  1. Was at the record store yesterday and moved all of their Sam Rivers CDs up onto the jazz wall. Luckily they had several in stock.
  2. I like the old stuff - not enough to hold on to any of the LPs, but I appreciate him as an important musical figure who did some neat stuff at one time. Seems like a cool guy; the Ronnie Ross story was a hoot!
  3. A little piece I did on some more recently-uncovered Rodd Keith song poem music. He's one of the great interpreters of this genre.
  4. 1923 is correct. I would certainly assume Rivers' playing crossed over to European musicians in the '60s, but Dimensions & Extensions didn't see release until the later 1970s (as part of that twofer), by which point the sound of people like Brotzmann, Dudek, Wanders, etc. had been established.
  5. Great photo, brownie! Yeah, a musician that it took me some time to really appreciate but I think the best music often doesn't hit you right away.
  6. ESP-Disk, especially considering the label/cover variations, etc., can be a really fascinating endeavor. Most original titles can be had for well under $100. Other mentions here I'd certainly second or third. Also... Muse India Navigation Verve Jazztone Atlantic
  7. Oh my god. RIP.
  8. How's the sound quality? Friedman & LaRoca make a nice team.
  9. Yeah, Eronel is pretty elusive.
  10. Sad news. I was just listening last week to the VIK record and thinking of how enjoyable it is.
  11. One definitely needs to be written. I'll have to pick up the D/B.
  12. The Gunter Hampel was a reissue of the first album on his Birth label, and he has put it out on CD.
  13. Interesting - I can't imagine anyone wanting the whole catalog because there are a fair number of clinkers along with the good stuff.
  14. I know him from a couple of Giorgio Buratti sessions - which I like, free-ish - but little else. Would also enjoy some recommendations.
  15. Piet Noordijk Tony Levin Hans Reichel
  16. I didn't expect it to be that bad! No wonder the majors dropped him. This shit is stupid. Post-modern my arse.
  17. I was surprised that they didn't do a two LPs on one CD of the Archie Shepp Pitchin'Can/Coral Rock and Frank Wright/Noah Howard Uhuru Na Umoja & Space Dimension. At least they did do the Emergency record, which is an LP that I've always been quite fond of.
  18. Done.
  19. Exactly.
