  1. Take care, Joseph. He drew a funny face and wrote "Thanks for Being!!!" on one of my AEC LPs. Roscoe said, on signing it, "that's Joseph for you," and chuckled.
  2. Don't know him but I sure hope it works out.
  3. Peter beat me to it - lucky dog.
  4. Another vote for Live at Sweet Basil. Fine, fine LP. You are right - no volume two was ever released.
  5. Same here - glad there are others of us here.
  6. Wow. RIP.
  7. That and Black Suite (Coursil) are hard to figure. I'm told that the America pressings were the originals, but as you say, I would suspect that Charly owns them now. P-Vine did a vinyl reissue of the Arthur Jones some years ago, though I'm not sure if they did a corresponding CD. It's a great record indeed.
  8. I used to have the discs with these interviews on them. Fairly interesting and good audio quality. The Simmons was curious because my print interview with him was also used as the liner notes, and there were definitely some contradictory answers.
  9. Forgot about that. I have the LPs and they're all quite fine.
  10. Interesting move. I'm sure he was able to find the right dudes to set them up with.
  11. Dang. Guess I'd better head over to the site and pick up a few things soon. He always has a nice selection of LPs, too.
  12. Or, to dip into single-disc releases from a couple of our board members' labels: Julius Hemphill's Dogon A.D. (International Phonograph) & Roscoe Mitchell's Before there was Sound (Nessa) and I think, in terms of musician-board members, Alexander Hawkins' fine sextet recordings are well worth listening to - accessible and avant-garde.
  13. Good deals and often very fine music but the presentation isn't all that great IMO.
  14. Take another look at that box, grasshopper... Oh, I know what you mean - I just call it that. Doh! Forgot about that one, for some strange reason. JLH did a great job with it.
  15. I would like that Mark Murphy on Saba but preferably in NM condition...
  16. There's a ton of stuff in Bill's archive. It's just a matter of getting some of it out in a way that does it "right." Sunny's music is strewn about on too many different labels and I've heard a fair amount of live stuff that was definitely on the "miss" side of things, so it would be a challenge to put together a comprehensive set documenting his work.
  17. For some time now, I've made it a point not to be associated with anything that involves intelligence. I guess it's telling that I was reading this stupid rant while listening to some very non-necrophiliac Julius Hemphill.
  18. Amen on the Cecil '88 box. That Juma Sultan Aboriginal Music Society box that Eremite just put out is a killer, too. Also: AEC Nessa box (all out as individuals now) Bill Dixon - Odyssey Braxton Mosaic Threadgill Mosaic FMP For Example & FMP In Retrospect
  19. Yeah, it's killin' alright. It's killin' me! 80's drum sound, cheesy synths, horrible bass... what the hell is there to like in this? Sounds like Mannheim Steamroller on acid. The jazz Rickroll?
  20. Okay, here's what I now know re: Odyssey and buying it: Let me know how that works out for y'all.
  21. I know Rob - good guy. Funny, hadn't seen that before - pretty well put.
  22. Oh, too bad. Those Kleinschuster records he's on are quite fine indeed.
  23. According to the internet, German instrument-maker and improviser Hans Reichel has died at age 62. I don't know his music well (other than a couple of early FMP LPs) but he is a fascinating character and he will certainly be missed. RIP. Edit: it's official.
  24. This is a great read.
