  1. As for Starker, I only have the Kodaly solo cello. Fantastic, though. Willing to bet he does a number on the Bach solos, too...
  2. Doubt it. LPs are collectible independently of their CD-reissue status. Ra's got serious stock, as do Tina Brooks, Hank Mobley, Mike Westbrook and everybody else...
  3. You know, Lion did approach Spaulding to do one, but apparently they wanted something a little more boogaloo-oriented, which wasn't so much what Spaulding wanted to do for his own date. Food for thought.
  4. In my days of racing, I didn't listen to anything before a TT. But that was pre-iPod. So, if I get back into it, these might be good suggestions...
  5. Yeah, that's ridiculously good sound. Also The Cry.
  6. That was a blockbuster of a post...
  7. Maybe... I really couldn't say. Might be interesting to get a picture of how the AACM's goals, etc. changed as many of its participants relocated to New York. There will ALWAYS be screamers, won't there?
  8. And your excellent publications. Happy Birthday!
  9. Jesus...
  10. I look forward to hearing exactly who "Chewy's Pal" is...
  11. I was actually wondering myself whether it had anything to do with such a scenario, but didn't have the discographical chops to back it up.
  12. I never cared much for her, either, or her art-star beau, Matthew Barney. But hey, what do I know about music, art, or even West Coast Jazz?!?!
  13. I was trying to stick mostly to early '70s stuff. That's really where the quote was coming from, as I understand it. The Caligs are amazing. I second that recommendation!
  14. Spending a lot of time with Grow Fins lately. I always "liked" his music, though whether I fully appreciated it... I don't know. Now, I feel closer to "getting" it and have really enjoyed the last few spins of that boxed set.
  15. You'll have to let us know how those Bass Communion records are.
  16. Is European jazz West Coast or East Coast?
  17. That's what I've got most of these on... Have Jubilee pressings of the others.
  18. Evidently, yup. You need Message to our Ancestors. That be the Big Black/Black Harold LP.
  19. Rather irritated that I can't have both a hat and a beard...
  20. If somebody can find me tapes of the McLaughlin/Van Hove/Bennink/Bennink group of ca. 1968, I'd be much obliged...
  21. Regardless of the Cuscuna quote, the '70s were a really fertile time for the music. Some of us who were there could probably tell some stories - and I'm not just talking the loft jazz scene, etc., but also considering the Europeans and the expats. From a historical perspective, it was a crucial period for this music.
  22. Two of the better sides Muse put out, imo.
