  1. Yeah, I totally dig the set with Morris immensely. Will have to get Old Dogs as well.
  2. Gruppe Icky Rats - Free Rock - (Coat-Tail)
  3. What about a mud-encrusted copy of Blackjack, as seen once for about $2.99 at Dusty Groove?
  4. I just keep buying / acquiring / listening / hearing as much as my pocketbook and time will allow, and hope that one day I'll have a fraction of an understanding about what some of these great artists (like/not like being beyond me sometimes) have been up to.
  5. The most enticing things to me on this list are the Ammons/Lewis, Bechet, and Cole box. I guess that shows how much my tastes have changed since joining this board.
  6. As soon as I have a little more dough I will contribute.
  7. Me too. And I had no idea Gould was an Alan Silva fan.
  8. You could work with a dealer on consignment and get more money that way. There are good record stores in Houston as well as in Austin if you choose to go that route, and an honest one will certainly be of more help to you and get you more for your items than you might be able to alone.
  9. A lot of great music happened in that "void," for sure (and I'm not referring completely to the BYG/expatriate axis). Would the AACM or the lofts have become what they are/were if Coltrane were around? Probably not.
  10. Don't think there is such a thing as a Doug/Jean Carn album not on Black Jazz. Maybe a Jean Carn solo album. But it sounds like Doug and Jean Carn, Doug's musical/spiritual approach. "The Freedom Sounds" is on any early Jazz Crusaders best of. It and their "Young Rabbits" from the same period (early 60's) are classic. There is also a Doug Carn on Savoy - his first as a leader, IIRC. Very hard to find.
  11. Not an ESP - Lasha had the tapes. Just an aside.
  12. The prices aren't too high in my opinion, but that's not the point here I guess. I also don't think that bitching about somebody's prices is a big deal - who cares? Quoting the PM might have been bad form but Hans is a moderator, so...
  13. This would have been my only reference point. Pekar is also a solid critic. This is great but is there a large print edition? I can't see all the detail because of how they've uploaded the images.
  14. Thanks for posting that.
  15. 1952 Monk sides on BN, as well as material issued on The Modern Jazz Giants.
  16. Really interesting question. I hope more people chime in. And welcome to the board, Tom Cat.
  17. Well, this is a 1969 LP set. But yeah, they are apparently still in business.
  18. Ben owns copies the masters to the Tony Oxley RCA-Victor LP, Ichnos. I have heard that he plans to do a deluxe vinyl reissue of that as well. Hopefully the Cecil piece comes out - I have a number earmarked and won't have to pay until it's actually shipped. Wonder when that will be?
