  1. How you have a collection that big without reams of Glenn Miller bootlegs, etc., is beyond me. Maybe a lot of duplicates?
  2. Hammered copy of Shades of Blue goes for over $1,000!
  3. Yeah, doesn't mean he didn't regret it for whatever reason later on. I still think the duo with Han Bennink is one of the most killing things I've ever heard.
  4. Henry Grimes was good, that's about all I can say. There were better, there were worse, but he was there and helped to make those recordings happen. I can't vouch for the present work because for the most part, I don't listen to it. Saw him on a couple of gigs in the recent past and they didn't gel for a number of reasons.
  5. Mine just arrived. Can't wait to crack into 'em and do some excavation. It's been a while since I've listened to the Old/Quartet sessions - they're awesome, though, and the photos included here are great.
  6. Phantom Payn Daze - Phantom Payn Daze - (De Stijl)
  7. Can't answer your question because I have it on a booted LP from sometime in the last decade (which seems slightly murky), but I do want to chime in that it's an excellent session.
  8. Yeah, that is a good record too. I was impressed. Got my wires crossed a little on "Papers," though I was close. From Dixonia, p 127-128:
  9. For a warm, sunny afternoon in Austin: Archie Shepp - Attica Blues Archie Shepp - Mama Too Tight Archie Shepp - The Magic of Ju-Ju all original stereo Impulses.
  10. The Ronnie Ross was out as a Japanese re-press a few years ago.
  11. I hadn't realized it was on CD. Good date; hope someone offers you one. Bill Dixon's composition "Papers" is pretty interesting, and if I recall correctly it was the only work that he actually choreographed (for dance) himself, designed costumes for, etc. I want to say its 1960s NY performance included Coursil, Ric Colbeck and Joel Freedman but I don't have my notes handy. The quartet reading is really nice, at any rate.
  12. So we're all set, then, and ready to roll?
  13. Shit! I was corresponding with him for a minute; seemed like a nice guy and definitely a great player. RIP.
  14. Wonder whether sending them a wants list of LPs would get a response...
  15. Hoping that Hum Dono makes it out as an LP reissue or Vocalion/Dutton Labs CD, BGO, anything...
  16. Last really great exh. I saw was in November at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis - three levels (I hesitate to call them floors) dedicated to the work of Yves Klein. I've always liked Klein a lot - the Restany book from, I think, the late '60s, is fabulous - but one usually gets to see only one or two Kleins in a gallery. This was a broad, detailed overview, absolutely stunning and well-hung. An odd character, for sure, but definitely not a charlatan and the colors/forms are absolutely mind-melting.
  17. I am mostly familiar with only one "side" of this situation, and can't really detail things from Horwich's perspective (maybe he'll pipe in), so if you want to know what I understand vis-a-vis the Dixon estate & this project, feel free to PM me.
  18. Clearly, they're made for each other...
  19. Yeah... I would like to see the Hum Dono part of such a package but its connection to the Indo-Jazz records might make it too much of a ringer, esp. if we - we being Mosaic's A&R - but a select w/ the early 60s quintet sides makes the most sense, especially if it were the material licensed from EMI.
  20. Nice array!
  21. Free Form was issued as a UK Jazzland, I know that much.
  22. that Dahlgren might make its way into the Pay-It-Forward thread, I can just feel it...
  23. Yeah, I have the Transatlantic of that one - fantastic record!
