  1. Archie Shepp - Three For a Quarter, One For a Dime - (Impulse orig)
  2. I live just a few blocks from there, but have never eaten there. So 's good?
  3. Yes, he took a wonderful shot indeed. Just talked to Archie the other day and he seems very well!
  4. There's got to be something Rolf Kuhn did in this vein. Admittedly, I take my Kuhn Brothers recordings with a more acoustic madness vibe, but...
  5. The last one with that band was solid, well-played music, though it didn't light any fires for me. Good, though.
  6. Happy birthday and thanks for the music!
  7. Most Get Backs are needle drops, as I can tell you they did not have access to the tapes in ESP's case.
  8. Sonny Simmons - Music from the Spheres - (ESP orig) w/ Barbara Donald, Jim Zitro, Bert Wilson, Mike Cohen and Juney Booth...
  9. Original vinyl. Mexican Aylers? Curious...
  10. They sound fine. I have Bells/Prophecy and Slugs' Saloon in this format; used to have the new Spiritual Unity but gave it to a friend. Never had the mini-LP Get Back editions, so I don't know about those. I have nice copies of all the original ESP Aylers, so didn't feel the need for digital - however, my experiences with receiving copies has been positive. The Slugs' dates were originally on Base and, in addition to the low-fi sound, were pressed horribly. The new 2CD set is a marked improvement and has a great cover shot, to boot.
  11. Test - Ahead - (Now Jazz Ramwong) actually better than I remembered it...
  12. Indeed, Happy Birthday! Hope to someday hit the store...
  13. I'd get the ESP-Disk jewel case versions that have been reissued by the label itself. The boxed set is, according to Bernard, completely pillaged and unauthorized. The Calibre issues sound fine, but I'd rather go to the label itself to make sure estate royalties are being paid.
  14. Alice Coltrane - Huntington Ashram Monastery - (Impulse orig) w/ Rashied Ali and everybody's favorite, Ron Carter... excellent LP though.
  15. Any of our members in the Berlin area know of anything? My Berlin experiences were limited to Podewil and so forth, for FMP-related insanity, but would like to know what is recommended for weekly/nightly gigs.
  16. Just James Taylor's... Fave recent David ("Wendys") Thomas quote: "a punk is what they call you in jail." Yeah, understood re: 3-Way Tie. I got on the bus long after the passing of the band. Mudhoney: Skipped their "Americana" for the most part, tho the collab with Jimmie Dale Gilmore was actually solid.
  17. Not even at gunpoint. Hey, that's "my" axe... All the best, in any event.
  18. The only Cedar as a leader I have is the aptly titled Cedar! on Prestige. Recall it being solid, tho been a while since it got the needle. Amen on the Magic Triangle material, good stuff.
  19. The thing I don't understand is why y'all are getting freaked out if someone's having a little fun with your taste in country-fried AOR rock. My tastes in music - which run the gamut - seem to spark amusement coupled with ire from most people, and I really have no interest in defending what I like/don't like. If someone wants to lay deep slag on Mudhoney, Arthur Doyle, or Euro-racket, hey, I'll be amused to see what they come up with!
  20. Dudes... y'all need to take it day by day!
  21. Yeah, 30 is about the time for those sorts of feelings. Sometimes I miss being 22, but mostly I don't.
  22. I tend to like "half-wipe" myself. That's what I always strive for...
  23. The Braxton quote is nice, didn't see that earlier...
