  1. yeah, yank the Jazzland and Melodisc titles out and you'd have a slimmer box. If it didn't have the Indo-Jazz stuff you might be able to fit it all onto a Select; those other recs aren't that lengthy.
  2. Looks like they'll be putting out a 2LP of Ware's Onecept (CD on Aum last year), which I thought was good too.
  3. Wow - great idea. I'd most certainly buy it.
  4. Yeah, it's a good one - have enjoyed this on wax for years. Lots of diverse stuff in the BAG bag - I'm quite partial to Children of the Sun (Ajule rules) and the Solidarity Unit LP.
  5. Edit/bump because I found another copy of the new Perry Robinson trio date.
  6. Just a couple of things kicking around on offer here: Cecil Taylor & Tony Oxley - Leaf Palm Hand - (Jazzwerkstatt) reissue of FMP classic with obi, open but unplayed $12 Chris Dahlgren & Lexicon - Mystic Maze (Jazzwerkstatt) weird spoken/intoned Bartok project, w/ C Weidner, G Ullmann, A Anissegos, E Schaefer $6 Perry Robinson/Ed Schuller/Ernst Bier - A to Z - (Jazzwerkstatt) cl/b/d trio, very strong - sealed $10 Shipping is free in the US. Discount available if you buy more than one.
  7. Ah, a breath of fresh air. Nice!
  8. Yes indeed. I think he's doing a good thing. I also think the project could be done differently (understanding as I do the amount of archival material available through the estate, which would be accessible), but it would also take longer and add more cost - which, in the era of declining CD sales, is a valid concern.
  9. Those are really nice copies, though...
  10. Sorry to hear this. Nice man and a great musician.
  11. It's a complex situation from the Dixon side of things, but RCA/BMG did license the masters to International Phonographic. As I understand it, RCA/BMG also notably refused to sell Dixon the masters, or lease them back to him directly, in the not-too-distant past. Maybe this is not uncommon - I don't know.
  12. Not according to Wikipedia; I know he's no longer playing and his health has been spotty in recent years, but as far as I know he's still alive. Far out guy to interview, he was.
  13. Steve Marcus - The Green Line - (Victor Japan orig) w/ Sharrock, Vitous and Humair
  14. I second Chuck's emotion. Good music, atrocious product.
  15. The thing is, a fair amount of the musicians still with us and playing aren't all that interested in talking about the "old days." Holland is a particular example... ONLY wanted to talk about his new records and pretty much had no interest in talking about the '70s or the '60s.
  16. You do know he died this year, right? Tintweiss is still alive, yes. This thread makes me happy - serves as a reminder how many great musicians are still with us. Praskin was like 16 when he made that record, too!
  17. Our fellow board member "caravan" shared with me some fantastic photos of the Dutch scene in the '60s and '70s, of which he was a part. Not sure if he wants his identity public beyond what I'm telling you.
  18. Ah nice - didn't know Patillo was still around. If you want to get into people who are still alive but not playing, there are quite a bunch.
  19. Europe & America: Muhammad Ali Barry Altschul Karl Berger Bobby Bradford Dave Burrell Joe Chambers Marty Cook (I think) Jerome Cooper Jacques Coursil Pierre Favre Bobby Few Alvin Fielder Rolf & Joachim Kuhn Marc Levin Bennie Maupin Barre Phillips Michel Portal Cleve Pozar Julian Priester Manfred Schoof Alex v. Schlippenbach Irene Schweizer Alan Skidmore John Surman Francois Tusques Bert Wilson
  20. He disowned it. Jason Weiss is doing an oral history of ESP, so I hear. Brackeen is alive but has a lot of "problems," so he might not be easy to reach or talk to. He's in LA.
  21. Fantastic LP, long on my wants list...
  22. Sorry to hear this - wish I'd been East with a chance to visit the shop. Good luck with your post-shop-owning life.
  23. Looking forward to hearing this one.
  24. Classic, and more music than is on the LP.
