  1. Yeah, I had Musics and did not keep it. Yawn...
  2. I'm curious about the "trainwreck," though I bet it's pretty bad. Tyrone sounds good in looser contexts; in fact, I wish the trio track from Natural Essence had its vibe spread across the whole date. That was more what I was looking for upon buying the LP in the first place. I was giving Brilliant Circles a spin earlier this evening, and that is one hell of a record - he is fantastic on it.
  3. Noah Howard - The Black Ark - (UK Polydor orig)
  4. For keeps, evidently...
  5. Horace Tapscott - Flight 17 - (Nimbus) Great 1978 session with the Pan-African People's Arkestra...
  6. Pulled it off the shelf. Better than I remember it, but... it feels a lot like a lot of other sessions from this period of Blue Note. No Schizophrenia this date, but "Soul Dance" is a good tune.
  7. I am partial to "Mapa," myself. Love this record.
  8. Stanley Cowell - Brilliant Circles - (UK Polydor orig) Now: Tyrone Washington - Natural Essence - (BN Liberty orig)
  9. Umm... because it's not that good? (TRAVESTY!!!) Seriously, I had high hopes for that LP, and it just never delivered. Still in the shelves, but...
  10. I feel like you just have to look at the personnel and know exactly what kind of noodling is going to take place. Yeah, I know what I'm getting into every time I pick up a Frank Wright record, but at least it'll have some oomph behind it. Noodling can have oomph, too, but...
  11. In all seriousness, a friend of mine recently asked me to make him a comp of jazz, including "accessible" and "out" stuff. Knowing full well that my tastes lean on the free stuff, and European free jazz especially, I'm still trying to figure out what to put together for him.
  12. Salad, sun-dried or on the vine? Chewy better toss that salad before she splits!
  13. The guy who did the Oktav reissue of that Sahib Shihab also has a copy of the Brooks. That was the first I'd heard of such a thing existing.
  14. So the Classic titles have a deep groove, or did he cop those images from somewhere else?
  15. I remember having a "Full-Metal Militia Drink-off" at 19 or so, ingesting a fair amount of Camo. It did what it had to do... Haven't listened to the Ornette LP in question in quite some time, but it's a wonderful disc, for the reasons mentioned here. Denardo's playing had improved by the time of the Impulse! dates, though.
  16. I think that, at that time, Max had - shall we say - a problem?
  17. I thought they were a miniature set of vibes, but I am not completely sure. The Gift is a mofo.
  18. It's very different from the ESP - much more organized and better playing by Marzette. It's always expensive, though seems to show up a fair amount on eBay. Still don't own one, but have heard it a couple of times. There are certainly more affecting LPs out there - not to poo-poo it, just sayin'.
  19. I've got a burn from the master of this (she's my friend's wife), and really dig it, moreso than the first one. Be curious to know what others think. I have to give it a few more listens, but I thought it's more live and spontaneous than the first one. I really dig it too. AAJ? I've met her a few times, but haven't talked to her in years. Great player! Yeah, her husband Andrey and I go way back, and she's a wonderful lady - not to mention a fantastic player.
  20. Yeah, that's why I do eBay - nobody asks any questions!
  21. and with "HANDMADE PAINTING COVER IN VG+" You have to remember that funk/spiritual-jazz collectors don't care AT ALL about condition. I know some of them, and I've passed on wasted shit that they snap up and are fired on!
  22. It NEVER used to go for that much. Absurd!
  23. I've got a burn from the master of this (she's my friend's wife), and really dig it, moreso than the first one. Be curious to know what others think.
  24. Richard Grossman Trio - Even Your Ears - (Hatology) w/ Ken Filiano, Alex Cline. Very nice!
