RIP.
  7. pretty near zilch - I pestered Al Fielder but he hadn't heard of him. Should've pressed Leroy on the subject at the time.
  8. Holy - or should I say unholy - Shit. This is horrific. What a tragedy.
  9. I'm fond of the Ardell Nelson single, with Mace Morgan on organ and Leroy Jenkins on violin. http://cliffordallen.blogspot.com/2010/11/ardell-nelsons-jazz-prophets-featuring.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhqWc03T-VE
  10. not in the US, at least not for me...
  11. seems to go for around $15-$20 on eBay. I'll hunt for it the next time I'm at the Jazz Record Center.
  12. Barry Altschul should always be in demand - fantastic musician, funny dude.
  13. I don't know - assume his estate has part ownership, right?
  14. Yep. Hope their escrow has at least a few hundred bucks in it to license those titles!
  15. curious to check this out - thanks.
  16. Let me clarify: they are uploading/ripping tons of out of print music that they have in their store and selling it online, without the artists' or labels' knowledge. Of course, they're too lazy to look up who actually owns this stuff and are banking on the artists being obscure enough that most labels won't care. They have Jeanne Lee's Conspiracy up there (which was privately pressed in the 70s) and I can tell you that her estate has put the kibosh on several legitimate attempts to reissue it. More than likely DIW or the Ayler estate have no idea that these recordings are up there for download and I have a hard time imagining this escrow bullshit would appease many lawyers. Thankfully, most musicians are too poor to hire legal counsel to sue Amoeba... http://www.spin.com/articles/amoeba-music-vinyl-vault-download/
  17. yeah, the death / zombification is fairly instantaneous in the Walking Dead. They weren't in graves decomposing for years or anything. b/w This is "Family Programming."
  18. Amoeba's download store is NOT legal. They just haven't been sued yet.
  19. great music, cool artifact - wish I had one in the racks (though I don't have a 78 turntable).
  20. Sorry to hear this! RIP.
  21. Seems like they are "going from the tapes" but I wonder if the tapes are even with the originating labels? Caprice has the Eje Thelin stuff as far as I know, maybe they licensed the old Metronome session? Don't know who handles Vogue at this point. Zodiac is another one I'm still searching for - have had bad luck with poor condition OGs. Really nice record. Ah I see that Sony owns a lot of the French Vogue masters. I'd highly doubt they care enough to license this Wilen title, so it's probably a bootleg. "From the tapes," when it comes to these hyper-rare items, often makes me think that some collector has second-generation copies of the masters, or bought the masters off someone, rather than there being any "rights" assumed.
  22. I have been on the hunt for an OG for years. Have CDRs and find the music overall pretty enjoyable although definitely bootleg-quality sound (same with the JG sets). Wonder if anyone got paid, especially since the CB Records operation that originally did this compilation was very grey-label.
  23. been following her on instagram for ages. funny and hot. pretty simple there. and who cares whether or not they are "her records" (as there has been some debate because you know, 'ladies can't be collectros')...
  24. Special thanks to Peter Sarsgaard and Maggie Gyllenhaal? Guess they must have backed the project.
