  1. Oh damn - so sorry to hear this. What an amazing, amazing player. RIP.
  2. Thanks for the enthusiasm, y'all - it will not go unheeded! 79 = 77 I guess...
  3. OK y'all, here it goes. My first attempt at a BFT. I will be hosting the files for downloading and will let you know more information once they are actually up, providing a link and so forth. If you can't download, that won't bar you from participating, and physical copies can be mailed out if need be. Here is the thing: I will be away from 7/29 to 8/3 and so in the interests of sanity, the August BFT will be available after I get back. That dovetails with the beginning of August and will allow y'all to let Bill Barton's deep collection and knowledge sink in a little more. I will try to appeal to all sensibilities, for sure, but any of you who know me know that there might be some free jazz / creative improvisation to deal with. If that's something you're really not into - well, I'm just warning you. Thoughts on conduction / advice are welcome, as always! Anyway, carry on... and thanks in advance.
  4. Loved that one from the first spin.
  5. Good luck with all you do, and thank you for everything you've done!
  6. You are young and have long lives ahead of you. Keep doing what you do. If your hearts and spirits are in the right place, you will make good music. What's clear from the tracks you've posted is that you play well together, and what a start that is. The rest will come in time, with practice and dedication. Good luck and welcome!
  7. Ach, just when I'm strapped...
  8. Contador has issued an apology to Schleck for his actions, while at the same time the consensus seems to be moving on from the incident. Good sportsmanship from all on this front, and Lance also turned in a fine stage today. This race has been rather exciting - something which was missing over the last decade.
  9. In the past, the rider in the yellow jersey (especially when he's clearly holding onto it) was not to be taken advantage of in the event of a crash or mechanical. If he blew up, that was another story. I think it shows bad sportsmanship on Contador's part to attack while Schleck was having a mechanical (not really the rider's fault - that's what mechanics are for). I have not watched today, but the 8 second deficit could be made up in the Pyrenees. If it were time trials, I wouldn't be so sure - don't think Schleck has it in the TTs.
  10. Yeah, personnel is correct after listening. It does not seem like all three drummers are on every track. I hear lots of Ali and Moore.
  11. Indeed a fine one! Haven't spun it in a while though...
  12. I am hoping to catch a flight into NYC to be a part of this. Please spread the word and I hope that some of you can attend.
  13. Customers who bought this also bought Darkthrone. Shawn???
  14. Also saxophonist Frank Wright (1935). Belated happy birthday to this one of a kind musician.
  15. Clement Greenberg, the art critic and writer, has an interesting essay on Jewishness and self-criticism, which he believes enters into the ideal of high achievement in arts, sciences and letters for Jewish men.
  16. Jon Eardley - From Hollywood to New York - (OJC) Compilation of Prestige/NJ ten-inches; Eardley's tone cuts like a knife.
  17. Time for a miracle.
  18. Steel is real, Cervelo be damned.
  19. Ronnie Mathews - Doin' the Thang - (Prestige, silver/black label) Found in a shop yesterday for $10, and was unfamiliar with it. Really nice session.
  20. That's trollish... Looking forward to your next Paris-Brest-Paris, P.L.M.
  21. You're right - this has been a very exciting tour and I've been following, as best I can, from the US. Cadel Evans has long been a favorite of mine (even in his mountain biking days) and it was sad to see him blow up and wreck his elbow. Although he wasn't a match for Contador and Schleck, it would have been nice to see him hold onto the yellow for a few more stages.
  22. I wasn't all that into his more recent ECMs; haven't heard the stuff he's put out on his label yet. As for avant-garde cred, don't forget that he was also in the Spontaneous Music Ensemble and worked/recorded with Lol Coxhill. As to the issue of middle-of-the-road, it's pretty endemic in a music where polemics aren't really an issue any more. I find a fair amount of contemporary, vaguely inside/outside stuff to be very milquetoast, as well as some of the "free" music.
  23. Maybe this will make you feel better.
  24. I really like that one a lot. Got a NJ mono of it for $5 maybe about a decade ago.
