Per Henrik Wallin Trio - s/t - (Caprice) featuring Erik Dahlback (d) and Torbjorn Hultcrantz (b), a very fine breakneck runthrough of the piano-trio tradition (at least from bop to free) done by three of Sweden's finest improvisers (Wallin's RIP).

Never really "dug" the place, though I did see a few good gigs there when in NYC. Still, one less venue is one less venue...

Mats Gustafsson - Presents the Music of Norman Howard - (Anagram) This really is becoming a favorite of mine. Absolutely beautiful. Usual suspects Vandermark, Bishop, Haker-Flaten, Nilssen-Love and vibist Kjell Nordeson present stunning renditions of the unsung trumpeter's compositions.

I have the Durium also (and I'm a young fart, as you know!). It was issued in France on the Freebird label, in addition to the US Inner City pressing. Yes, I've heard there was more material from Don's Paris 5tet let out of the vaults, but I have not seen the discs myself.

Ended at about twice what I expected!

Why so high? I wouldn't be surprised if it hits 5Gs...

Ah yes, that was an interesting recording. First time I ever heard a kalimba. MG Yeah, I like that record. Funny, though, I was hoping the ideas from the title track would be more integrated into the rest of the (fine postbop) proceedings. Bennett Friedman is a strong tenor player, too. Now spinning: Theo Loevendie Consort - Chess! - (BIM/BASF orig) Great Dutch jazz w/ Hans Dulfer, William van Manen, Leo Cuypers and others.

Too $hort for my tastes. I also prefer later BJP. Not that I have any authority on either BJP or EVA.

Dewey Redman - Look for the Black Star - (Fontana JP, Marte Roling's cover) One can always use more Donald Garrett, but whatever happened to Jym "Puzzle Box" Young?

He's had xxix years actually. Not wishing to be picky. (mmvii-mcmlxxviii=xxix) I am what, XXX years old, and buying jazz for X years, and only <X opportunities when the vinyl crossed my hands. Now that I don't care about vinyl, I will take the opportunity!

This is one I still don't have. Don't know what stopped me before!

I'd like to get that Monterose/Flanagan duo record one of these days. Can't recall the title right now, and am not feeling like making enough keystrokes to look it up. But I suspect it's good...

Max Schubel - Son of Quashed Culch - (Opus One, with Barre Phillips!) Toshi Ichiyanagi / Maki Ishii - Music for Living Process / Cho-Etsu - (Edition RZ)

Don Cherry - Togetherness - (Durium orig) A classic, with Barbieri, Berger, Jenny-Clarke and Aldo Romano. Thankfully available in many forms, but it's always nice to spin the first!

Nikki Sudden & Rowland S. Howard - Kiss You Kidnapped Charabanc - (Creation orig) A friend once told me "this record makes me want to go and score a bag of heroin." That's an understatement.

I have the original FMP vinyl and have not found that one as impressive as the stuff with Mangelsdorff, or even Pica-Pica for that matter. Just my $0.02... carry on.

Various - American Primitive Vol. 1: Raw Prewar Gospel - (Revenant) With Charley Patton, Wm and Versey Smith, Blind Mamie Forehand, Bukka White and many others! My CD was so beat and scratched I went out and bought the vinyl today... I take better care of LPs.

I think it was a fluke. Just one bid-topper and one other goofball. None of the other bids were much higher than $100.
