  1. I think it was mostly stuff he didn't want that he sold to a VT shop owner some time ago, duplicates and so forth. Let's just say he wasn't a huge fan of all the people represented in this auction.
  2. Since I spent Saturday hanging out with my ex girlfriend [why??], this is perfect.
  3. With popsike, don't just use the highest-ending result to price your auctions - do some research. Especially since you're a new seller, those outlier-high prices are not something you'll likely get for, say, a copy of Ayler's Bells (even if it is a first edition). Set your reserve just a bit lower and you might be surprised at what you get. Considering what you have, I'd be surprised if some of the rarer items go for "chump change" - they're good records and hard to find in nice condition, so let the bidders do the talking.
  4. Nope, not Gene Ammons... but you are not far off! The rest of the band is European.
  5. So the only two that have been gotten so far are tracks number one and eight. #1 is Jesse Stacken (pno) and Kirk Knuffke (tpt) from the album Mockingbird, released on Steeplechase Records last year. #8 is Odean Pope's tune "Prince Lasha" and it appears on Ebioto (Knitting Factory, 1999), with Tyrone Brown and Craig McIver on drums. Thirteen tracks left; should I be giving away more hints?
  6. Often wondered about that one. Big fan of both Stanko and Gonzalez but ignorant of Faruq Z. Bey It's a very nice "modal" melodic/free record. Nothing that will shatter your brain but then again, that's not Gonzalez' usual m.o.
  7. That's it, yeah. Maybe I could have picked a better tune from the disc, which I like a lot as a whole, but it seemed like a good ease-in introduction to the BFT. Knuffke's a strong player; maybe he isn't "there" yet, but he's someone I'm keeping an eye on.
  8. Dennis Gonzalez/Faruq Z. Bey - Hymn for Tomasz Stanko - (Qbico)
  9. Jeez Bev, I'm totally confused by your new handle!
  10. I see it on eBay from time to time. Thanks for reposting that material as well.
  11. I would love to get my hands on a copy! Ambrose Jackson is on that one? Huh.
  12. #1 - not Europeans. #9 - not Ware or McPhee, it's someone a bit less well-known but of a similar generation. Glad you dig. #10 - not Dixon though I think he would have approved. #12 - European, most definitely.
  13. Yes, it is Odean and the tune is "Prince Lasha." You and Thom are on it. Yes, it's from quite a great little record and I would highly recommend it to you.
  14. I've seen the CD; yeah, it's a good record. Hell, I even like Vista.
  15. Yeah, Rapidshare never works for me, so there you go...
  16. Yeah, it sounds especially nice on the German pressing - I had the US pressing for years, which didn't sound nearly as nice. Beautiful music, naturally.
  17. They're linked on the first page of this discussion, towards the bottom.
  18. Yeah, an interesting side. Jaap Schoonhoven brings it.
  19. There is one familiar name on #15, but it isn't Ra. Edit to add that it is the drummer's date and the drummer (who is not well-known) played a cocktail-style kit, standing up.
  20. Thanks for the props; I'm glad you and others are digging it. Sorry about those bass solos - I agree that a couple of them just aren't getting it. 4: AACM is on the right track, though this is quite obscure. It is a fantastic little album, though. 10: Not Lester. 14: Yes, right time period and as far as I know, an electric tenor. 15: Not Ra. I put this on here because I wanted people to hear it, not necessarily because anyone would guess (though you might be surprised when you find out the answer). It's a very special item to me and I digitized it some years ago for that reason.
  21. Miles a "dedicated and talented [visual] artist?" Puh-leeze.
  22. It's really odd to see Fennesz on ECM.
  23. I'd be curious to know what others think of George Lewis. I have a few of his recordings that I like a lot, though I don't think I know enough about earlier forms of jazz (or heard enough of his work) to really put him in any sort of "favorites list."
  24. Funkadelic - Maggot Brain - (Bellaphon German issue)
