Looks like I got the plan for the week. I am already excited! Let me know if anything else (jazz-wise) is happening in Toronto that week. Also, I would like to visit good used CD stores if it's in or near downtown.

Thanks for the info, guys. ADRIAN FARUGIA QUARTET at the Top 'O' the Senator and The Dave McMurdo Jazz Orchestra w/ special guest Phil Nimmons at Montreal Bistro appear to be playing while I am there. Should I go see either of them?

I would love to see Christian McBride some day. I kind of feel some connection with him as he and I share the birhtday (in same year). I guess I have to wait for the next opportunity... Django Fest sounds interesting, but I don't think I can drive that far during the meeting. Thanks for the nice calendar! -

I just saw this group at Indy Jazz Fest in July. So, I will pass this time. -
I will also be in Toronto between October 26 and 30. Are there any good jazz concerts while I am there? Good local jazz clubs I should check out?

I just saw Larry Coryell with Badi Assad and John Abercrombie (they have a new CD on Chesky) about a month ago at Montreal Jazz Festival. I saw many good shows while I was there, but his group was one of the best. All acoustic and some Brazilian flavor. I think I will see Larry Coryell again next month at Detroit Jazz Festival. I am looking forward to seeing him again.

I personally like his last album better than "Horizon Reassembled". But it is still a great CD. Particularly, the first tune "Lemoncello" is great. I hope he will tour around Midwest now that his new CD is out.

Do you buy music faster than you listen to it?
jazzmessenger replied to Bright Moments's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Yes. I have way too many unlistened CDs...more than 100 CDs just wainting for me to hear. -
I saw the Kenny Barron Quintet at Montreal Jazz Festival last week. Kenny Barron and Stefon Harris were simply phenomenal. But two young girls (flute and drums) sounded a bit too mechanical and boring. Regardless, it was a great show with very nice tunes. I will definitely pick up their new CD.

Thank you all for responding to my request!!! I don't know some of the songs recommened, but I will ask if my band would play.

Those are some nice songs to be included. I knew I can count on this board members. Keep on comin'!

I'm getting married this weekend and have tenor sax/bass duo for the ceremony and quartet or quintet (still looking for a second horn player) for the reception. I have accumulated a list of some songs I want to hear at this special event, but I would like to give more choices to the musicians. I am especially looking for songs that guests can dance to. Following are songs I picked so far. Are they appropriate for this kind of occasion? I know (to some extent) this depends on how these standards are played. Like Someone in Love I Should Care The Way You Look Tonight Feelin’ Good The Song is You It Could happen to You Come Rain or Come Shine Have You Met Miss. Jones? You're welcome, mgraham333.

I saw him last Fall. I think he is still playing somewhere. If I remember correctly, he is also on one of Grant Green's CD.

I was at Vintage Vinyl in St. Louis today and found quite a few OOP Conn. CDs (listed above). Amazingly, some of them are still sealed!!! I only picked up Johnny Griffin's "The Congregation" for a trade bait. The rest should still be there. FWIW, they also had a used TOCJ copy of "Jutta Hipp at the Hickory House" (don't remember which volume) for $10.99.

I saw him with many other young trumpet players who Marcus Belgrave gathered for Detroit Jazz Festival last year. It was unbelievable to see so many talented players, but to me, Maurice Brown was the best of the bunch. His playing was so fiery. Following are some of the photos I shot during that show: JazzReview.com Photo Gallery 1 JazzReview.com Photo Gallery 2

I belive that CD was released only in Japan-at least that's what it says on the slipcover for the CD. I bought it when I was still in Japan. Listening to that CD now reminds me of good old days in Japan. "Disintegration" on this CD is just great!!!

Rooster, I also like the music of THE CURE. I even saw their concert in Toronto in early 90's. But honestly, I haven't listened to their music for a long time. I am surprised to know that you like them.
