  1. I usually pick 7-10 CDs that I think are good mix of leaders. After I go through them, then I pick another 10.
  2. I heard this story a while back. IMO, the Japanese company didn't choose the store name after the bassist. I think it is an coincidence. There are a lot of Cecil McBee's out there, so why is he the only one suing?
  3. I didn't have as much free time as I expected while I was there (for a scientific meeting), but I managed to pick up a few CDs in Capitol Hill. I really loved the city. Great food and lots of nice stores. I would love to go back there soon.
  4. I have about 150 unplayed CDs and 3-4 unplayed Mosaic sets. I wish I had more time to listen to music...
  5. Alejandro, Thanks for the transportation info!!! I am looking forward to seeing Seattle tomorrow!
  6. BTW, does anyone here have two extra tickets to the Mariners game on Saturday night? I want to see my countryman Ichiro while I am in Seattle.
  7. Well, I am finally leaving for Seattle tomorrow. I am planning to visit these two stores (also Playback Music that Shawn recommended). Is there any public transportation to that area from downtown?
  8. About 1,500, of which 150 haven't been listened... I will listen to them before I die.
  9. If you like trio recordings, "When You Wish Upon A Star" (32 Jazz) by the Drummonds (Renee Rosnes, Ray Drummond and Billy Drummond) is a good place to start.
  10. This is not related to "Duets", but I just saw this on ebay: J.C.'s first recording? I want to hear this music, but don't have a turntable. Someone with a turntable may be interested in picking this up.
  11. I never bought directly from BN. Their discounted price is still high.
  12. I like them both. I generally enjoy his Columbia outputs than BN's.
  13. Classy! Thanks. I was honored to have such a legend at my wedding. I thought about asking him to play B-3, but my wife didn't let me...
  14. I got mine!!! Moving up for someone else on the board. Can anyone help him?
  15. I've been meaning to get some of his outputs on Criss Cross (new one included), but all I have is his Savant CD (Wes tribute). Criss Cross CDs are kind of expensive. He played piano at my wedding reception in June, so I should pay him back by buying his CDs.
  16. I feel a little better now. It seems like some people here had the same experience with the seller. I really wanted the Superblue CD (and a few others), but I guess I will wait for my next chance.
  17. How much does he want for his promo CDs? I made my offer and asked him to make an counter offer if my offer is not reasonable to him. But all he replied was "No thanks. I will not sell that cheap."
  18. I like John Hicks, too. I never heard of this CD before. I should look for it when I go home (Japan) this winter.
  19. Looks like I have many good places to visit in Seattle. I can't wait to go there. Less than two weeks!!!
  20. I talked with Bobby Watson after his performance at the Detroit Jazz Festival. He told me he will be touring with Horizon soon. I hope he will come to or near Indy.
  21. Oh yeah, it was one smokin' show. I wish you could have made it to the show. Joey DeFrancesco almost stole the show. He is just an exciting and fun player to watch and listen. Anyway, I think most tunes were from his Mac Avenue CD. The song I really liked sounded like Dexter Gordon's Cheesecake. It may have been the one. Does he play that tune often? I thought you might know. Didn't you tour with him before?
  22. Did anyone here see the Ron Blake quartet (at times quintet) at the Detroit Jazz Festival??? In my opinion, this group was one of the best at this year's festival. I thought the Louis Hayes quintet, James Carter quintet and Jon Faddis quartet gave a very strong performance, too. Anyway, I am tyring to remember the first tune Ron Blake played. I remember the melody. I have heard that song before, but can't remember the name. Can anyone help?
  23. Thanks for the information, Alejandro! I really love digging into used CD bins and finding some OOP CDs. I wish I could still do that in Indianapolis... I am lookiing forward to my trip to Seattle!
  24. From a human geneticist's view, I would say the answer is probably no. Although more studies are need for the definite answer, your love for jazz is likely due to an environment surrounding you.
