  1. Mmmm, according to the auction description it's an "original Dutch pressing", while the label on the picture clearly mentions "Made in Denmark"... I have that album with the same Folkways-style jacket. And Made in Denmark pressing! This was the original issue. Yeah, the "Dutch" was obviously a goof - it appears to be white-on-black, rather than the white-on-white that I've seen elsewhere. I have the Transatlantic, and have never held the Debut in my hands. I emailed the seller, and they corrected the misinformation...
  2. Right-o... I'd also mention: Lasha/Simmons Shepp/Tchicai Lacy/Potts Wright/Howard
  3. Damn. That dude was hip! RIP.

  5. We will also enjoy in Austin!
  6. Yeah, but I'm also a sucker for correspondence and clippings...
  7. I'd forgotten about these. I remember them being "pretty good."
  8. A jazz archivist's (and I mean literally, archivist) wet dream: Bley Archive
  9. Considering the replies, and I support most of the above suggestions, you should! P.S. I also love a lesser known but excellent record Paul Bley Trio, on Radio Canada International label, recorded in Montral 1968, with Mario Pavone on bass and Barry Altschul on drums That one is hopelessly oop, I guess? I doubt it's on CD, though it was pressed at least twice on LP (there are two jackets for it). I'm not sure how those RCI things worked - if they were commercially distributed or not - but it's worth seeking out if you can do vinyl. My deepgroove wasn't cheap, though.
  10. Even with my 5-second snipes and pocketbook-crunching, I still can't get anything off of eBay. Totally 2002.
  11. Yeah, I dig that one too. Charlie Haden's first recording, IIRC.
  12. That's hardcore! I do my best... Still haven't found a replacement copy of Dry as a Bone, though.
  13. Don't think this'll go for TOO much, but the paste-on sleeve is kind of interesting. Brownie, have you seen a Folkways-style jacket for this one? Spirits on Debut
  14. You know, in my time with Pullen, it has been entirely as a pianist - say, with Giuseppi, Nommo or Mingus' Changes. I'll have to check some of these recommendations.
  15. Art Ensemble of Chicago - A Jackson In Your House (BYG Japan) Art Ensemble of Chicago - Message To Our Folks (BYG Japan) Sunny Murray - Hommage to Africa (BYG orig) New Phonic Art - Improvisations (Wergo)
  16. "Something Sweet, Something Tender" - Dolphy and Richard Davis sure had something special going on.
  17. Green River - Rehab Doll - (Sup Pop orig) Tuff as always!
  18. More unearthed material from the punk band Crime is up first.
  19. Jaki Byard - Freedom Together! - (Prestige blue label) with Richard Davis, Alan Dawson and on two tracks, Junior Parker. Definitely a grab-bag, but a decent record all-in-all.
  20. Ran Blake - Plays Solo Piano - (ESP red label orig, sadly no booklet) Good music for writing a paper... especially if I were to write it like Paul Haines! Edit to say: I remembered the version of "Stratusphunk" being weird, but not THIS weird!
  21. 30, big ass beard and a smattering of ECMs. Norman Connors is fine, though I doubt he could "push" with Jackie.
  22. She was married to bassist Mark Levinson, of the Paul Bley trio. They wrote a sex book together!
  23. I have the one on Calig, but not this one. I can imagine it's pretty good. The LP has been pretty expensive (for an ECM, anyway) when I've seen it.
