  1. There wasn't a Vol. 2 released as far as I can tell.
  2. Coincidently I had both of these lps out recently. My copy of Ekaya has a different colored cover (brown) on the Ekapa label. Not directed at me but I like the Sweet Basil recording a lot. Wish I had vol.2 (assuming there was one).
  3. Oh wow. RIP.
  4. Van Gelder ? Sounds like you might have the much rarer Rajiv Gandhi stamp son.
  5. We should be typing Ch-rles M-ngus in any case, until we get that permission.
  6. You know, the first time I interviewed Bill Dixon, back in 2004 or so, I also spoke to some musicians that had formerly worked with him. To put it mildly, none of them thought he was an "easy" guy to work with, but they were all glad they had the experience. I suspect the same is true with the (arguably more eccentric) Beefheart.
  7. Robert Wyatt - Old Rottenhat - (Rough Trade)
  8. Do you dig that "Live at Sweet Basil"? Seconded recommendation for that one. It's really nice.
  9. That was one I was thinking of - yeah, I remember liking it quite a bit.
  10. Ed Curran - Elysa - (Savoy)
  11. There was one on Sunnyside from around 2003/2004 that I remember liking, too. Probably let it go in the great pre-moving CD clear-out of 2005. He played in lots of good settings, from St. Louis onward.
  12. This is great news, Allen. In a related vein, Bill Dixon was on the Vermont Arts Council (or something like that) board at one point. However, the state of Vermont never recognized him for his work, and the state arts grants he applied for were always turned down. So there you go.
  13. Juergen Gleue - Phantom Payn Daze - (De Stijl)
  14. News just in and confirmed here. Damn. I don't know what to say - RIP.
  15. Joe Morris - Sensor - (No Business)
  16. I like the Abbott and Costello bit.
  17. Lydon was at the time actually quite into prog (especially of the German variety), though McLaren wasn't. His later band PiL is quite far from UK punk - I'd encourage you to check out "Metal Box" if you ever have the urge.
  18. I don't have that one, but I like the singing on Electric City.
  19. His whoops and hollers are part of the bag for me. I dig it.
  20. Will have to write him and nab a copy. He's a fantastic musician.
  21. Yeah, I know - and yet it doesn't seem THAT odd. Allen, you've paired yourself with a pretty diverse range of people. Murray and Hicks doesn't seem at all odd to me... after all, Hicks worked with Pharoah, Simmons, McBee, lots of heavyweights.
  22. Happy Birthday, Jim! By the way, Rod, where did you find that gif?
  23. Here is my top ten: Ni Kantu Or, if you hate clicking things - 1. Joshua Abrams – Natural Information (Eremite) 2. Circulasione Totale Orchestra – Bandwidth (Rune Grammofon) 3. Bill Dixon/Aaron Siegel/Ben Hall – Weight/Counterweight (Broken Research) 4. Grex – Live at Home (SUA) 5. Mary Halvorson Quintet – Saturn Sings (Firehouse12) 6. Stephen Haynes – Parrhesia (Engine Studios) 7. No Mor Musik – No Mor Musik (ugExplode) 8. Cecil Taylor/Tony Oxley – Ailanthus/Altissima (bilateral dimensions of two root songs) (Triple Point) 9. David S. Ware – Saturnian (Aum Fidelity) 10. Katherine Young – Further Secret Origins (Porter)
  24. Funny; at about the time you posted this, I was reaching for the same record but ultimately pulled out New Ideas (on a NJ original) instead. Now: Harris Eisenstadt - Woodblock Prints - (No Business)
