  1. Cecil - Nefertite - (Fontana Holland)
  2. Ayler & Co. - The Hilversum Session - (Osmosis)
  3. There was/is a seller on eBay going under the name "jazzanese" which I thought was hilarious.
  4. More about this album here, complete with audio samples : Giles Farnaby's Dream Band The track 'Newcastle Brown' was apparently issued as a single. I really like this - thanks Bev Yeah, it's really good. I'd sort of let my fascination with Brit-folk languish for a while. Time to start digging those LPs out again. I'm sure the original Argo pressing of this is pretty expensive.
  5. Wow, congrats!!!
  6. Huh. Never seen cassingles of jazz or improvised music. Growing up, my younger sister had a bunch of them - pop hits of the day - and almost every one was gawd awful.
  7. Yeah, sure, a little boxy but a fine, fine session.
  8. It's part of a series of Mercury Japan CDs but I don't know if that means anything.
  9. Here is a link to directly send aid to Carter & /or his family.
  10. Really good record.
  11. Jeez Allen, I can't wait to hear the fruits of this.
  12. Seems like Alan Wilkinson is trying to blow out my speakers - sweet jaysus.

  13. Spitball was Joe Diorio's label.
  14. I guess I didn't realize that the Spitball man himself played with Horace.
  15. Masahiko Togashi - We Now Create - (Victor Japan)
  16. Yeah, I'm quite fond of that one.
  17. I dunno, the Bob James on Mercury is pretty weird - electronics, inside the piano stuff, alongside real odd versions of standards. Reminds me a bit of the Don Friedman stuff from the period, albeit with a narrower vocabulary. The trio won a single-LP deal on Mercury as a prize for an Ann Arbor Jazz Festival competition in '63. This is what I recall from my conversations with the drummer, Cleve Pozar, anyway. It's a fine LP in my opinion, but then again, I like the ESP quite a bit as well.
  18. I hate it when a record is awesome and self-explanatory and therefore VERY HARD to review. Four stars, somethin' special.

  19. Really like that record, and the CD that came out before it.
  20. If I've reached the stage of record collecting where I'm impressed by the sound and pressing of G'n'R Lies, then it's all downhill from here...

  21. Looks like they're working on that part still, but I'll keep you posted as soon as I find out more info.
  22. Budgie - Budgie - (Kapp) Might be one for Shawn...
  23. Happy Father's Day to my #1 influence, Jon G. Allen, PhD. Love and a wonderful day to you, Dad!
